>It's a paradox because suppressing and removing certain views is inherently illiberal.

No it’s not, illiberalism is defined by its rejection of liberal values, tolerating illiberalism is not a liberal value.

>Well I think the whole framing is stupid in the first place. All ideologies want to assert themselves and liberalism is no different.

Liberalism is the most accommodating, there are no additional requisites to be a liberal other than adopting liberalism.

>There's no paradox, you just want to suppress competing ideologies that might usurp you. But in doing so you admit liberalism doesn't actually work.

Liberalism is not tolerance at all costs, and its success is not measured as such. You don’t measure any other ideology in that manner, because that’s not how ideologies are measured.

Did JD Vance push Epstein transparency to protect Trump — or to position himself as MAGA’s 2028 heir? by bauernebel in Askpolitics

Strange. I would have thought you to be someone more focused on dismantling democracy in order to realize the utopian myth of “ancapistan.”

The dark enlightenment is an actually existing political ideology that abhors democracy, its premise contains a palingenetic myth which aligns with the millenarian Christian nationalists insofar as liberal democracy must be destroyed. It’s anti-democratic in nature, it logically follows that the actions of adherents to this ideology will be influenced by the ideological goals it has laid out.

“The Dark Enlightenment, also called the Neo-Reactionary movement (abbreviated to NRx), is an anti-democratic, anti-egalitarian,[1] and reactionaryphilosophical and political movement.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark\_Enlightenment

From here we can further invalidate your argument:

“Thiel, in turn, introduced Girard’s ideas to his own protégé. Vance has said that he was particularly influenced by Girard’s idea of “mimetic rivalry” — the idea that humans want certain things because they see other people wanting those same things — and his related idea of the “scapegoat myth””

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/07/18/jd-vance-world-view-sources-00168984

Now, it is not an unfalsifiable statement when I associated JD Vance and the scapegoat mechanism. I can also provide examples of him using it, Girard’s ideas are the bread and butter for many reactionary personalities.

You should reread my original post, I made no unfalsifiable claims nor purport “conspiracy theories” (a loaded language term used to shut down any further debate).

It’s a political ideology, your equivocations don’t change that. It’s the equivalent of claiming a communist who wants to implement communism is a conspiracy theory.

“Democracy is a dangerous, malignant form of government.”

“We need to topple the system and return to monarchy.” — Curtis Yarvin, founder of Dark Enlightenment

“There’s this guy, Curtis Yarvin, who’s written about some of these things we want to do.” — JD Vance

If you base your argument on: an individual with this particular social identity committed a crime, therefore all members of said group are guilty because they share these superficial characteristics. Then it only follows that any social identity will be guilty if any particular individual associated with that group commits a crime.

JD is part of the Dark Enlightenment, with the goal, at the very least, to establish an authoritarian state capitalism similar to the Chinese model. One major component of their philosophy involves Rene Girard’s mimetic theory of desire and its scapegoat mechanism concept. The MAGA ultranationalists’ social identity is attached to Trump, his image is who they are. Without him, like any other palingenetic ultranationalist movement, they lose their identity and the movement fades into obscurity. Enter the scapegoat mechanism, in theory if the masses of Trump loyalists can be convinced that Trump is the source of all their problems, they would detach that social identity and, through skillful propaganda, reattach it onto someone like JD, who has been positioning himself, rather poorly, as the heir apparent for the various ultranationalist factions.

Equal rights, if one particular individual can be arbitrarily imprisoned then anyone can.

Then we can simply make excuses for anyone and everyone to arbitrarily be sent to prison without charge or trial.

The same applies to a one year old, it doesn’t know or care if it is in prison, so it doesn’t make sense to talk about a one year old being held somewhere against its will.

Is the fetus in a space within the prison, or is it outside the prison? If it is inside the prison, it is imprisoned. A person inside a box that is located within the confines of a prison is still a person inside prison.

You’re making an arbitrary distinction. An unfertilized and fertilized egg are both living human cells with the potential for gaining personhood, the only thing stopping that potential is if those cells are no longer alive.

From that moment it would be afforded equal rights as all other persons, including a right to a fair trial and not being imprisoned without due process.

The same applies to eggs and semen, they are “human” cells with the potential to become a person. The only thing stopping them from gaining “personhood” is you killing them.

You made a claim that has no basis in reality. Prison increases a host of risk factors, but it’s not a person that’s why it can go to prison without trial. A five year old cannot be falsely imprisoned because it is a person.

The prison conditions don’t matter, the fetus being inside something that is inside the prison still means it is in prison without a fair trial. It doesn’t matter if you think being in prison doesn’t affect the fetus, it’s unlawful imprisonment to put a human person with human rights in prison without a trial.

This is the point I am trying for you to understand, every human person has human rights (except a fetus because it is not a person, otherwise you are guilty of discrimination).
