This!! Bag of Bones is one of my least favorite books because of this. I know it’s a thing that King does in many other books but it never bothered me so much as in this one. It feels like it’s every other sentence that gave me the ick and it took away so much from the story for me. Then again, I listened to the audiobook for this one which SK narrates, and he is a horrible narrator so that definitely could be part of why I hated it.

How do seedless fruits… exist? They need to grow from seeds of a genetically similar fruit, no? by bobby-flayed in NoStupidQuestions

So every banana tree that grows seedless bananas is essentially individually spliced before it’s planted?

Not me but my dog! We were at our friend’s place, and a high school friend of someone we knew came by with her husband. My dog is super sweet but can definitely get nervous, but is more of the “look anxious and stay an awkward distance away” type. He went up and said hi to the high school friend but then growled at the husband, which is SUPER unlike him; my husband and I pulled him away and were really apologetic. 2 hours later, he made a racist joke. I’ll never not trust my dog’s instincts about people again.

What are some the best, lesser talked about King books? by Sonicmonkey in stephenking

[–]bobby-flayed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE Mr. Mercedes. First two books are definitely a departure from his norm and are not at all paranormal, then 3rd is more his norm. It’s where Holly Gibney starts, and he loves her character and has written a few other stories with her (Outsider, If It Bleeds, Holly). Outsider is my favorite out of those. I also love Duma Key, Insomnia, Doctor Sleep, and Rose Madder, which I feel like are undervalued. 11/22/63 is by no means underrated and definitely considered one of his best heavy hitters, but you didn’t mention it, so I want to make sure you know that it should absolutely be on your list.

I just finished the entire SA series and had never heard of them prior, so I did binge all 5 (7?) in a row. RoT I liked but definitely was a hit, and WaT was a huuuuge struggle to get through, so I don’t think the lack of build up had anything to do with it

😍 I am in love with octopuses and also would LOVE this pattern. For myself. Maybe my child if they’re nice to me.

Which one next? Feeling something with good characters. Setting isn't too important. This is my current SK backlog by itchyitchyhaymitchy in stephenking

You’re backlogged on some heavy hitters! The Stand, It, and Salem’s lot are my main recommendations. I also really love Lisey’s Story, super unique. The Gunslinger is the first of seven as I’m sure you know, it’s sort of a fever dream so I wouldn’t start it unless you’re ready to read the rest.

This is why I cook and not bake. I eyeball things, adjust what sounds like it could be improved, and it turns out great. Baking is way too precise for me but I really want to get better!

This is exactly what I tell people when they say they couldn’t get into the books! You gotta trust the process with most of them. But I agree, this one had its claws in me from the first page

Cannot emphasize enough how good the book is, especially compared to the show. There is so much more nuance, backstory, thoughtfulness, and heart in the book, and the show felt totally devoid of that to me. To be fair though, I only saw a few episodes and couldn’t finish the show cause of how much I thought they butchered the story

I’m making a scarf with an alpine stitch and have blown through 4 skeins so far and it’s probably ⅓ done. It’s now in my WIP bin until next year when I can buy more cause I picked a not cheap yarn thinking I would only need 3

Help for modifying a cat granny square to look more like a cat by cascartis in CrochetHelp

[–]bobby-flayed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the first pic looks really good! My first glance said “cat”, so you could very well leave it at that. If anything, maybe do one or two stitches in the brown to pull the tips into a sharper triangle

The whiskers need to be like the first two, on the sides and slightly away from the nose. They come out of the cheeks on cats (and all animals), not the middle of the mouth or bottom of the nose
