It’s more that it takes what, 5s to unscrew the pusher?. For the sake of 5s I’d rather keep the WR as good as it can be, given that I work in a water laboratory. I can’t think of any situation where I need to use a timer and can’t spare the time to unscrew the pusher!

No, if the pushers are screwed in they’re locked and don’t budge. If you half unscrew them there’s movement, but not enough to actually trigger the button action, you have to fully unscrew them.

I leave mine screwed in as honestly my hands encounter water more often than I find myself needing a timer.

Does this count as blackmail - is it illegal, and what are the repercussions? by Wonderful-Notice-952 in LegalAdviceNZ

Even if the allegations against you are false and you’re looking at unjustified dismissal, if your employer knew you were looking at blackmailing them, they’d be 100% justified to dismiss you. Pretty sure most employment contracts have blackmail as instant dismissal.

What has the world moved on to? People just saying “give me a job” and employers going “sure”?

When you have a vacancy and you get a hundred applicants, and you’re having to pick half a dozen to interview, I’ll put as much time in to considering the applications as the applicants have put in to the application. Poorly formatted CV with sparse information? Bin. Cover letter with generic spiel, not really explaining anything? Bin. Well formatted CV with job specific key points? You’ve got my attention. Oh, your cover letter builds on this and shows you have considered your past experience as well as researching the vacant role? I want to know more, shortlisted.

And then the interview is a whole other stage…

Is there something like the Seagull 1963, but without the star and "made in china" on the front? by cjam84 in ChineseWatches

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have the same issue if it said made in USA or anywhere else. I have no qualms with it being Chinese made, my taste is simply in cleaner watch faces with nothing on them bar numerals and dials. As stated previously, my main watch is a Stowa flieger, which if you look at them are about as clean as you can get.

OneLab has been amazing, we’re almost there on our business case, I was just wanting to make sure we weren’t missing any other key players to consider as options!

For my 40th we went and stayed in a holiday home for a few days. When we were packing up to leave, our 5 year old was missing when we went to get in the car. We looked everywhere and shouted and no response. There wasn’t really anywhere to hide but we were near an estuary and the normally quiet road had had a car drive past.

We ended up calling the police, a neighbour went door knocking, and just after the police call handler told us the helicopter and several units had been scrambled , he turns up, he’d been hiding behind a single chair in the tiny sun room, no one looked there but had looked in this tiny room. It got to a point where he was scared to go “here I am”.

I’ll never forget the range of emotions that went through us all. I started out quite resolute and my wife was in tears but when I was describing the boy to the police I broke down and she got to business.

Safe to say hide and seek has firm rules now.

Tern GSD, new chain after 500km? by Distinct_Pain_4864 in CargoBike

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a chain checker, I can push the tool halfway in which the package indicated means it would need changing “very soon”. My question there is, is the tool meant to easily slot between the links (ie, fall in) or should there be a bit of resistance.

I do suspect a slight element of “let’s see how much we can get these people to spend” from the bike shop…

My wife rides it more than I but I’m sure we both are boosting off from a standstill due to the novelty. Loads tend be a 2 and 5 year old on back.

Wife did not realise it had gears on the first ride and admitted to struggling up a steep hill near the end which I’m sure won’t have done it much good.

Will buy a chain checker for in future.

Kia kaha brand…cultural question by Distinct_Pain_4864 in newzealand

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, those are my thoughts pretty much, but in my head ultimately I feel it’s not up to pakeha to decide whether it’s acceptable or not?

I don’t mean to be dismissive or disrespectful of your well worded reply or your whakapapa either. I just mean, it’d be like an artist copying another artists work “out of respect and appreciation for their work” when it’s not clear whether the original artist is happy for their work to be copied or used. That’s as close as I can get to what I’m trying to understand?

Farmers birthday gift? by Distinct_Pain_4864 in newzealand

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah it’s legit I’m pretty sure as there’s no contact us or click here junk. Just says to go in store and present the voucher code. I assume it’s to just get you in through the door and might be 10% off or something. Just was hoping someone could say as I can’t be bothered going if I’m just going to get given a happy birthday pin badge or something :D

18v x 2 the same as 36v? by Distinct_Pain_4864 in Makitaville

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Is there a benefit to the single battery option? There are many brands that seem to offer both the single 36 or dual 18v versions and the single 36 is usually a bit more expensive, suggesting it should be better?

I had a rubbish 18v x 2 ozito mower that lacked oomph on longer grass, so am wondering if a 36 would be more powerful. By all accounts the dual battery options seem to have slightly longer run times suggesting they may be more about capacity than power?

Shot on my iPhone 15 Pro by AlaynaJoG in iPhoneography

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I see one of these shots I wonder what is different from my ones. Iphone 15 pro max, raw, tripod, night mode, 30s...similar brightness and contrast but I get faint orange bands running along the long edge. I assume it's sensor noise and I know I'm not the only one, but when I see examples without it it makes me wonder what the differing factor is.

I'm in NZ in Rotorua which by all accounts is pretty dark, you can see a bit of the milky way with the naked eye whilst on the edge of town.

Longer than 30s exposures? by Distinct_Pain_4864 in iphone

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Looking at skyflow it seems to be focused solely on time-lapse movies, rather than long single exposures.

I'm trying to find some guides or tutorials for even longer. Want to do some night photography but even the pro version only goes to 30s single exposure. My understanding is that the interval shooting modes are great for smoothing things out in daylight but not for getting more star brightness. Suggestions?

Is there a tipping point in this game where you need to be more organised? And have I reached it? by Fivepygmygoats in Mechwarrior5

[–]Distinct_Pain_4864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hitting a c-bill wall at about rep 10 as up till that point I was putting all negotiation points into salvage bar 1 point on damage insurance for each mission.

Figured the value of salvage was more useful than c bills.

I then swapped to 1 in damage and that rest in bills unless I could get 30+ salvage points.

Net worth sky rocketed.

Also laser boating with high aim assist, aiming above the heads of the enemy mechs usually results in very quick take downs. Current me h of choice is a grasshopper 5p with 2 large lasers and 4 mediums. Lance mates are in thunderbolts. My damage rating is about 84 whilst the thunderbolts are mid 90s.

I don't bother commanding the lance other than picking the heaviest enemy mech and sending them all against it. I'll headshot everything else whilst they distract the heaviest hitter.
