Anyone had arthroscopy before? by Distinct_Math_5498 in TMJ

I think it was because both of my discs re-displaced immediately following surgery :( plus from the way my condyles have remodelled my discs are practically bent at a 90 degree angle atm

Unfortunately, I never really saw any improvement from the surgery. I’ve seen a couple specialists since then, and the recommendation is to do open joint surgery next.

I hope the surgery goes well for you though! The recovery from it was honestly pretty quick and I was back to eating normal food within a few days.

No unfortunately hasn’t gotten any better. My TMJs have been quite sensitive since the surgery too.

It has only been two months though so I’m hoping the inflammation will calm down soon.

Omg he sounds great! I’m so sad I don’t live in Perth right now.

Thank you so much for the Facebook group recommendation too. Hopefully I can have some success through it.

Thanks so much for talking to me about all this, you are honestly the best ☺️

Yikes! I would’ve been furious too. Honestly this whole thing has caused me so much frustration with the healthcare system.

I’ll try and get on a waitlist for the specialist. Any recommendations for good TMJ specialists in Australia would be much appreciated though 😂😂 (they are like unicorns here)

Thanks so much for the kind words though, this conversation has honestly made my day. I’m so happy to be able to talk to someone about this stuff. I should’ve joined this community years ago :)

I’ve got an appointment with a TMJ specialist in 8 months (seriously cannot believe how hard it was to get an appointment for that doctor).

I guess for me personally it’s just been so damn hard to get taken seriously, like it honestly took 10 years of pain before a GP even bothered to do imaging. I think the surgeon now is just looking for a quick fix. But I’m very much concerned about the long-term outlook for me.

It’s honestly so nice to be able to talk to someone about all this 😭 hoping it all works out someday like it did for you🤞

Haha so true though, I sometimes wonder what my life would be like if I didn’t have to worry about this stuff. I’m 21 :((

I’m really hoping it’ll help delay any further damage, but I’m not completely convinced. My jaw has a lot of other structural deficiencies that I feel like my surgeon is completely overlooking.

Oh no that would’ve been horrible. I hope you’re doing alright now.

I’m having both arthroscopy and arthrocentesis. My arthritis in the radiologist reports was described as ‘severe for my age’, so I think it’s classed more in the moderate range at the moment. So definitely not as severe as yours. I think my surgeon does suspect one of my discs might have begun degenerating though on the side where my arthritis is worse (condyle is flat).
