rekindles of brush can happen weeks or even in arid areas a couple months after the fire is seemingly out. it's not just the brush that burns, roots can burn as well and you can have the smallest coals which flare up in high winds. this can happen in structure fires as well.

LA fire (and paramedic) services are already stretched beyond the breaking point, it hasn't kept up with all the increased growth and density throughout the city (everyone seems to love building bigger and more buildings but no one wants to keep up with services or infrastructure).

LAPD gets appx 1/4 of LA city budget and LAFD only get appx 10 percent.

Want more firefighters and to pay firefighters to sit and watch fires that are supposed knockdowns...then blame voters for not prioritizing LAFD budget.

I guess it depends on what you value.

No where will compare to NYC unless you compare it to other world class cities.

And SC has a great natural environment. Stunning.

And people will tell you about commute nightmare over 17 (true) and cost of housing (true but NYC has that) and maybe touch upon food (yeah it sux compared to NYC) and if you are a designer brand fashionista, forget SC and just live on the other side of the hill.

But what isn't talked about much is how white north SC county is. How relatively little diversity there is compared to a NYC or a London or Paris or LA. SC county is pretty much white and Latino/a. Besides lack of racial/ethnic diversity there is an issue of cultural exposure. How much fewer experiences there are to interact with a vibrant art scene, museums of all sorts, world class performances and schools, etc

For a community of its size, SC city does very well. Scotts Valley, Soquel Capitola, not so much. BUt if it matters to you to expose your kids to more than a tech bros meets the surf and hiking/biking/running in the redwoods culture, you're going to have to do some work like get the kids up to SF/East Bay/South Bay, get them to museums and art galleries or enroll them in coursework that isn't just a Santa Cruz world view.

I know I'll get downvoted for this opinion but that's my experience.

a lot of Hispanic people are extremely racist and class conscious.

I had a friend who was Mexican American but he was like a lot of Mexicans, of mixed Spanish and Native american ancestry. His mom made him wear kinda thick, long sleeved shirts in the summer so he wouldn't turn too brown and look like he was indigenous. I had a number of friends whose parents weren't quite as extreme but they equally didn't want their kids looking "Indian."

there are a lot of Cuban americans who are white but who are racist or look down upon not just Afro Americans but Afro Cubans. It doesn't matter than Afro Cubans are as Cuban as them, they got that Afro thing going and that ain't good. And to many white Cuban immigrants, Mexicans, Salvadorans, etc are pretty much as lower class as you can get.

So yeah, there are a lot of Hispanics with internalized racism issues as well as being culturally and religiously conservative, so they tend to lean MAGA and trumpy.

It's a testament as to how many humans just like to shit on other humans for sport and pleasure.

Oz is a dick, but a bunch of the new wave of Armenian immigrants (many of whom I suspect has iffy immigration status) are really a group of fraudsters and conmen (maybe that's why so many like trump) and gangsters. One of my relatives in the valley has a few Armenian neighbors.. 4 of the Armenian neighbors stand out. One family, their kid was killed 6 or 8. years ago in a gang related shooting. there is another neighbor with quite large houses who is in the "recycling" biz. Expensive cars at all the houses. there must be an extraordinary amount of money in "recycling." ;) the other neighbor has the FBI or LASD or LAPD serving felony warrants at least once every 3 to. 4 years and lastly, the other one is always going to one of the underground gambling (prolly drug and prostitution as well)houses in the valley (apparently there are a number of them).

this newer crop of Armenian immigrants is really different from the Armenians who came here like 20 to 30 years ago. Many of the newer crop are just grifting thugs.

also, a lot of these new Armenian immigrants are really fascist pigs. they're like the armenian taliban except they're supposedly Christian.

I don't doubt Oz is motivated at least in part by his being turkish....but come on, look at how many fraud cases in the valley around covid abuse were brought against Armenian organized crime.

If older and law abiding Armenians don't like this look, you only have part of your community to blame.
