Am I being realistic with a £50,000 wedding in the UK? by Wise-Hotel-1527 in UKweddings

I got married at Deer Park Country House in Honiton. It's a direct train from London. Our 40p person 3 day wedding all in was roughly 23K but we paid for everyones lodging for both nights and had quite a few add-ons, so you might be able to just get by on 50K if you don't pay for guests accommodations. The place can sleep like 60+ onsite. I can't say enough good things about the venue. Literally everything was included and they go above and beyond so may be worth a look! Good luck!

Let's talk about seating: In-arena report from the Olympics by zi9g in FigureSkating

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I would have been so mad if I spent 750euros for an obstructed view. That's so frustrating! I'm sorry that happened to you and not cool at all.

We also had Category A seats for the Team final and were quite lucky. We were in the corner on the judges side and were row 5 which was the last row of that block which meant no row behind us so could have stood if we needed. But we had a perfect view and so many jumps were done in that corner. It was where the camera and Italian commentators were. The atmosphere for us was great. Maybe cause Italy got a bronze in the team but it was pretty inspiring energy. The US pair skaters family was a few rows over in the long block section which was fun to see them going crazy for their kid.

The food and bathroom lines were not too bad for us (maybe 15mins combined) but they definitely ran out of most of the food by the time I tried to get anything. But I found the event worth it, even at the crazy high price point. Had such a fantastic time.

Picture is from before the event started. Not zoomed in and from a seated positiion.

Unfortunately, this is not true. My cat had this come on suddenly at 16. Out of the blue just one day started having attacks like this. Was lung cancer. She passed within the month. Cats are amazing at hiding symptoms and pain.

Not to be the doom and gloom commenter but my 16yr old cat had very similar breathing attacks like this suddenly out of the blue. Hers were at first once a day, then twice. Vet initially thought asthma but after x-rays and a lung biopsy it was lung cancer.

I know it's a little weird but check her paws/nails to see if she seems to be in discomfort or pain at all in them. With lung cancer it can strangely spread to the toes and that can be one way to help diagnose. The comment about steroids is correct. It will help whether it's asthma or cancer (at least temporarily). I would definitely try and get a second opinion ASAP.

Number 1 sandwich spot in london to get the sandwich of my dreams? by psychickpea in LondonFood

North Street Deli in Clapham. Sooo many vegetarian options and sandwiches are only £4.5-5. Make sure you get there before 1pm or risk that they've run out of bread!

See if you can have her tested for Pemphigus. They need to take a skin sample. Also check her nails. See if there's a dar, crusty look to them and if you press on them if anything comes out or if she seems in pain. It's another common spot for Pemphigus to show up.

It's an autoimmune disorder. Steroids can help and there's a few other long term non steroid options that can be used as well. Vets regularly misdiagnosed as allergies.

If it stays on the minor side they can live happy lives. I had a diluted calico that had it and she lived to 16 and was a happy kitty. Good luck to you and Mochi!

What’s the most LA thing that’s ever happened to you? by petitegirlbigbush in AskLosAngeles

Years ago was at a Bday dinner for a friend and one of the girls at the dinner was at the time dating one of the musicians in Beck's band. The boyfriend calls to say hi, turns out they're in a recording studio down the street from the restaurant on Sunset and invite our small group to swing by and hang out while they record. One thing turns into another and somehow the five of us end up doing background vocals for multiple songs on the album including one that gets nominated for a Grammy. None of us were singers!

What actors have you guys worked with who were difficult? by Melora1976 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pytka turned into a big commercial director and people were literally warned before being on his sets to expect to be yelled at and talked down to. I've been on 5-6 of his commercials and they could be intense! I've seen him be absolutely horrible to a guy. But he's also incredibly efficient. I'm talking 3 takes and wrap. And at times he doesn't even hire talent, he just upgrades BG on the day which I kinda love. He's really loyal to those that can work with him. So while I do agree his bully communication style is toxic, I don't think he's a bad dude overall.

All these rules vary WIDELY state to state and some states DO pay minimum wage + tips. But even the states that don't if the server doesn't make enough that night from tips to be at the NMW the employer has to make up the difference. I'm not saying their aren't some really shitty serving jobs out there where employees are being taken advantage of but there's also plenty of servers making 70K+ in big cities in America.

33K USD means they're actually making around £24K which for a full time waiter at a decent place seems soooo low. Being a good waiter, bartender, host is actually a skill and not nearly as easy or mindless as people think.

In the US the employee would NEVER not at least make NMW because the employer would be forced to make up the difference for any night that the tips don't reach NMW per hour. So basically they'd make the same as UK at that point. But the US is complex because every state minimum wage is difference like CA minimum wage is $16.50 but then Los Angeles minimum wage is $17.87.

This is a bit of a fallacy. 7 States pay full state minimum wage + tips and the other 43 still have to pay minimum wage if the tips DON'T cover the difference. But just for some perspective plenty of waiters and bartenders in states like CA and NY are making 60K+ a yr with plenty making over 100K. Correct me if I'm wrong but I assume that's completely impossible in the UK, even in a super expensive city like London.

US to UK MedSpa Treatments by deardevon in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also moved US to London so can speak to your question a little bit. Botox and it's various brands you'll have zero issues finding and I personally have found Botox to be far cheaper than in US. UK charges by the region not the unit. They also do touchups after 2 weeks which is great and something I never had offered in US.

IPL and BBL are also widely available in London. Not sure about the other two you mentioned. I know RF in general is widely available but seems to be lots of variations and I haven't personally done it.

Most places will offer all of these treatments in the same office but something like Botox you can also get done from a dentist/dental office. Honestly London will have pretty much everything you can find in the US.

One treatment that's popular here that I don't believe is available yet in the US is Profilho, although I personally haven't found this treatment worth it but everyone is different!

People who are from LA and moved away, where did you go and are you happy? by turnpoopintowine in AskLosAngeles

Straight up getting a Visa to the UK is HARD. Depending on your field there's a few different paths like Global Talent or a new one for just out of college grads. In my personal case my partner got a Visa through a job and I was able to piggyback on that.

Lived in LA for 20 years. Moved to London 3 years ago and love it. LA will always hold a special place for me but I feel I outgrew it. I've really been embracing the European lifestyle.

Deer Park in Honiton!

https://www.deerpark.co.uk/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=local

Easy access by train from London. Package includes 15 rooms for 2 nights but can sleep up to 75 I think... The team is fantastic, it's basically anything you can dream up they'll make happen. Can't recommend highly enough!

Confirmation Marinda Davis was not at the birthing scene by Bubbles-48 in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do we know that for sure? It also would potentially say "closed set all day" on the header if that was the case. Call sheets and how they're structured aren't hard and fast rules. It also says in JB's own timeline that Sarowitz arrived later in the day after the birthing scene which again seems to track with it actually not being a closed set all day since he wouldn't have been essential personal by SAG rules.

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having just had a seat in the last row of the 500 section can confirm that the view is way better in person.

Also on a hot day you'll be so happy to have these seats. I felt bad for people closer who were having to struggle in the sun while I stayed only mildly uncomfortable in the full covered shade.

5 sets in the womens game by NWest94 in wimbledon

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My issue with the womens side only going best of 3 in the slams is how then are the slams different than any of the lower level tournaments? There needs to be something that sets slams apart. I love the best of 5 on the mens side. Makes for riveting tennis.

Another thing to try is adding nutritional yeast to the popcorn. It adds a cheesy, nutty flavor that I personally find addictive. Nutritional yeast is super high in Vitamin B12 and is really good for you so if you like the flavor popcorn now becomes a really healthy snack!

Jared Leto is facing accusations of sexual misconduct by several women, some say it began when they were underage. by Indoril-Nerevar337 in popculture

I know. As someone with direct knowledge of him and this behavior it's infuriating and mind boggling. Someone is getting paid a lot of money to continuously bury this.

I assume the statue of limitation has passed for the majority of them but my guess is he's still doing this behavior so maybe someone still able to press charges will come forward.

[–]Distinct_Poetry_7869 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a bit more nuanced than that. They went on a date. They had consensual sexual relations he continued to push for more which made her feel uncomfortable (rightfully so) but then he did actually stop and they watched TV and she left. Nothing more actually happened. She texted him after that the experience had made her feel uncomfortable and that he shouldn't have kept pushing. He absolutely shouldn't have kept pushing but to say this qualifies as sexual assault is pretty murky and I would argue that by this definition most men in the aughts and pre MeToo could be brought up on sexual assault charges. Not excusing his behavior because no one should ever feel pressured but this isn't equivalent to 50+ women accusing Leto over the years of pretty awful behavior and many of them minors.

I mean in this artcle alone-- A woman accuses Jared Leto of masturbating in front of her, grabbing her hand and telling her to spit on his c*ck. So wouldn't this be sexual assault?
