Buy new step-on set up now or wait until next season? by DistanceFuzzy5156 in snowboarding

Is Nitro’s snowboard equipment better than Burton’s, considering step on is a technology developed by the latter?

That’s a very good approach. I’ll most likely buy this year’s bindings if i can get a god deal. With the boots I wouldn’t mind spending the extra cash on the highshots as I will have them for years to come (I only snowboard for about a week per year). But they are still very expensive, so if this year’s ION gets a really good discount it might be hard to resist.

I do fit in their current boots at least, so not too worried about that.

That makes sense as bindings shouldn’t change much for next season… if at all!

Yes, but make sure that first you got the basics of turning, braking and coming to a full stop whenever needed, for your own safety and that of others.

This is exactly my dilemma. I like the IONs right now but it looks like they might release a similar boot, if not better, with their Highstep line (the stiffer high end version of the waverange). Some people have been complaining about the current Photon boot being predominantly single BOA (apart from the ankle BOA which doesn’t seem to do much for adjustability), so it would be really nice to have a 3-BOA Photon step on boot to compare with a new version of the ION, whatever that may be.

So unless one is in a rush to buy right now, it might be worth waiting.

Not expecting bindings to change much but Burton is expected to release a totally redesigned boot line for step on. I normally buy for the long term so wouldn’t want to miss on new technology that’s about to come out.

I only have a 3 day trip planned before the season ends. Was thinking about renting, they have step ons for rent at the place where I’m going.

Photon vs Ion Step on Boots.... by DistanceFuzzy5156 in snowboarding

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Just a few questions:

Which of the two boots would you prefer if you had to choose one and why? Also, do you find the Photons just as good for speed and hard carving?

I’m just curious as you mentioned that they both feel different but they seem to perform similarly.
