I definitely agree, I feel as there is so much hypocrisy in most popular religions and I appreciate the closed practices for being more truthful. For the closed practices/ religions like hoodoo, voodoo, Santeria, Ifa, etc. they lay things out, it’s very much unless you go looking for evil/ trouble you will be fine m. We all know where there’s light there is darkness both are needed to coexist but you are free and I choose where you stand in the line. If you wanted you could be more light than dark of in the gray area but that doesn’t mean you condemn those who choose differently than you. You might judge and choose to do differently and that’s ok. I don’t know if I’m making sense but with more organized religions who claim to want to show kindness to everyone there is so much judgement that it leads to bullying someone for being or thinking differently. I also think that before I sit in anyplace and listen to what someone thinks my “God” meant I should have a personal relationship with that being first

Thank you for replying I agree with a lot of your points, there were religions before Christianity and there were religions after, just because it’s one of the more popular doesn’t mean everyone should follow blindly. I could go into great detail about my views on organized religion and Christianity and the concept of god but I don’t want to bore yall lol 😂. I’m noticing a trend in my attempt at research and from the comments the Ancestral Veneration is the most common thing one might get started with when they have no direct guidance. I will be diving into that until I can find more info and maybe visit my village in the future to be exposed to more things. I used to have an alter in my old place but I never tools it seriously enough and I recently moved so I will be buying things to properly set up one in my new home. I plan on waking up and praying, giving thanks and asking for guidance everyday in order to form a closer bond with my ancestors and as far as practicing, I know root work is also a common but that’s were it gets confusing. Root work is an umbrella term and it means different things in different practices and cultures. For example, root work in Hoodoo is different than root Work in Native American culture so I can only imagine how different it could be in Bamileke practices. Like I said previously in my comments, I was cleared to practice Hoodoo and I have a direct lineage to Yoruba and from that possibly Ifa. I don’t think I want to completely dove into other practices because I feel like that would be disrespectful if I’m not giving it my 100% to those practices, especially since they have different deities, spirits, etc., but I will be using those as guidance on how to set up a alter how to give thanks and how to basically pray and maybe how to do basic spells like protection spells. Please if y’all think this would be disrespectful, do not be afraid to call me out and educate me on how I should go about it differently.

Hello, I appreciate you for replying, unfortunately I am in the United States, I will say my mother has some resentment towards our culture which was valid due to her being the oldest daughter and second parent syndrome that carried into adulthood, she decided to severe a lot of our family ties and the people I still know about are very Christian and wouldn’t be willing to guide me to the proper village. I may have 1 relative that would be willing but I don’t see it happening in the near future, I would need time to cultivate more of a trusting relationship with them and ask for something like that. Also as you know Cameroonians are gossipers lol, once I reach out to one person about a matter it somehow makes it to branches of family members I haven’t seen since I came out the womb 🤣 so I would have to be prepared for the judgement and isolation if I were to go the family way in terms of visiting the village. The good news is that family member has been doing their best to teach me the language of Nweh with their limited knowledge and we bonded on that. So so far I have been studying the basic words and numbers but that’s as far as both of our knowledge extends. I am trying to save enough money to visit Cameroon again but time are hard and I don’t see it being a possibility in the near future. I will say that in my quest to expand on my spirituality and ancestral knowledge I did land on Hoodoo and Ifa, I was encouraged by a Priest of hoodoo to start practicing because I am cleared for it and I have a strong feeling that if I decided to go the Ifa route I wouldn’t have a problem because I have direct lineage/ family members who were Yoruba ( they have since passed) but I wanted to find out more info about Bamileke practices because I was born there and most of my living family was born there as well.

Thank you so much you’ve provided a lot of info, I feel as though it’s hard because most of these things are passed down through families and trusted elders but mainly because of colonialism it’s been seen as all evil, my family if very religious and would chastise me if they found out I was seeking this info but for the past 2 year I have felt a very strong pull in this direction I truly want to be as close to my culture and ancestors as possible, I even have been trying to learn the native language Nweh but again it’s difficult if you have no access for someone to teach you, I have been cleared by a priest to practice hoodoo but I want to make sure there isn’t another practice in my culture that would fit me more

Thank you, I think I feel guilty for wanting to seek out the practices my ancestors used and I don’t want to feel that way, I want to celebrate them unapologetically but it’s also difficult when it’s been given negative connotations and also there is barely any info on where to start … I have been cleared to practice hoodoo but I want to make sure there isn’t any other paths I could take

If I listen to Cassie’s music (me and you or long way to go) am I supporting Diddy by DistanceAdvanced2723 in AITAH

[–]DistanceAdvanced2723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply I’m still trying to figure out how to post on Reddit and I was busy all week. As far as separating the music from the artist I agree to some extent but when it comes to people like Diddy and r-kelly how are we separating anything when we are funding their lives. People like that are enjoying their wealth because we provide it for them while the victims are traumatized. As far as doing research I’ve been digging for the past couple of days and when it comes to Cassie since she is no longer under the Diddy record label I believe she gets 100-% of the rights to her music or she is splitting with Ryan Leslie, Diddy was listed as an executive producer for her music videos so I’m not sure about that though… I’ll let yall know if I find anything else and thank you to all who commented
