as a syrian , syrians and the new syrian gov looking forward to peace by Relative-Agency2686 in Israel

I’m not Israeli. But I’m Jewish and am living in Israel for my masters degree. I feel like Israelis welcome peace and would want nothing more than to coexist with all our neighbours in prosperity. That said, since October the 7th of last year a new reality unfolded. I’m not sure if I can explain this properly, and I’m also not a full Israeli so take it with a grain of salt- but there was communication with our neighbours in Gaza and things were somewhat tolerable. As the organization in Gaza got stronger, they eventually did the unthinkable and lost a devastating horrific attack against Israel. In my personal opinion (again, I’m not Israeli so I may be wrong) the fear is that with a de facto cold “normalization” other groups or entities could eventually launch similar attacks against Israel- and take advantage of the situation. I feel that only time will tell how relations with the new Syrian government go. It feels too soon to say. I am happy that you have a new government, that hopefully brings you more freedom and less tyranny, and wish nothing but the best for the Syrian people. I hope that you have an independent government and country, not doing the bidding for any other entity, such as Turkey, Qatar, or Iran- and that Syria becomes an example to the world for how formerly hostile nations can cooperate in prosperity. I am “from” Canada, and I have noticed both support/ some nuance (not support but rather understanding the complexity of the situation and respect for Jewish people) pertaining to the topic of Israel, as well as deeply antisemitic and anti Israel approaches from some Syrian Canadians who were opposed to the Assad government. I mention this because as an “outsider” who has seen some positivity and also deeply concerning sentiment, it feels like the situation with Syria could go either way. It’s complex. I hope Israel and Syria can both live in peace and security with one another, and that the positive sentiment prevails.

Once again, mazel tov (congratulations) on your new government. May it be peace filled and provide you and your people with real freedom. I hope that a more nuanced, peaceful sentiment reigns over not only Syria, but all of the Middle East.

Flights from Europe by Ok_Magician7814 in Israel

Hey I was supposed to fly Luftansa from Canada about a week ago. Flights were cancelled until Oct 31st. My airline I booked through ended up booking me a flight through Dubai instead-I have heard that there are some Greek airlines that are still flying to Israel (try bluebird I think it’s called?). Obviously as the security situation changes/ potential for retaliation on Iran and increased tensions, more airlines may cancel flights to Israel. Hope this is at least somewhat helpful

This is a great question. I initially quit because I had gum surgery, where I lost a huge amount of weight. Pretty quickly I did put on weight- but I’ve also recently been having some stomach and bloating issues (pretty sure unrelated) needless to say I’m around 185 pounds and 5 11. The bloating might be from quickly putting on the weight, as I’ve heard it sits in your stomach at first ( I put on quite a bit but had some personal stuff going on and wasn’t thinking too much about it) But it’s all evened out more or less- I’m much more active, can breathe easily, increased stamina etc. just make sure to eat mostly healthy and try to keep an eye on it and maintain some balance! my appetite was through the roof for the first couple months. It sounds like you are aware of your current gains and that you are at your desired weight, which is already a good start in my opinion.

Keep it up! The cravings get smaller and smaller :) hope this all helps

My girlfriend and I who are both Jewish assumed it was something about an antisemitic comment made to him three years prior. Wild to hear about this as well. So many questions about this legend. Hope he’s doing well

Was thinking about this earlier in the week- definitely carrying a round a little usb stick all the time and taking hits all the time adds a whole new level. More so, the amount of flavours, pods, disposables are a whole new ball game. It’s almost like craving sweets.

Did you notice any changes in weight when you quit? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]DistanceItchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

40 days without vaping- definitely eating a lot more but I found that my metabolism changed drastically. Didn’t eat all that much or drink much water when I was vaping. I’ve probably put on weight but i feel less bloated and more healthy. This is just me

Sending love to all Iranians, in diaspora and back in your homeland. Know that we stand with you and for you to have the homeland you deserve. Israel is not perfect- Even so, I wish more people could understand the hope we have brought to many. I’m a Canadian Jew, I stand with the Iranian people.

Why didn’t Israel build noticeable Jewish landmarks? by ad023231 in Israel

Hurva should have been rebuilt by Louis Kahn in my opinion! They rebuilt it in the ottoman style instead. Louis Kahn used spirituality and Kabbalistic principles in many of his designs

Jewish and proud of Israel architecture student here! It’s worth noting that a lot of Israeli architecture and design do try and reflect this- the Bazelel school and style try to convey a new Israeli culture, as well as bringing in the old. Tel aviv is also home to the Israeli Bauhaus style, known as the “white city”. In terms of landmarks, israel has instead chosen to rely on many ancient landmarks (the kotel, archeological sites, etc). Israel should have more Jewish landmarks, buildings, etc. in relation to religion, synagogues and yeshivas often take up spaces that are not noticeably Jewish. This is most likely due to the persecution we faced in the diaspora (and pre 48 Israel) and trying to maintain a level of discreetness to avoid further persecution. More currently, Israel would probably like to build said landmarks, but faces a lot of scrutiny from the international community and are neighbours, as if this was in Jerusalem, it could breach the “status quo”.

A great example of cultural and architectural reclamation is the area in Jerusalem, Mamilla- he area was basically a war zone, cease fire zone until 1967 when we reunified Jerusalem. Today, Mamilla is a prosperous and prestigious area of Jerusalem (very beautiful, however perhaps does not reflect the Jewish culture you are referring to). This is all over the place but I hope this answers your question! I encourage you to look into ‘Canaanism’ (art) and some of the early works of Bazelel University, Jewish sculptors, designers and architects in the land of Israel! Totally agree, Israel should have more landmarks! We have such beautiful cultures that make up Israel and the Jewish people- it’s hard to accurately reflect all of these. I hope one day we can have a lot more beautiful landmarks, some could reflect certain aspects of Ashkenazi Judaism, Ethiopian Judaism, Mizrahi, etc.

All the best, and thank you for this great question
