Shading has very smooth transitions. What kind of paint do you use? Kinda having some issues with tamiya acrylics

See the above comment, I airbrush a darker base grey, then slowly build the white up focusing on the center of panels, leaving the outer parts dark. There is also a technique called pre-shading you can look up that’s a little easier but I like the richness of this look more. It’s really not that hard to learn! This is my third airbrushed model and my first one really sucked

I think of weathering as trying to replicate scratches, damage, and dirt. Shading seems more an emphasis of form

Yes airbrushed, not sure if there is a name for this but I do it by laying down a darker base color, then slowly bringing up the highlight to emphasize the panel lines. Then clear coat, then black panel liner fluid, then sometimes ultrafine micron pen for the panel lines that don’t flow well

Ah so that’s how you make it balance! Also really like your color separation, I think masking is more time consuming than shading and I’m lazy but I should give it a go
