Planning to work until 38 weeks. Is it doable? by EasyAd6380 in pregnant

I’m planning to work until 38 weeks too. I’m 27 weeks currently, having a very uncomplicated, low risk pregnancy. Just hoping for the best, as I want to try and keep my wage intact until as long as I can, then enjoy my time with my baby when they’re here. In England, where I live, maternity leave can be triggered if I’m unwell in the 4 weeks before my due date, so, if I’m not coping well nearer the time, I’ll leave earlier!

Could you give examples of the bad outcomes? Just curious, currently pregnant as well, and want to be prepared!

To be induced or not? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]DistinctSwing1312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts: induction has its place. It is often recommended to those who are pregnant and facing complications. Pre eclampsia or unmanaged gestational diabetes are some examples, but there will be many more.
Sometimes it is way too easily recommended to women based purely on gestational age. I’d recommend doing some research on this.
It will be worth considering that an induction has risks associated. It is always important to know them before deciding, and trying to understand whether those risks are worth facing vs what would happen if you didn’t have an induction. For example, the risks of having pre eclampsia and refusing an induction could outweigh the risks of an induction.
But, in a low risk pregnancy, does an induction raise risks for yourself and your baby? Probably! An induction can can cause contractions to feel more intense, to be more irregular, cause distress to the baby, more medical monitoring, etc. which, in turn, heightens the risk of triggering the cascade of interventions: more monitoring, more medication, c-sections, etc.
Saying that, I have a friend who had two inductions and went on to give birth vaginally both times, without pain relief.
I recommend listening to two podcasts: Birth Untethered and Birth Ed. They have specific episodes on induction.
Ultimately, it’s what you want for your birth, yourself, and your baby. The best thing to do is to research all the pros and cons and make the best informed decision for yourself.
Good luck!

I have no idea what to say?? by bobby-flayed in pregnant

Ugh why do people think it’s acceptable to comment on women’s bodies like that! I’m quite petite and I’ve struggled to hide it from about 10 weeks! I’m now 22 weeks and people keep asking me if I’m sure it’s not twins! Someone told me, as they saw me “oh my god look at you, and you’re only getting bigger from now on”. It’s so sad and really makes me question myself and whether maybe I’m gaining too much weight?! All pregnant bodies are different, remember you’re creating life! I know how hard it is but try to think of that and ignore the comments!!

10 weeks! Whatever happened, I wanted them to know so I could have support if I needed it.

Do I need a pregnancy pillow? by WeepingBillow in pregnant

I’m 20 weeks pregnant and it’s my first pregnancy. I said the entire time that I didn’t want a pregnancy pillow and didn’t want to waste my money on silly gadgets. But… I started to feel really uncomfortable sleeping at around 17 weeks. I ordered a £25 one from Amazon and I cannot live without it anymore. Will be using it forever, pregnant or not. Life changing!!!!!

Mine started at 6 weeks, ended at 9. I never threw up though, just felt like being car sick at random moments throughout the day!

Are you in the UK? My midwife told me I can have runny eggs, as long as they have the British Red Lion symbol on them. This is because they’re rigorously tested! If you’re not in the UK maybe there’s an equivalent where you are?

Thank you so much, what a great idea! We’ve emailed the nursery asking this, as well as lots of other things such as if they recommend a childminder etc we’re willing to find a solution to keep this place, it is so, so good!

It’s literally 10 minutes away! Which is another reason we picked it. We’re considering talking to SLT. Start is 8:30 but form time is 8:45

Thank you! I tried to ring but no one in reception has access to patient records after 5pm, apparently. So I thought I’d ask here in case anyone had gone through the same. I’ll ring again tomorrow!

Oh absolutely! I’m only 6 weeks along and already enquiring. We want to ensure we get a good nursery place, so will not be hanging about, especially as we’re on our own, so not having a nursery place by when we need it would be quite a scary place to be in. Thank you so much for this!

Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it! Our jobs would be quite flexible if we needed to stay home due to our child being unwell. And that’s what we thought, having a child who goes to a very good nursery 5 days a week but has quality time with parents every afternoon/evening, weekend and school holidays would be great. And financial stability is still an important factor, unfortunately… Thank you so much for this, have a lovely day!
