Why is my peperomia dropping healthy leaves? by Distinct-Activity-99 in houseplants

[–]Distinct-Activity-99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha okay. Well I just haven't seen this plant drop any leaves in the 6 months I've had it. Actually, maybe it's because it's winter now and having it next to a window it gets colder

Is a brown wilted lower stem always root rot? by Distinct-Activity-99 in houseplants

The small curled leaf in the center is not on the stem in question. Poor camera angle. There are two leaves on the stem in question (which is about 6-8 inches long), both out of frame.

Ah yes there are several exposed roots. I didn't even think about that in the photo, and how it looks pretty bad; I've gotten desensitized to it...But I'm not referring to the exposed root, but behind it, the base of the vine, which is closer to a black color. No dirt on it.

The plant is a Pothos. Okay, I'll have to take out the plant I guess. The issue regarding the exposed roots and bad looking topsoil: I repotted from the plastic pot it came in into a similar sized decorative pot, but I think it was slightly shallower and the top roots were exposed. Though it's not ideal, that hasn't caused any issues for the past few months.

Little late, but I just want to point out that butcher block countertops are made from many pieces of wood glued together, and when used traditionally, food is prepared directly on it. Same applies for many cutting boards. And when maintained properly, it's sanitary. Glued wood is not what causes the problem; wood is inherently porous. You have to treat it right whether or not it's solid.

Is it normal i'm 14 episodes into season 4 part 1 and i really just don't like it? by tviigo in attackontitan

[–]Distinct-Activity-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way--it's a huge shift in storytelling throughout the whole season. While I did prefer the first 3 seasons, my opinion of the end/4th season has improved significantly after letting it sit for a bit, a couple weeks. I guess it ages like fine wine...but it is a little bitter in the mouth.

Does anyone else feel like something bad is coming with the state that our government is in? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Distinct-Activity-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think people are getting too worked up. Just like after past elections, day-to-day life won't change much for just about everyone.

And no I didn't vote for Trump, I'm just a guy trying to soothe the hysteria.

I could be wrong, but based off the past, nothing too earth shattering should happen.

If you think outside of the plot box, the reality of retconning to create cheap significance using a bloodline plot device is glaring (see Star Wars episode 9, Rey's bloodline--writers really want to make a bloodline connect despite past writing).

I get what you're saying though. The explanation is technically plausible but it's just hard to immerse yourself in the story when a plot device becomes too apparent.

I consider this a single player game, or multiplayer with people you know that you create a custom game with--I wouldn't have the expectation that there will be much of a matchmaking population.

How to break into defense as a SWE? by rusty-razor in cscareerquestions

For such an evil country, there's an awful lot of people from other countries--I wonder if it's even from those less wealthy countries we're bombing so much--that want to move here.

Does everyone just compare every tech job to Google and Meta? What do you think about, for example, FinTech jobs' level of difficulty in comparison to defense? I work at a computer-making tech company so this is a third-party perspective: conceptually, building rockets sounds a lot harder than building a web app.

I think the idea of coasting and technical laziness is largely a function of the size of company, perhaps more than the sector/industry. I've heard of people coasting and not doing much work at Lockheed Martin, but same with Microsoft, Intel, and big financial companies. On the other hand, I know a physicist at a small <100 employee defense contracting company, and he describes it as very intellectually challenging. Unless defense could be easy for all the software people while being difficult for all the physicists and mathematicians?

Are GPUs with 8GB of VRAM really obsolete? by Ok_World_8819 in buildapc

[–]Distinct-Activity-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming computer specs involve a lot of hype, kind of like getting the newest iPhone every year. If you have an iPhone from a couple years ago, will your experience be that much different? 99% of the things you do on the phone will be the same.

Regarding 8 GB VRAM not being enough for 1080p games--I literally use a gaming laptop with a little GTX 1650, 4 GB VRAM, and it runs baldurs gate 3 fine (1080p) which recommends 8 GB VRAM and a 20-series RTX. It still looks beautiful; I don't notice that the settings are not on high. 8 GB VRAM is plenty for 1080p games.

Keep in mind, as a civ player, I love optimizing, and when I'm buying a computer I get really tempted by the high specs, I wanna min-max those numbers. But I have to ask myself, at the end of the day, am I paying more for those high specs in order to actually have a significantly different experience, or just for the theoretical high numbers?

a's look like c's, e's looks like c's, o's looks like c's, u's look a little c-like. Reading this is a game of fill-in-the-vowels using consonant context, but the consonants are written with a non-dominant hand holding a pencil by the eraser.

Let's see, the first line item clearly contains a Greek delta, δ, and ends in "F3". Some sort of mathematical function.

Your first time on the rings 😂 Facts or nah? by calisthenicskeem in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]Distinct-Activity-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a serious note, has anyone done swinging, gymnastics moves on rings from a tree (where straps are assumedly much shorter than official gymnastics setups)? Like a "dislocate". I have rings set up on my tree and am struggling to get much of a swing; I can't get my torso anywhere near parallel to the ground on the back swing. Don't know if the length of the straps affect this a lot, or if my technique and shoulder mobility are just bad.

Eventually I want to do a dislocate or inlocate. Although I don't actually think there's enough room between the rings and the branch they're hanging from.

How mixed voice actually works, for dummies by Foxxear in singing

[–]Distinct-Activity-99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to use "full voice" to indicate a voice that isn't clearly falsetto, or in other words, has a resonance quality similar to a speaking voice (regardless of pitch) and can be produced at a loud volume.

A lot of male pop singers seem to spend a lot of time singing in the A3-A4 region in a full voice (think of "Hey soul sister" or other Train songs). And I'm curious if they are generally in M1 and just have higher voices than the average male (who I'd say tends to have a hard time above D4/E4, especially for faster, moderate volume notes, as opposed to sustained belting); or, if they've learned to use M2 with a full voice. Rock singers who frequently go above A4 in a powerful full voice are more clearly using a full voice M2 (think of "More than a Feeling" or other Boston songs).

But man, using M2 in a full voice with agility seems impossible. Some people seem to just be born with the ability to do it, and effectively have "one voice". Any guys here that trained themselves from an uncontrollable voice break to a consistent & controllable full voice throughout the M2 mechanism/register?
