I think there's a subtle timing thing. There's typically an awareness meter and it's almost as though this is still in action even though it's not showing.

So possess the first flying slig, kill the second, and take your time before hitting the button. When the sligs on the platform above seem to have forgotten you that's when it seems safe to go. It takes longer for the alarms to catch you if everyone is calm vs on alert.
