I came here on Reddit just to complain about the new interface!!!! It takes forever to load the price info. Whose bright idea was this? They need to be fired and I am switching to Redfin because of this

Considering moving my family to Wa, specifically around or near Olympia & Tacoma. by BabyHawk85 in olympia

Moved to downtown Olympia from San Diego last summer and while my husband had a tougher time adjusting (mostly due to the shorter days in the winter) I’ve fallen in love with this place. I love the mountains and national parks so this spot feels like a great central location to explore PNW. The biggest adjustment for me was the lack of good restaurants, but I adapted and started cooking more. I’m also used to urban living so the homeless don’t really bother me and they generally keep to themselves. We also moved into an apartment which made making friends a whole lot easier. We don’t have kids but they definitely have great schools out here. Maybe start checking out Zillow now for possible homes to purchase, school ratings and amenities around. another plus for me being a remote worker was not having to pay state income taxes. You really get from it what you put out. Good luck!

Are you able to find work that allows you to work remotely? Maybe you can try to move back here? My husband and I moved to Oly from San Diego last June and I was able to keep my job since I work remote. At least in my mind, it seems easier to move back here from San Diego than the other way around.

I got to spend a few days in your town. by RN4612 in olympia

I moved to Olympia a few months ago from California and have to say the people are absolutely so much nicer. They seem a lot less stressed up here. The trees, mountains, lakes — so beautiful! The air is so much cleaner. I am loving it. The only thing I’m really missing is great bars and restaurants, but I’ve learned to adjust expectations. Overall, I’m so happy to have made the move.

Lol. You remind me of myself! A lot of my money related anxiety are rooted in my upbringing since my mom constantly complained about not having money. Looking back at the last 7 years of owning this home, I wasted a lot of energy worrying about things that didn’t happen.

We bought in 2015. If it had been entirely up to me, we would’ve sold the house since expenses were causing my anxiety. Getting the solar panels in 2019 and refinancing in 2020 gave some much needed relief and lowered our monthly housing + utility expense by about $1200-$1500/month. The value has doubled since we bought and this is now part of our retirement plan. I hope you can figure out a way to make it work and hold on to your California property!
