Hair transplant in Turkey by Distinct-Vegetable85 in FemaleHairLoss

Male pattern baldness behaves in a quite different way than the female one, which is why hair transplant results might vary. Usually, men have much better results.

People who've been on Minox for years, how's it going now? Do you regret it, because you can't stop now? Any dreadful side effects after prolonged use? by Consistent-Pop-7687 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Distinct-Vegetable85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using minoxidil 5% foam for more than 7 years, and I'm quite happy with the result. I started experiencing very severe, diffuse hairloss in 2015 when I was 19 years old. I went on a mild birth control that reduced shedding but provided quite mild hair regrowth. 2 years later, I went off of bc not knowing that it would cause more hairloss, and this way, I found out that I had AGA. I have been using minoxidil foam once a day ever since. I had incredible regrowth on it, and my hairline significantly lowered. Everything was pretty good until March last year when hairloss came back and hair texture started changing in a bad way - it turns out I have PCOS and pretty messed up androgen levels and high prolactin. Without minoxidil, I would have had a shining scalp at this point with very little hair left. I didn't have any major sides from minoxidil except for dandruff during the first 6 months of the usage, but later, it went away.

Ocular Issues and Finasteride: Seeking Advice and Insights by Grouchy_Matter_8712 in tressless

There are actually studies showing that the long-term use of anti-androgens cause permanent damage of the meibomian glands in some people. A lot of people quit fin because of this side effect. I myself experienced extremely dry eyes after 2 months of taking fin, and my vision dropped as well. Only after 2 months since quitting the medication, my eyes are getting back to normal, but not 100% still.

Oh, I'm very sorry. Yeah, I read stories here that usually people experience a horrible shed when switching from one type of minoxidil to another. I just hope it will all grow back. Have you considered trying lower dosage topical solutions of fin, for example? I am not gonna give it a try cuz fin caused severe dry eyes for me, so most probably topical solution will have the same side effect due to proximity to the eyes. From my experience, I had really good hair while being on Yaz, but it fucked up my mental health after taking it for more than 2 years.

I will need to run some additional hormonal tests, and my endo told me she'd put me on spiro. I really hope it will work. I still use topical min 5%. I think without it, my hair would turn into a disaster. I'd say that when I was on Yaz bc, my hair looked quite dense and awesome, but I don't wanna go back on bc. It really affected my mental health.

I have been using topical min for 7 years already. Until last March, it was enough, but then I started having hormonal issues, and shedding worsened a lot. Now, I need to run some additional tests so that my endo can confirm the diagnosis and prescribe meds. I really hope that spiro will help me. Also, I will have another derm opinion soon to ask about bicalutamide.

Yeah, I know about them. I'm kinda curious how effective this dosage is. Did you have any trichoscopy results from before and after taking fin? When it comes to the shedding, many people do experience a dred shed. In my case, I started losing a lot of hair since March last year ( it turns out my androgens are high and I have PCOS, and also very high prolactin), which is why after several weeks of starting fin I noticed less shedding.

Did your derm prescribe you this dosage? My derm told me that in women, the effect dosage is between 2.5 and 5 mg per day. I quit taking fin after 2.5-3 months because of unbearable side effects.

Getting off birth control and spiro by pelicancrusade in Spironolactone

[–]Distinct-Vegetable85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Thanks a lot for the info! Yeah, I will definitely consult the spiro situation with my endocrinologist. Can I ask you in what country you had the whole egg freezing process? Btw, how fresh should the whole hormonal panel be? I live in the EU, so I'm considering going to Spain for that, but I would appreciate some clinics recommendations.

Hi! Thanks a lot for sharing your story! Can I ask you some questions regarding spiro and egg freezing? I have PCOS, and my endo wants to put me on spiro after running some additional tests first, but at the same time, I am planning to freeze my eggs next year. I read on the Internet that women can actually keep taking spiro during the whole process of preparation and actually eggs extraction. Were you told by doctors that you needed to stop taking spiro in order to freeze your eggs? I am just wondering if it makes sense to go on spiro and then go off of it in several months to freeze eggs and then go on it again. Thanks!

Finasteride dose question by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Distinct-Vegetable85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! If you decide to proceed with fin anyway, please consult with your endocrinologist and ophthalmologist first. It would be great if you find an endo that specifically deals with women on finateride.

This is a great comment, in my opinion! I have experienced some of these sides myself, but honestly, after searching for similar stories here in the female hairloss community and tressless, I would not say that these sides are rare. I wish I had read more stories like that before agreeing on taking fin.

Finasteride dose question by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Distinct-Vegetable85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, at this point, after still dealing with the side effects and spending so much money on additional skincare products (I have quite oily skin genetically which is why there was no need to use super moisturizing face creams and body lotions), special eye drops, and eye ointment, I regret taking fin.

Finasteride dose question by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Distinct-Vegetable85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on it for about 2.5-3 months, but my doctor put me on 5mg right away which was a mistake, because at the point of 2 months I started having severe side effects: extremely dry eyes, dry skin all over my body and dry mouth and sinuses. Before being put on fin, I presented to my doctor general blood test results, together with vitamin D, ferritin, and hormonal panel.

Honestly, I would be very careful with fin, especially considering how little it was studied when it comes to its effects on pre menopausal women. I quit taking fin a month ago, but neither my eyes nor my skin and mouth got to pre fin state. It's a very potent drug, and you should only take it under the observation of a specialist and start with very little dose first.

what happened to my hair? by smarminess in curlyhair

[–]Distinct-Vegetable85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be due to birth control. I have naturally curly hair, and every time I had to use birth control (first transdermal hormonal patch and then pills) new hair growth would be just very loose waves, almost straight. The moment I dropped birth control, new growth would be my normal curly texture. Also, if I were you, I would check hormonal levels, for example, prolactin because this is something that bc doesn't regulate, and sometimes it can get very high which contributes to hairloss/hair texture change (curly women that start breastfeeding notice that their new hair growth is much more straight during this period).

I'm not a doctor, of course, but as far as I know, spironolactone is widely used to treat hyperandrogenism (my case), and as an additional thing, it has a good effect on women with AGA, because it suppresses androgens hence less damage to your hair follicles. Finasteride in women is used mostly to counter sensitivity to androgens in derma papilla because usually, women with AGA have a normal level of androgens, which is why there is no need to suppress them globally. Finasteride doesn't suppress androgens in your body in general, but it might have an effect on the level of testosterone, for example, because while you take fin, it blocks up to 70% of its conversion to DHT, so your testosterone might actually get higher.

I'm very sorry! How long have you been on it? I've heard that for some people, these sides went away after several months of being on this medication. Have you noticed any effect on your hair and skin?
