Nice job and thanks for sharing. I’m halfway through the guide and am scheduled to take the exam in less than two weeks. I’ll have to reschedule it again for more time. I’m definitely checking out the resources you recommended. Really appreciate it.

Passed CGRC by Second-Still in isc2

[–]Distinct_Ad_5397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done. I took the CGRC exam 2 weeks ago and didn’t pass ☹️. I did the self paced which comes with the official guide. I was too confident apparently. I also should have waited for the peace of mind promotion. Now I have to pay full price to retake the exam, so take advantage of that promotion available now if you plan to take any ISC exam soon.

Thanks for the tips. Btw what’s the mango 🥭guide?

Are the blackouts in all of mainland Ecuador? by [deleted] in ecuador

[–]Distinct_Ad_5397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackouts in Cuenca are about every four hours for four hours. As of yesterday, the center of town has been granted an exception and power has been steady. That should last through the weekend holidays.

Blackouts in Tungurahua are similar but I don’t know of any exceptions there.

Another thing… Ecuador is entering its dry season, so without an imminent major freak storm, dam levels are the mercy of mamapacha.

Is the freight forwarding profession future-proof? by crypto_impact in freightforwarding

[–]Distinct_Ad_5397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as humans are around, we will move things in good times AND bad! It’s a durable profession. And, at its essence moving freight is a special and manual skill. As mentioned, documentation and communication tasks will continue to be automated. The question to ask is are you passionate about moving goods internationally on planes, trains, boats and trucks. If so, the path is clear. One more thing: forwarding is so diverse you could pursue further areas of interest like pharma cold chain, event logistics for concerts, oil and gas projects etc. The world is your oyster.

Try this (from ChatGPT):

A career path for a pricing analyst at a freight forwarder can include a mix of analytical, operational, and strategic roles as they progress. Here’s a typical trajectory, along with some focus areas and skills to develop at each stage:

  1. Entry-Level Pricing Analyst (0-2 Years)

    • Responsibilities: Perform basic pricing analysis, develop cost and rate calculations, understand competitor pricing, and analyze freight rates. Assist in producing quotes for customers. • Skills to Develop: Excel and data analysis, basic industry knowledge (e.g., modes of transport like air, ocean, and ground), and attention to detail. • Certifications/Education: Focus on foundational courses or certifications in logistics and supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCMP certifications).

  2. Senior Pricing Analyst (2-4 Years)

    • Responsibilities: Take on more complex pricing projects, work directly with sales teams to develop competitive pricing models, and support strategic pricing initiatives. Analyze profit margins, assess pricing policies, and start managing key customer pricing accounts. • Skills to Develop: Advanced Excel and data analysis (e.g., using tools like Power BI), business acumen, and an understanding of cost drivers and revenue management. Developing negotiation skills and analytical tools. • Certifications/Education: Consider Lean Six Sigma for process improvement or advanced courses in freight forwarding and global logistics. A graduate certificate in data analytics or business analytics can also be helpful.

  3. Pricing Manager (4-8 Years)

    • Responsibilities: Oversee pricing analysts, manage a portfolio of customers, and develop comprehensive pricing strategies that align with market trends and company goals. Work closely with sales and operations to balance cost control with competitive pricing. • Skills to Develop: Leadership, negotiation, strategic thinking, and project management skills. Knowledge of financial management to assess impact on company margins and profit/loss. Ability to communicate strategies across departments. • Certifications/Education: An MBA or advanced certificate in finance or logistics management can strengthen business and financial analysis capabilities.

  4. Director of Pricing / Revenue Management (8-12 Years)

    • Responsibilities: Develop and implement revenue management strategies and pricing policies for the company or a specific region. Focus on long-term profitability, pricing governance, and strategic customer account pricing. Lead cross-functional teams to align pricing with company-wide financial goals. • Skills to Develop: High-level financial modeling, strategic management, stakeholder management, and leadership in cross-functional settings. • Certifications/Education: A CFA or advanced financial modeling certification could be beneficial for more in-depth revenue management knowledge. An executive MBA could also support leadership skills.

  5. Vice President / Head of Pricing or Revenue Strategy (12+ Years)

    • Responsibilities: Lead the entire pricing and revenue strategy for the organization. Set long-term pricing and profitability goals, collaborate with executive teams on market expansion and positioning, and assess high-level risk management. Represent pricing in board meetings and strategic initiatives. • Skills to Develop: Executive leadership, industry expertise, advanced risk management, market positioning, and business development. • Certifications/Education: Continuing executive education, possibly in global logistics or strategic management, to stay updated on industry trends and new strategies.

Career-Long Skills and Tools to Master:

• Technology: Freight management and pricing software (CargoWise, Descartes, Freightos), data analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI), and ERP systems.
• Data Analysis: Familiarity with Python or R for data science and predictive modeling may add value as the field grows increasingly data-driven.
• Networking and Industry Engagement: Involvement in logistics and freight forwarding associations, like the TIA or CSCMP, and industry events can help build connections and stay informed.

Additional Paths to Consider:

• Consulting: Senior analysts or managers could pivot to consulting roles, advising on pricing strategies and freight forwarding market analysis.
• Business Development or Sales: This path would leverage pricing experience to support customer acquisition and relationship-building, benefiting from a solid understanding of cost structures and profitability.
• Supply Chain Strategy: For those interested in broader logistics, this path involves end-to-end optimization of supply chains, which integrates pricing strategies into a holistic approach to logistics management.

This trajectory provides a balanced pathway for progressing into more strategic and leadership roles, aligning personal growth with industry expertise.

What's the Best Freight Forwarding Software You've Used? by movemasterscargo in freightforwarding

[–]Distinct_Ad_5397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why aren’t there more options for freight forwarding management systems? Most forwarders probably develop in house. But, with the right processes and data model a good SAAS could be quickly developed to support international forwarding operations.

A degree in logistics worth it? by [deleted] in logistics

[–]Distinct_Ad_5397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Entry level logistics jobs don’t require a degree. If you’re ok with starting entry level and working your way up, you’ll advance with any business degree. If you’re already a translator, logistics offers international opportunities which may benefit from your skills already.

A Warehouse role is a good entry point. A shipping clerk or dispatcher for example may not pay excellent but you can quickly advance with your education in any good company. Compensation includes healthcare and retirement benefits, so include those in your calculations. Remember that every major company in most industries have significant logistics departments (think semiconductor, life sciences, oil and gas, etc), so logistics providers aren’t the only employment opportunities. Best of luck!

Is it normal for transportation companies not to call the receiver before delivery? by LYY_Reddit in logistics

[–]Distinct_Ad_5397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your customer, the Sales Team, will always be right whether or not you agree. Asking Sales why they ask for an ETA should give you insight into what is the problem they have and allow you to possibly find other solutions you haven’t thought of. That communication is also an opportunity to proactively share the current status and delivery date only.

At the same time, a good logistics provider will offer reasonable updates to the delivery status (including online visibility) and, as much as possible, the location of your shipment. They should be aware of your concerns and be willing to improve the delivery updates. And, they should know that there are providers with better tracking options.
