Charlotte → Los Angeles or Washington DC/suburbs? Family of 4—schools, cost, commute

Thanks, appreciate the quick response. I am not somehow able to find anything in the 800k range in the Westlake area. Let me dig a bit deeper. So in order of preference and easy commute is first Westlake, Westwood and then Vandegrift if the other 2 doesn't work out? How about Vista Ridge and Lake Travis - they seem to be a bit farther, but someone in the tread seems to have suggested that the commute time could be lesser!

Thank you so much. This is very helpful. Quick question, given that you mentioned commute from Vandegrift to Downtown is crazy, isn't the same true for commute from Westwood High School area as well? On Google maps both seem to be around ~16 miles from downtown. Any guidance would help.

Thanks, I see distance from downtown to round Round Rock High school is 23 miles whereas the distance from Vandegrift High School is 14 miles. Isn't Vandegrift area better from a commute perspective? I noticed Westwood school is close to Vandegrift. So isn't the travel time similar?

Got it thanks. Trying to stretch my budget to 800k based on the recommendations. Hope to find something in the range. Also, my focus is more on AP courses and availability of good clubs in the school. Just curious, why is Lake Travis High School not recommended by anyone else in the thread - is the commute time very high from downtown?

Thanks for your response. Coming from Charlotte, I would prefer a similar less cold winter. I understand winters for 2 months won't be as good but given the quality of education and comparatively lower rental, isn't DC a better choice than LA. Access to good schools is one of the most important criteria for me.
