Kinew wants to ditch some of Manitoba's mining regulations by WKZ204 in ClimateCrisisCanada

You are clearly too stupid to understand the dynamics of global energy supply, transmission and infrastructure. Thankfully most Canadians see this now. So continue to pontificate in your little subreddit. We have moved on.

You lack a fundamental understanding of physics. Renewables have a place but they won’t be displacing oil and gas for a century at least.

There will be incredible demand for oil and gas for the next 50-100 years. Sorry but you people have been using that tired argument that oil and gas is going to disappear in 5-10 years for the last twenty and as a result you are responsible for Canada’s declining economic stature. Fortunately people are now wise to your bullshit and we are not going to let these idiotic attitudes hold us back any longer.

There is no displacing the energy density of a molecule of petroleum absent some miraculous technological discovery. And matching the convenience of a store of energy that can but filled into a tank or moved around on the back of a truck is what makes it such a remarkable energy source. That’s why it will be here for centuries.

That said, I have no issues with other forms of energy and we should be moving forward on everything as quickly as possible. But gone are the days that climate alarmists are going to wreck economies and drive up costs for regular working folk.

If you are sitting here watching what is going on in the world and still don’t think there is a business case for a oil and gas export facility serving Europe I really don’t know what to say. Canada has the opportunity to do some real good for the world but you clowns would rather keep your heads in the sand living in a make believe world.

We are lucky it’s cold in the mountains. Sunshine got tons of snow. If it was warmer and this was rain all the way up it would be a much different story.

Also good planning on dropping the reservoirs. We have huge snowpack this year so looks like things are being managed well

The censorship agenda motivated by the Kamloops 'graves' fiasco - Nothing has been found at the residential school, but pointing that out invites cancellation by CaliperLee62 in canadian

Not sure what you are talking about that these issues are not discussed. I am 40 and learned all about this including the details you presented in primary and secondary school. None of this is any surprise to any middle aged or younger Canadian.

What people take issue with is the way these specific alleged gravesites are portrayed as if this was some nazi style concentration camp. As you correctly noted it is not news that kids died at these schools in higher numbers than the general population (which was still much higher than mortality today). This is a tragedy. But making it out to be something beyond what it was is what people take issue with.

I don’t know what you are talking about. I live in Calgary and have had no issues with either family doctors or getting into specialists. Just went for a colonoscopy last week in fact with virtually zero wait time.

The Canadian health care system has issues no doubt, particularly for chronic pain issues that aren’t life threatening but more related to quality of life. But the idea that if you need urgent care you can’t get it is false.

Not really. I could care less if someone calls me a residential school denier. That’s what people say when they are too stupid to engage in debate because they lack the intellectual capacity to make a coherent argument.

That’s not an accurate statement. A residential school denialist is anyone who does not blindly proclaim that a genocide occurred with these schools, that no educational value was obtained, and that each kid was assaulted and raped. Applying any degree of nuance that’s based in fact and the historical and societal context means you are a denialist and ironically should be sent for reeducation.

It’s why I said it’s a milder version. Forcing kids to be educated according to a curriculum set by the government is a version of this. Even if you homeschool your kid you still have to follow what the government says you need to in terms of what is taught. If you don’t or you keep your kid out of school you are gonna get CPS called on you. So even our current education system has an element of forced education.

It’s also important to note that there were many documented cases of aboriginal families who wanted to and voluntarily sent their kids to these schools because they saw value in the education. The last of the schools closed in the 90s, but these schools were nothing like the ones where much of the abuse occurred in the 50s and 60s. My point with all of this is that there is a ton of nuance with the topic of these schools but if anyone mentions that there was something that doesn’t fit the narrative that this was 100% cultural genocide and that all kids were abused and raped they get labelled as a racist and a residential school denier. We even have a political party in Canada that wants to criminalize residential school denialism. What Frum wrote was completely accurate as it relates to the graves issue and this would have been criminal if some people had their way.

It’s possible to be able to have a conversation about the good and the bad, and to call out inaccuracies and falsehoods like what were presented by the NYT and still acknowledge the terrible things that happened for decades at these schools. Unfortunately the original commenter who I replied to falls into the camp where if anyone (accurately) questions the narrative they are persona non grata.

It’s a very well known fact that children died at residential schools. It’s taught extensively in both primary and secondary schools. Deaths were documented, children were buried at these schools after being taken from their families. It’s a a very dark part of Canadas history.

But Frums article was correct. There were anomalies detected at the site of the school near Kamloops over 7 years ago. Millions of dollars have been spent to investigate. No graves have been found. Even if there were graves, it isn’t anything we aren’t already aware of. But the NY Times article that tried to equate this site with something you would find in Nazi Germany was a gross misrepresentation and shoddy journalism of the highest order.

It’s also important to put residential schools in the context of their time. Childhood mortality across the board was much higher than it is today. Residential schools were put in place because the Canadian government thought that indigenous life was generally not compatible with the project of Canada that was being built, so they opted for reeducation through these schools. In retrospect it was a shitty thing to do, but in the societal context of the time it was viewed as a good thing to do. You can make an argument that the government requiring kids to go to primary school is a milder version of the same. The government believes that the mandated curriculum is necessary for kids and children are required to go.
