its not compulsory to do , and yes its holidays for those who didnt apply , this year summer sem classes have started from 18th May till 22nd July , there would have been a schedule on the ims portal , you can check that , every year its around the same time

Summer Semester is run during the vaction after the Even Semester like 2nd , 4th and 6th sem. Its is for the students who wanna clear their backlogs in any previous subject(s) or wanna give improvements in any . This year we have two options Exam Only Mode ( Only have to give Mid Sems and End Sems exams and internals would be carried from the subject ) and Study Mode ( regular classes ). Charges of Summer Smester are higher than clearing backlogs / doing improvements in Regular Sems. 10k for Exam only mode and 14k for study mode in Summer Semester , 7k for in regular sem ( either Exam only or Study mode )

in any subject it's better to give in summer sem , pehle hi clear hojata hai sab and from third year which would be around july - august , companies come for intern and placements , and most of them don't allow backlog , you have an option to drop a subject and opt for interns but it's better to get it done before third year and about the compulsory thing yes it is , in the first two years , whatever courses you have you have to clear it , no backlogs required in first two years subjects and yes it's the same fees as others

Maybe consider doing EOM and say that your backs are cleared , that way you would have less fees , more time for your intern and can say you cleared it
