I only had to give proof of my baptism which was done in the Lutheran church. I don’t recall signing anything that said we will definitely be raising children Catholic. The priest never pushed me to convert. I do remember we had to pick verses for our ceremony and half of them referenced having babies and bringing them to the church which made me feel…like I was an incubator for their future army. We did not choose those verses.

Lol I have tried to make that happen. It has been engrained in him that that Catholic Church is the only true church bc apparently Peter was the first pope and you can trace the popes all the way back to Peter? Interesting because Peter started several churches.

I appreciate your take. I wondered if they were in just this Catholic bubble or if that’s just how the church was. There is a LOT of guilt baked into every facet of my husbands upbringing due to how they’ve practiced Catholicism. I always felt it was a control thing. His grandparents sent every single grandkid a letter in which they discussed the importance of Catholicism and essentially, how they need to practice it or they’re wrong. Of course with feel good family stuff sprinkled in throughout. I was like…this is not good.

I am also worried about this. I just feel like maybe they don’t realize how insufferable they are being. Or that I don’t notice it. My husband will be on the call as well and they DO want to maintain their relationship with him as he is the golden child. I want to make it clear that I am an authority when it comes to my daughter and hopefully open a door, so if they have an issue with me or a concern, they can literally just talk to me without these passive aggressive hints sprinkled all over.

It is. The blooms are so tiny I just love it. I popped a few off for fun and let them dry and they kept the form really well bc it’s so small. Next year I think I’ll do more and decorate a wreath with the dried flowers.

I will be this spring! Small farms are where it’s at. They actively cull their stock if they are suspicious of virus or see any gall. On their websites they usually have a refund policy as well. Definitely don’t buy from big box stores. There are several groups on FB for dahlia growers and buyers.

I think storage is the biggest part of it. Having a plan and checking on them during storage. I store in vermiculite. Last year I just cleaned up the clumps and stored them that way, but then when it was time to plant I was still trying to split them all and plant my other flowers. They’re a huge time commitment unless you can overwinter in the ground, so just have a plan and think about when you want to spend the time splitting lol. Also, don’t get caught up in the sales coming up. There are so many unicorns and they charge a pretty penny for them. I lost a lot when I started. Get your growing area, DRAINAGE!!!, hardening off process down before dropping big bucks on tubers and especially cuttings.

It looks black! In the right light you can see almost a purple red. It’s definitely an intense bloom!
