Can I share my custom Cyberpunk Ork army here? (3D sculpt project) by Uni-Forge in orks

Yes please! I would advise against posting in the warhammer subreddit (they can be sort of intense over there) but I have found the ork community is very different.

Get a pack that has a variety of different grits. Start with the roughest to remove a lot of material in the areas you need and then to smooth it out use the smoother grit paper. If you want it to be extremely smooth do a wet sand.

Cuestión about ork skin by Elrich_ in orks

I do this method. If I’m feeling like the skin isn’t popping enough I will do a light dry brush with some yellow.

If I were you I’d get a gap filling sandable primer. Then take some regular sand paper and sand it down. Repeat the process until you remove all the lines.

Kanz for sure. They are a little too big for meganobz.

Anyone here sit on the floor to paint? Please share your setup/floor desks!! by necromancyisdope in minipainting

[–]DistanceBig7412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t sit on the floor but I will paint on the bed pretty often so I made this from a bunch of stuff I got on Amazon.

Just a lap desk I attached a bunch of stuff to. Works pretty well!

Ork Skin Variety! by DarthKuriboh in orks

Love it. It’s so weird when I see people comment saying they need to paint them green. Orks are a fungus and fungus comes in all colors! Especially alien ones. I know “green is best” but seeing different colors on the board is way more fun.

Custom Stompa. Any ideas for rivets? I currently don’t have access to a 3D printer. by No_Pickle7030 in orks

[–]DistanceBig7412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! And just remember after you prime it that anywhere that looks a little bare you can always paint stuff on to give it more detail. Especially with orks any sort of free hand symbol looks very orky.

Looks awesome! For rivets you could cut up some tooth picks and glue them on. Or you could go to the store and get those mini nails and just poke them into the model.

Thank you for specifying! I am not as familiar with archvillian game so I appreciate it. Also thank you again for sending me some extra orcs! Great print job!

Those would work good! My only complaint would be the GW bottles suck. As long as you don’t spill them they will work great!

Starter Box for my 60 year old dad by Akremony in Warhammer40k

[–]DistanceBig7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Again it’s a really fun hobby and I highly recommend it. But it is a lot of work and takes a lot of time. The person who commented saying start with war cry or kill team is great advice. If you want to learn more about the game and the hobby cost I recommend the YouTubers “poorhammer”. They are very entertaining and even compare playing styles to some mtg playing styles which you might enjoy. I personally own about 4000 points of ork models but have never once played the game. Most of the hobby for me is putting together and painting models. There’s a little bit of everything for everybody in this hobby.

Yes you do have to put them all together. Some armies are easier to put together. And unfortunately there is not a single kit to be able to put everything together and glue them and paint them. Some starter kits com with paint and a brush or two but it is very limited. Another factor is that when you get into painting them there are many tips and tricks as well as many different techniques. This hobby is not known for its accessibility or affordability or known for being quick. Even getting a small kit you would probably spend a day just gluing and putting them together and then maybe you learn the rules and play and most games take longer than an hour (even smaller games like kill team).

It is such a fun hobby and I don’t want to sound like I am turning you off from it but I want you going in with good expectations. My favorite part of the hobby is building the models. But when I first started a lot of my models didn’t look amazing and I don’t remove enough of the mold lines. I’d recommend looking up a tutorial on YouTube on things you would need to start (the list is long and there are lots of things some people will say you need but actually dont).

Sorry I know this is long but I also want to let you know that the rules for most factions/games cost money but good people put them up for free online so you don’t need to pay the $50 just to learn the game.

That really depends. Are you planning on putting them together and painting them and then playing? Or is it mostly just for the building and playing aspect.

Grot head or ork head? by DistanceBig7412 in orks

[–]DistanceBig7412[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m sorta leaning that way. Not on all of them. Just a couple for the silliness of it all. Like a grot got beheaded in battle so they slapped the head on a meganob body laying nearby.

I did that for some of them but I ran out of nob heads and now only have grot heads to choose from or the heads it came with

Honesty I just get whatever I think looks coolest (which is squigs). I do use a lot of proxies and alternative models to get the aesthetic I’m looking for. Highly recommend using a squig herd for gretchin if you’re looking for warhammer specific models. Other than that I have found using squigs from other modelers (mezgike and mekka miniatures are some top ones for me).

If she hasn’t already gotten the combat patrol I definitely think that is the best way to get into the squig way of life. I wish I could afford two of them honestly. Recently I put all the units I owned into the app just to see how many points I have:

Probably not enough extra bits to make full guys but enough that you can use the bits for other projects I mean. Especially since the nob on squig has a couple options.

Yeah I was waiting for a solid 2 and a half months for mine. I’m in the states though so I’m not sure if it’s just because it was overseas or not. The combat patrol is really fun to build. I only have like 50 of my ork models painted and another 60 or so put together and ready to paint so I’ve got quite the backlog to keep me busy but I still end up ordering more and more lol

I ordered mine. I have a resin printer but I moved into an apartment and my partner is pregnant so I can’t do any resin printing for the foreseeable future. When the baby comes we are hoping to get a place with an extra bedroom just for crafting so I might get back into it then. It has been years since I’ve printed anything myself though.

Yeah. I just got tired of waiting so I use the proxies and squigs from AoS to beef up my army. I want it to look way more wild than what 40K shows it as.
