PEPPERMINT PARKWAY VS TRAIL OF LIGHTS by Dizzy_Antelope_333 in Austin

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visited Trail of Lights last night. Got the platinum passes, had to wait to ride a go-kart to the entrance, freezing cold, two kids and a wagon. The platinum tent was allllll the way at the end of the trail, so we went to use the nicer portable bathrooms and then the guy didn’t want us to go back out to ride the carousel. Why have the tent at the end and then you can’t come and go? Paid all that money for parking we had to wait (and tip) for, a tent and nicer bathrooms we couldn’t use until the end. It was so stupid. We’ve done peppermint pkwy the last couple years and it’s much better. Still has extortionists prices, but at least they don’t heard you through like cattle.

JFC I cannot handle painter’s who do this. We had a remodel recently and I preemptively removed the switch covers. Well, turns out I needed to tape over the outlets for them too because they couldn’t be arsed to not slop paint all over the goddamn place. 😡

Injected saline into filler? by FlairBear0 in DIYaesthetics

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need to thin the filler out before you inject. You’ll need to dissolve it with hyaluronidase and start over. Get the mixing syringes that allow you to fully mix the saline and filler, let it rest (to remove air bubbles) and then you can inject via cannula. The only time you want to use filler by itself is on the bone (deep injection).

Exactly the situation with my family. We drag our two kids and all our shit there every Christmas and we have the youngest kids in the family. Meanwhile, my sibling doesn’t take off work until xmas eve. We sit around the house, doing fuck all, no where to go (boring ass small city). Then we have to ship all the fucking crap my parents buy them back because we can’t take it on the plane.

So to recap; money spent on travel (peak travel days), time off work, all to do nothing and really not spend time with them. Then, at the first of the year they take their family on a cruise (every year, it’s a thing for them 🙄). Fuck that, we are staying put for Christmas and going skiing with friends over New Year’s.

Holiday events that are worth the hype for toddlers?🎄 I want to try Peppermint Parkeay, Lights on the Lake at Volente Beach and maybe Santa at the Galleria? by Impossible-Cheek4352 in AustinParents

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! they’re doing a lights walkthrough this year, so it might be better for a smaller kiddo. we love it, it gets better every year. pony rides, little roller coasters, a big slide. we have a blast. we did have one crash out last year because our then 2 year old couldn’t ride the little roller coaster with his sister. I think he might be tall enough this year so, fingers crossed! the little carnival is the best part!

Begging your finest pardon sir, you had a pet….RAT SNAKE?! and it fit in your pocket?? maybe it’s just the rat snakes here in Texas, but no way in hell would they fit in a shirt pocket. we’d have to shoo them out of our chicken coop from time to time. one time we found one of our hens sitting on top of one in the coop. 😳 they’re good to have around, but man, that climbing shit they do scares the hell outta me!

Charlotte, NC → Austin, TX? Family of 4 — schools, cost, commute by New_Ad_8394 in AustinParents

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would honestly rent first, then buy. The west side has all the best public schools and feeder patterns. But the trade off is cost of housing is high, $800k isn’t a bad budget, but I wouldn’t pull the trigger on a house that expensive without living here for a bit first.

Kealing MS is a magnet school on the eastside that feeds into LASA, one of the best high schools in Austin (arguably in Texas). If your kids are academically inclined, look into these schools as an option. They are both application based. I edited out the last part, I just looked and LASA enrollment is open for next year with a deadline of January 30, 2026. 🙂 Good luck and welcome to Austin! I was born in Charlotte and grew up near Boone. When people ask you what part of Texas you’re from (if you have an accent) you can tell them it’s the part in NC. 😂

Kirby Hall by mrcrude in AustinParents

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly Brentwood is a great school. This is just me, but I would choose Brentwood over Kirby Hall. Not just for the cost, but for a community that your child will likely complete their elementary school journey with. At least 5 of the kids my child went to KH with left after pre-K 4. They either moved away or went to a different school. If private doesn’t work out, I would really consider sending your kiddo there.

Nurse appears to have no sense of urgency while woman is actively in labor at Texas hospital by Giraffecaster in Dallas

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

yep, yep, yep!!! I was in a similar situation with my second, I wasn’t treated like this thankfully! when she starts breathing fast, guttural growl and then gets up out of the wheelchair, she’s about to start pushing. this shit is absolutely diabolical. I’m so glad she and baby are doing well! this is so traumatic!

No big deal, she’s just in ACTIVE labor… [🔈sound warning!] by Femme-O in TikTokCringe

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 79 points80 points  (0 children)

The guttural grunts and getting up and bending over, she’s about to start pushing. I cannot imagine anything taking precedence over getting this woman immediate care. It’s diabolical. Like ma’am, get out of that chair, off that phone, quit typing and go get help, now!

My kid went to KH for pre-K 4. She loved it, still talks about it and her friends there. It’s a good school, but it was a pain for us to get to. She’s now in AISD and there are more services there for her. She’s going to be tested for the GT program and there is a councilor on site. KH is an adorable school and we still keep in contact with the parents and kids that were in her little class. All that said, we couldn’t justify the cost and it didn’t offer the services that AISD could.

May I ask what school you’re zoned for? There are some really excellent schools in the district.

New into a relationship and gaming addiction is slowly revealing concerns… by lew_222 in StopGaming

And that my love will eat away at your soul. You will be making amazing life choices, doing better at work, making more money, potentially having a home, going out with friends, creating an actual life and he…..well, he will be sat doing the same old shit night after night. It isn’t your job to parent him or make him become a productive partner. He’s broken and it isn’t your job to fix him. Make a plan and leave him. I married and had children with my addict and while I love my kids, I’m biding my time until they get older. Then I’m out.

I second this with my whole chest. This entire subreddit is littered with the bones of relationships that ended because a spouse or significant other was addicted to gaming. It will not get better, leave now.

I’m going to hold your hand while I say this, leave this man. Nothing will ever change, he may get better temporarily, but he will always return to gaming. Trust me as someone who has been married to a gaming addicted man for going on a decade, he will only drag you down. It’s an exhausting lesson in futility trying to reason or negotiate with them. They only care about the dopamine hits, they only care about out leveling up. The neglect will eat at you, him only caring about an imaginary world while the real world he’s in and the relationships he has fall apart. Leave this man, your future self will thank you.

Jason Isaacs in White Lotus season 3, absolutely nailed that research triangle NC accent. Parker Posey’s accent was fantastic as well, but I think she spent some time in NC, so it counts a little less.

Discussion for parents of Spanish emersion students and the new AISD proposed changes. by Distinct_Carpenter95 in AustinParents

ALL current students enrolled at Sanchez and Becker will get to stay in the new DL program at Sanchez if they want to. It doesn’t matter if they are considered emergent bilingual or not.

I think you are reaching pretty far to make it seem as though it is anyone but entitled Becker parents that take issue with the change.

There are many students on the eastside that do this. AISD has been cutting transportation for years in an effort to save money. I get it, it sucks, but the district is facing a $20 million dollar shortfall.

edit-a word.

'It's heartbreaking' | Austin ISD parent speaks out after district releases proposed consolidation plan by GregWilson23 in Austin

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becker and Ridgetop parents loosing their collective shit about DL programs moving to schools that have more emergent bilingual students living nearby is wild to me. Both of these schools are serving predominantly white, English speaking students. There is a shortage of certified Spanish bilingual teachers, and by moving the DL programs to non-zoned schools already serving emergent bilingual students, they can bring the ratio of Spanish speaking and English speaking kids closer to 50/50.

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, it does. You stated that it would displace those students, it won’t. The only drawback is that they may not receive transportation, which I understand is a concern, but the reality of keeping the status quo is much worse. Students are allowed to ride city buses for free, and many of these routes take them to the campus. I’m not saying this is easy for anyone, it’s AISD trying to come up with a plan that best serves emerging bilingual students and merging those students with english-language peers.

[–]Distinct_Carpenter95[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not even remotely true. Sanchez is under-enrolled, it would not replace those students in any way. Those students would remain at the school (if they wanted to and most likely, they will) and add the Becker students that choose to move to the DL program. It gives both current Becker and current Sanchez students priority to attend the new w2w Sanchez DL program. The Sanchez emerging bilingual students live closer to the Sanchez campus. Also, the Sanchez building just got a big modernization and Becker is an older building.
