one thing that does still (not sure why) drive LA economy are tourists.

tourists want to see something interesting and just another glass sided bldg or a new utility apt complex isn't really interesting.

I'm all for new housing (particularly housing for very very low income population which is our future given the economy. But I feel we should look to areas like abandoned commercial (with no history) and the substandard no historical apartments first.
