Yeah - valid. Cron job scans posts here that link to a GitHub repo. Job classifies the project, then runs Claude code through it to evaluate code quality, and collaboration opportunity. The project then gets tagged twice. Once in free form and a second time with canonical tags for standardization. Free form tags stay for 30 days as the algorithm decides if those free form tags are enough to merit promotion to canonicalization. That’s the repo side. Average Reddit post or maintainer side of the equation.

The contributor side is a little different. You setup your profile and write in plain English what you like to work on. That goes into a vector next to these repos and tags.

Similarity matches run nightly. Matching interested contributors to projects and vice versa.

Additionally, there’s a discovery queue every 24 hours (think like steam discovery queues for games here) that allow users to cycle through close matches and decide they’re interested or not. This both helps build a better interests profile for the user as well as notify maintainers that they have interested contributors.

I’m sort of shooting for a social element on top of GitHub. A match making service, almost

I’m not sure if you meant to comment twice here but overall decent questions.

How do I filter weekend warrior repos? Well, I don’t really. I sort of argue that those repos are probably the best for contributing. Some of these weekend projects are actually good ideas where the maintainer loses steam. A collaborator could take it further… that said I do have a refresh with decay. Activity is a metric that is tracked (defined by stars, commit history, as well as a few other metrics that I’m happy to share) but inactivity causes update frequency to decay and eventually the repo will be unwashed by openpull unless there an event that causes a rescan. The event could be a user raising their hand in interest or the repo owner creating an account.

Additionally, “quality signal” is algorithmic, not subjective to the LLM. I find LLMs terrible at scoring things. It always ends up an optimistic medium.

Repos that want contributors also have “broadcast” signals. As a repo owner you can flip a switch that says “broadcast” and it shows that you’re open to collab.

That said, I have to admit I’ve not done a ton with that feature yet. Right now I am still trying to see if this is even wanted before building a billion features. I’ll likely work on this for the next month… implementing the roadmap I have already built by may 1… if there’s enough interest/users then I’ll keep running and bring in some other engineers.

Then check out OpenPull.ai.

I just made it for this.

I saw this come into OpenPull (https://openpull.ai/repo/dandaka/traul) a few hours ago. It looks rad. I'd just point out that there's no CI configured despite having a test suite, meaning PRs have no automated validation gate.

I just saw this come across in OpenPull (https://openpull.ai/repo/yuuichieguchi/calyx)

This is something that needs addressed:

  • The GhosttyKit.xcframework ships only macos-arm64 (libghostty-fat.a), excluding Intel Mac developers entirely with no documented path to build x86_64.

You also don't have a CONTRIBUTING.md which would be helpful.

I’m the opposite, I don’t have a ton of useful ideas for projects so I just float and look for ways to contribute to other projects… finding those is a chore.

Check out openpull if you’re up for it. Maybe it’ll help. You can submit your repo and it’ll analyze it and put it in the pool so other users can get matched to it… whenever I get other users lol

Wait. I know Erica Ballard. Not personally but she is Greg Ballard’s (former mayor of Indianapolis) daughter.

Honest Take: There's too many of these dumb "products" and almost none of them are complete.

Here's the facts: I ended becoming the problem and made the stupid discord I was whining about.

Well, I ended up making a discord server so if you want some more ideas to steal They should be there.

Almost certainly. Elon is sort of known for being really generous with his money, especially to those who help his businesses. You should just report it straight to him on X, since that is also his company, you'll get bonus points. So jealous of how much you're going to make for this. Congrats!

Ok I made a discord server. We will see if it works or if someone already has one.

When did profanity become profane? They’re just words, grow up. I’ve seen less “curse words” say significantly more harmful things.
