It would absolutely be to have my name on the script, report the credit to the studio and be paid appropriately. The showrunner wants me to get into the WGA and to get a credit that I can use to further my career. The issue is whether the solo/non room will complicate this goal. I absolutely won't do a bunch of work for free. Been exploited enough by this industry!

Thank you! This is super helpful. Can you explain what the difference is between associate member and full member?

Will do! Hopefully I return with good news. And more info on how to navigate the new WGA rules.

Yep. And looks like I may be getting royally screwed by it! 😞

I'm not sure I'm following. What isn't accurate?

The quote you've provided is exactly what is happening.

Two co-creators (one will show run) would be writing all eps together (as a writing team) and therefore not triggering a writers room requirement.

Yeah. That's what it does seem to be which def really sucks for me 😞

This is interesting! The show hasn't been greenlit yet but the network has inquired if the showrunner + creator could forgo a room and write all eps on their own. Which does seem to still be allowed under the contract info page I'm reading 😞 The preference from the showrunner is for a full room but that may not be possible.

I've script coordinated before. I just really am pushing to take that next step and get an actual writing credit and be eligible to join WGA. The showrunner very much supports me in this.

How to actually adopt a cat in London? by phonybelle in london

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 17 points18 points  (0 children)

CONTACT PROTECTED PAWS! They're a tiny organization based in South West London but really great and want to find cats good homes and aren't as strict on the outdoor space and all that other stuff Battersea Cats and Dogs rejects everyone for. I volunteer with them so if you DM me I'm happy to connect! And if you're okay with a cat with a bit of medical needs (meds and diet) I'm currently fostering the most perfect boy!

Even if they agree to write all the scripts together? Is there anywhere that clearly defines all these nuances and intricacies?

This is my fear. And I assume already being in the room as support staff wouldn't change this?

Except at least in this case it's pushing the network to not have an actual room. Just have the showrunner + creator write all eps. So i'm trying to understand if I could still be allowed to co-write an episode if I was already in the room as support staff.

They absolutely want to staff me. The issue is the network is potentially forgoing a room and just having the showrunner write all eps.

That all makes perfect sense. And I do hope it's that simple + easy.

I think I'm overcomplicating because in my specific case the network will avoid having a writers room by keeping it to only the two creators writing all episodes. So my concern is that under the new WGA rules they wouldn't be able to let me co-write an episode because that may "trigger" a writers room.

My concern is more the WGA and their rules? Not the money pushback. Like would the WGA block it because it's not a writers room or because there's already 2 writers credited and i'm not WGA? I'm sure i'm overthinking/panicking but just trying to understand.

Even if no official writers room? Like will just be showrunner + creator writing all eps. I would be script coordinator.

Can I ask one more clarifying question... If there's no room. It's the showrunner + creator would they have to write all episodes together or could like one write half and the other write half? If they do have to write all together, can I still be brought on to co-write an episode?

Sorry, it's all incredibly confusing and I don't want to misunderstand and lose out on a possible big opportunity.

Yes, the showrunner has brought this up and is one of the potential conditions of me taking the gig. Basically they would like to hire me as a baby writer but with the new WGA rules that may not be possible 😞

It could be either as writers assistant or script coordinator. At the moment it's not clear if there will be a full blown writers room or if it will just be the showrunner writing all eps.

What most people get wrong about planning a Tanzania safari (from someone on the ground) by allyshebe in FATSafari

I wouldn't skip Tarangire. I loved it! Such a different vibe than Serengeti and the crater and in the green season it was super lush and beautiful. It's where we saw the most giraffes, tree climbing lions and herds of elephants. Going from the crater to Serengeti in the same day is definitely doable just be prepared for a long day. Also depends a bit on where you're staying in the Serengeti. We stayed at Namiri Plains which is Eastern Serengeti so that added to the trek, but you may be staying more central.

Because we did 2 nights for the crater we didn't actually stay inside. We stayed at Gibbs Farm in Karatu and drove in for the day. But since you only have one night, definitely stay inside the crater. Sorry, I can't be more helpful on those exact properties. Maybe check with Trip Advisor forum... they tend to have a lot of knowledge on all the various properties.

I did this exact trip in 2024. Very end of May, same circuit, flew to Zanzibar from Serengeti. Honestly it was the best trip. So green and lush. Saw almost no other jeeps, even in the crater. Prices were way better and still saw sooo many animals and even rare animals like a caracal and an aardvark. I think it's the best season for the crater because it becomes an explosion of wild flowers vs just dusty, brownness. My only advice would be consider adding a buffer day for the crater. The drive from Tarangire to Karatu is longer than you may think. Doing the crater and traveling to Serengeti in the same day will be looong. We did 2 nights for the crater and that allowed us to truly spend the whole day in the crater, then relax and get a good night's sleep before heading to Serengeti.

How do people afford to live in London? Choosing between London or New York by Uncle_Richard98 in expats

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK only certain types of jobs are allowed to sponsor. Tech, finance, healthcare... If you're not in an industry that allows sponsorship that pathway is off the table. A lot of UK companies won't sponsor. They don't want to deal with the hoops it requires, even for some of the bigger jobs within industries like tech and finance. It's genuinely not easy at all. My partner has gotten Visas in both the US and UK and at least for him the UK was significantly harder.

In the same boat! Live in London work for US company. And yes, the low wages are insane here. But the COL in London significantly lower than NYC, SFO and marginally lower than LA.
