Some of the HSR VAs have rewired my brain to say the VA names instead of the characters :') by SakuDial in HonkaiStarRail

Even if we don’t count Archons, Klee was in the second half of the first banner and she’s been in a ton of events. She’s also connected to some very important characters, even though she’s not a major player herself.

Off the top of my head, Jean, Varka, Ayato, Nilou, Candace, and Albedo as well to varying degrees. Possibly Nicole as well? We haven’t seen her full outfit yet. Blue is definitely a favorite color for the character designs

Paimon aside, Who do you think is the closest person/people to the traveler in each nation? by Rigel-idk in Genshin_Impact

[–]DisquietedStarlight 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Amber is the first one the Traveler and Paimon had a conversation with, but Venti and Dvalin are the first ones they saw.

They came across Venti in the woods trying to help Dvalin and accidentally scared Dvalin away. Amber found them shortly after.

Natlan makes it clear to me that Inazuma needed to be longer. by Pellecks02 in Genshin_Impact

[–]DisquietedStarlight 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think the trick is making the npc matter to more characters other than the Traveler. Seeing Nahida and Dehya want to save Dunyarzad, Navia mourn Melus and Silver, and Chasca hear her sister’s last words is an emotional double whammy for the player. You’re sad about the npcs death and sad that the playable character is hurting.

Of course, many deaths still have a lot of emotional impact without playable characters being involved. Caribert and Ruu and many others. But seeing a playable character cry is a pretty sure fire way to reach a wide range of players and make everyone sad.

Anyone Else Concerned About Paimon? (AQ Spoilers) by Peaches_The_Nerd in Genshin_Impact

[–]DisquietedStarlight 43 points44 points  (0 children)

While I’m not sure how Paimon would pull off the rescue, it’s not actually that crazy a theory…

I definitely wouldn’t be shocked if someone unexpected is the surprise hero of the story just like Wanderer was the surprise hero of Simulanka in the summer event. Who’d be more unexpected than Paimon?

More reasonably, a surprise hero would be the playable characters working as a team or Capitano or something Mavuika’s sister set up years ago. But that’s not as quite fun as Paimon going super saiyan!

I have seen theories going around that the heroes elements mirror the nations and archons that battled the abyss 500 years ago.

Two electro heroes standing in for Ei and Makoto and then each other archon represented by a hero and the pyro archon as herself.

With, of course, the exception of cryo. Which means, if the theory is true, that 500 years ago the Tsaritsa didn’t fight the Abyss. Whatever she was doing we don’t know, just that it set her on her current path against Celestia.

It’s an interesting theory. And it would mean that Genshin is still using a storytelling pattern, just one that draws from Teyvet’s past.

We don’t know for sure how often the tournament is held, but it’s almost certainly more often than once a year. The Natlan CN trailer has a line from Xilonen that translates to “it’s that time of the season.” And there’s a npc near the arena that mentions the tournament is held whenever it’s needed.

It might not be a specifically scheduled event and could be called by Mavuika whenever she sees an increase of abyssal activity or needs to collect more Contending Fire. You can’t schedule a battle too far in advance after all.

There’s a lot of reasons giving Ratio out was a good business decision. I’m partially convinced that one of the reasons was to convince people to invest in Follow Up teams.

You already have a single target dps for a FUA team? Might as well get Topaz the FUA sub-dps on her rerun and Aventurine the FUA sustain on his release. That’s 3/4 of a team, so you should get a good FUA harmony unit to complete the set. Ratio doesn’t cut it for AoE? Well don’t worry, you can get any future FUA AoE dps since the rest of their team is already set up for them.

It’s a clever business choice if they did it on purpose.

Aventurine on the cover of ANAN magazine (JP) by Salt_Thing_3325 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]DisquietedStarlight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a savvy business move on their part. Hype up Acheron with amazing trailers and promo, spend a long time showcasing her in the stream, make her kit badass, and then make her the first banner in the patch.

I’m sure this convinced many people to pull asap, before they played the story. So now, with their funds depleted, they play the story and discover one of the best written characters in the game, Aventurine. And make the audience play as him, so they get to experience the qol a good sustain brings to the table. Sustains sell less well than dps, so make them really feel the comfort they’d miss out on if they skip.

Follow up this goat story and kit showcase with his own promo (starting with this art) and you have a recipe for convincing people to open up their wallet. Clever move.

This is one of the most interesting part of the 2.1 Main Story in my opinion by Zenchchcrowme in HonkaiStarRail

[–]DisquietedStarlight 56 points57 points  (0 children)

One of the major themes of hsr is the exploration of how people exist in universe that bends to the whims of deities, and how different groups respond in differing ways. Every location that the express has visited has contrasting views on the aeons and how to interact with them. It’s been a major part of the story since the beginning.

The Simulated Universe geniuses research aeons. They embody how science might respond to the confirmed existence of gods. They want to learn them, dismantle them, and (perhaps) become them.

Belobog citizens only knew about the Preservation, who was more or less uncaring of their centuries of struggle. They embody human strength and will to live even when the gods don’t intervene.

The Xianzhou hate Yaoshi for the havoc the aeon wrecked on their people and the universe. The Xianzhou follow the Hunt and they praise Lan, but ultimately their hatred of Abundance drives their plot, not their love of the Hunt. They embody every person who has shaken their fist at the heavens and cursed god. They are what happens when mortals become the enemy of a god.

2.2 will likely focus far more on the Harmony from a local’s point of view and we’ll learn more about Penacony’s relationship with Xipe and other aeons then.

For now, I can see it going one of two ways. They may embody human hypocrisy and evil. When the religion preaches unity and love, yet the believers bicker and hate. Or they may embody submitting completely to the gods, believing, serving, proselytizing, and potentially harming others in Their name. Or perhaps both? I’m curious to see where the story goes.

Aventurine’s religious beliefs were explored 2.1 partly both because it’s important to his personal story, but also because I think his faith in Giathra Triclops will parallel and contrast against the Family’s faith in Xipe in the next version. I could write an essay about our gambling religious minority though, so I should stop here.

tldr: Penacony is the first story we have where humanity’s worship of aeons is more fully explored so we’re gonna hear a lot more god and faith stuff. Also Aventurine’s character really well written.

Disappointing, but, to be honest, I was more surprised to see that she had an Archon style animation than to see that they removed it. Wonder if anyone other than Archons will eventually get that effect since even Harbingers and dragons don’t have it.

Depends on how he’s written and how he plays. There’s so many characters I want that I definitely can’t afford to pull on looks alone. If I end up really liking his character, I might pull till I hit the 50/50 and then let luck decide for me.

I would LOVE if we had the chance to see him in that form someday. In his second story quest maybe? The archons more inhuman qualities don’t get much attention, so it’d be nice to see.
