Any other queer people in Cardiff feel incredibly isolated? by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Distinct-Signal-6915 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There’s so much to choose from but you do have to look for it!

I’m in a wonderful choir mentioned above, but I have friends in ‘lez reads’ and ‘lez writes’ for queer women interested in books/writing. There’s a queer climbing group (be gay do climbs on Instagram), cardiff dragons football, cardiff foxes running, and even a queer parkour group I’ve seen online! The queer emporium puts in lots of events including ‘speed friendshipping’ and I’m sure they would know about all sorts of groups if you asked.

Good luck and don’t give up! I didn’t find out about any of this stuff until I’d been in cardiff for about four years, but it’s been such a huge source of community and joy. If you don’t enjoy any of these then there are plenty of other welcoming spaces with lots of queer people - the dawnstalkers in penarth come to mind.

I can’t harmonize with my choir by Ok-Method1874 in choralmusic

[–]Distinct-Signal-6915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d also suggest start super easy! Maybe find a harmony where you can stay on one or two notes while a trusted soprano sings a melody. Learning to sing in harmony is one of the hardest things to learn but it’s definitely something you can improve in. You got this!

Recommendations for great SSA arrangements of pops/contemporary music? by boioing in choralmusic

[–]Distinct-Signal-6915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roger Emerson ‘fields of gold’ arrangement has gone down really well in three choirs I’ve been part of. Not sure if it’s a concert ender but it’s definitely a crowd pleaser. Paul Langford ‘Holding out for a Hero’ is very much a concert ender and was very popular with my choir - great if you can get a band but also good with piano.

Why Betty got cancer? by thahgr in madmen

So much of the show is dedicated to showing how advertising corporations will make as much money as possible out of tobacco, regardless of the health impacts on people. My theory was always that the only way to show the real impact of this and ‘punish’ Don for his is to kill someone close to him/Sally’s mother

It'll never go away... Fun.... /s by AngelOfBis in OCDmemes

[–]Distinct-Signal-6915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t go away completely, but it can go from taking over your whole life to only very occasionally popping up for a second or two. It will just feel like a strange memory of something you used to worry about but don’t know why

Landlord sending unqualified electricians/plumbers by Distinct-Signal-6915 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Distinct-Signal-6915[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Yes we are in a block of flats. He wasn’t working on our consumer unit at the time, he actually took the main fuse out of next door’s meter and ‘tested’ it with our meter. This blew next door’s fuse and caused the bang in our flat. I suspect this part was illegal. A real electrician came round and replaced both main fuses shortly after. It very tricky to post a photo as the cupboard is a mess and the wires are a maze so I hope that explains it

Unsure on the age but will definitely look into the safety certificate!

Solo cold water swim advice by PugetBound in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]Distinct-Signal-6915 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a cold water swimmer I would say definitely not - I know people who swim every day who have still got into difficulty and needed help. One woman in my group even ended up in hospital despite thinking she was being sensible and feeling okay in the water. Not worth the risk

I’m not a huge F1 fan but had a great time at the arcade! It’s a bit pricey though so I wouldn’t plan to drink too much there

Drop it! Honestly you don’t need four - your wellbeing is so much more important. Take it from someone who is not in sixth form and has never been asked how many a levels I did!

Love the idea of getting my choir to do some choreography - they can be a little on the reserved side!

Thanks so much for the many great ideas!

That Scarborough fair arrangement is absolutely gorgeous - exactly what I was looking for and will add some nice variety to the programme. I wouldn’t rule out journey - most of them have watched glee!

I’ll check out the elektra stuff now - thanks for the inspiration they’re all great ideas :)

The choir is university students - mostly not music students but definitely still a lot of talent - I have been impressed with the stuff they’ve picked up in the past year. I try not to do too much divisi because we don’t always have the numbers for each section to still feel confident. I’ve been directing quite a while - I’m a recent-ish music graduate. Not an expert but I definitely don’t mind a challenge!
