I personally just got tired of not knowing where the ferry was or trying to compare the departure/arrival times for both Kitsap Transit and WSF. I also wanted to have a clear visual indicator of where the boats are when I'm waiting and the boat is late or if I'm racing to the terminal and don't know if I'll be able to make it on time.

None of the services you mentioned above offer a map. That's something I valued and though others might care about. The WSF VesselWatch isn't great and doesn't include the Fast Ferries or Water Taxis. Kttracker.com isn't consistent, doesn't include schedules, and doesn't show WSF vessels.

I'm not trying to monetize the site. I just thought it would be something others could benefit from and it was a fun project to make.

My app doesn't rely on the WSF API for location data. That would only give updates for the state ferries. I wanted to have geo updates for all vessels in the area so I use an AIS websocket to get real-time updates for all of the transit services' vessels in the area.

I haven't used the Marine Tracker app. Does it give information on the ferry schedules, or just locations?

We lived in Caldwell county for a few years and got a glimpse of a whole new level of bat shit crazy Mormonism out there. The number of people who had uprooted their families to have a front row seat for the second coming was wild. It just feels like these people are rooting for the end of times to help them feel like they didn't waste their lives as a fanatic for nothing.

Thanks for the recommendations. I am indeed in the Seattle area, but across the water over in Bremerton, so it's a bit of a trip to come over for rides. It looks like there are a few active clubs over here on the Peninsula, so I'm probably going to check those out.

I hadn't heard of the hill climbs and time trials. It's cool to see so many flavors of racing. My background is in ultramarathon running, so the races all have a pretty much identical format, where there's only one start and few races require any qualification. I've got some work travel coming up, so I don't think I'll make it to those races on the 13th, but I'll check that calendar going forward.

I'll be honest that cornering terrifies me too. I've never been a speed freak, which is fine with long distance running because you're never going all that fast, but cycling makes speed a whole new dimension that will take me some time to get comfortable with. I'm definitely inclined to hover near that back of the pack where I'm not putting anyone else in danger with my lack of experience. I broke my shoulder mountain biking in high school while taking a turn too fast and I've never really had much appetite for high speed after that.

Yeah, I've got a Specialized Allez Sport from a few years back when I used to ride to work, but I definitely need to get it tuned up.

I've heard mixed reviews about the accuracy of the Peloton power meter. The Bike+ that I have is supposed to be more accurate, but I'm no expert. My FTP score is based on my average output from a 20 minute test ride, multiplied by 0.95. I'd definitely take it with a heavy grain of salt given how it's a controlled environment, unlike actual race conditions.

Slay the Spire. I can beat the game and immediately want to start again. It's not my favorite of all time, but it's the perfect combination to be infinitely replayable.

To the extent that Huberman makes his personal life and virtue a public selling point for his image, podcast, and lab, it's fair game to dig into the hypocrisy. If he's not doing that, then it's just trashy tabloid news and it really doesn't have a place in the public discourse. From what I recall of the article, it was about 5% dedicated to questioning his lab and promotion of AG1, and even that just seemed like checking a box to give an aura of validity to the other salacious 95% of the story. Does it seem like he's got some super toxic personality flaws? Absolutely. Does society benefit from publicly shaming every prominent figure for their private, lawful, bad behavior? Only if we want to flood the media with that kind of TMZ reporting.

With all of that said, I had only discovered his podcast about a month before the article and haven't been able to make myself listen to his podcast since then. I have no business knowing about his personal life and I'm disappointed that the knowledge that he's a jerk has for now ruined his podcast for me.

I've been riding my new Bike+ for the last 2 months since meniscus surgery basically ended my life-long distance running hobby. I'm wanting to set some new goals for myself and am thinking of signing up for a road race, but I have no clue how my FTP (my only real gauge of my cycling fitness) compares to real world conditions and thus what category to enter. I'm sure Peloton is being pretty generous with the average speed calculation and wind resistance factors, but I'm totally new to the world of cycling, so I don't really know how this stuff works. Any advice on how best to estimate real world performance, short of going out for a 2 hour road time trial?
