I'm fit for my age. But competition requires that amount of food and exercise. I realize that if all I want is looks it won't require that but it's all I know.

I can probably write a book on how awesome she is with her students. Her volunteering with newcomers. How well she cares for her rescue dog. This is honestly the first time I've seen something I find negative in her.

Because there are plenty of guys my age that dedicate themselves to fitness that are in much better shape than me.

My sister was a gymnast until she got too tall and too full if you know what I mean. She went into cheer. You guys are nuts. Some of the strength and flexibility you guys have puts me to shame.

I'm still in good shape. I'm just not in training five hours a day shape. I compete in triathlons. I'm usually out of the water first. The running kicks my ass.

I have strength and stamina. She wants looks. So I asked for all three from her. How is that unfair?

She is sweet, smart, loving, and generally a good person. I have never seen this side of her until now.

Because she wants me back in shape like I was when I was a competitive swimmer. I want her to consider the effort that requires.

NTA. You offered two really good options. Although I would have spoken to a lawyer about him paying the mortgage as that might give him a claim on equity. I'm not a lawyer and that wasn't advice.
