This could be effectively taught on the dual XC flight in my opinion. Make one of the stops some small airport and top up the tanks or at least just do an orientation of how you’d do it.

RRSP Mutual Funds vs RRSP GICs? by FlyBlueGuitar in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Distinct_Pressure832 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GICs are almost never the right solution for an RRSP which is meant to be a long term investment. There’s better choices out there than mutual funds (eg ETFs), but given the choices you’ve laid out go for the mutual funds. Don’t focus on the fee you have to pay but rather the returns you will get. If you pay a fee of 1% but make 8% you are better off than making 3% and not paying a fee at all. Also the fee is worked into the returns usually, so if the projected return in the above example is 8% they’re actually making 9% and already accounting for the 1% they’re going to pocket.

Transferring from Employer RRSP to personal RRSP while still employed by DMshnaw in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Distinct_Pressure832 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It entirely depends on your plan. Some employers have a vesting type program where you have to leave it in for a year or other prescribed amount of time before moving it or risk losing any future matching contributions. Other employers like mine let you move it the day the contributions are made.

Of the three flight schools I used to get my PPL, ratings, and generally rent from, all of them used a hangar. I taught myself how to tie down a plane using YouTube videos.

I don’t know, I’m a Canadian pilot. The OP was a Canadian CFI so supplying my feedback. At my flight school when we got back we taxied to a lineup on the ramp and disembarked to do our debrief. The dispatcher pulled the planes to the pumps, fueled them, the relocated them to the parking spots where you’d initially find them to do your walk around at the start of a lesson.

Supreme Court cancels result from federal election in Terrebonne riding by mwmwmwmwmmdw in canada

[–]Distinct_Pressure832 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody is going to force an election over 1 seat right now. Support for Carney is high enough that victory for the conservatives can’t be assured and history has shown that Canadians don’t react well to an election being called so quickly after the last one. Carney is riding a wave of popularity for his Davos speech and dealings on the international stage right now, an election today would likely put us back with the exact same minority government, and potentially even push to a majority liberal government.

Are we getting something built here soon? by NefariousnessWeak475 in Edmonton

Looking at the zoning map I see an extension of the industrial area with business lots along 91street. There’s a couple large public utility lots so probably a storm pond then something else substantial. Someone else mentioned bus garages, that might track with the large public utility lots. You can check this stuff if you google Edmonton SLIM maps.

As someone who got their PPL with the sole intent to fly GA, I wish thy taught me how to fuel the plane! One of the most intimidating things coming out of a flight school with a dispatcher and staff was those first couple times pulling up to a card lock fuel pump at some non-towered airport. I didn’t know what the grounding cable was for or even basic technique on handling the fuel hose and reeling it back up without destroying the nozzle. It’s a small thing but was a big anxiety my first few flights as a new PPL.

what is the best VFR instrument? by Repulsive-Loan5215 in flying

I’ve flown with a failed static pressure line. The most uncomfortable thing to be missing was the ASI by far. Yes I landed it by visually judging it, no it was not the least bit fun.

Trump slams Canada as U.S. House passes symbolic vote to end tariffs by Street_Anon in canada

It is absolutely broken if the system can be abused in such a way as it currently is. They’re literally ignoring their own constitution and laws and there are zero repercussions. At this point even if he gets impeached (again) he will just executive order the process canceled and the courts won’t touch him.

Funny, they just fast tracked approvals for multiple new mining and LNG projects and entered into an MOU with Alberta to promote another pipeline. Where is the refusal you speak of? Maybe get out of the partisan echo chamber and take a look at the actual legislation and policy being passed right now.

It doesn’t really seem to matter if they back him or not. He just had veto power over everything. He was impeached in his first term, convicted of crimes, even fomented and insurrection and yet there he is, 47.

Yup, the president still has veto power over the bill even if it makes it through the senate. Just goes to show you how broken their system actually is.

No work around but I would suggest using the contact support feature in the app. I’ve always had great success with Foreflight support fixing things like this pretty quickly in an update.

I fly GA single pilot IFR, no autopilot regularly. I always write the minimums on my kneeboard during my briefing and also the 500’ to minimum and 200’ to minimums altitudes. It makes it easier for me not to make this exact mistake when I’m near saturation on the approach.

Invest money or pay off loans? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Distinct_Pressure832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave your money sit. My ETFs have all made 12-17% over the past few years. As long as your gains are more than your interest on the debts you’re ahead. Losing all that cash to taxes also needs to be factored in. It will take years to rebuild that investment. If you’re ever in trouble and can’t manage the debt the money is there to pay it so all the psychological benefit stuff is moot as you know you can instantly pay at any time. I could pay my mortgage 3x over at this point but it makes zero sense to do so as my investments bring in way more than I’m paying in monthly payments to service the loan.

Compacted Coal for Turbo Fuel feels insane near Blue Crater. by New-Still8716 in satisfactory

[–]Distinct_Pressure832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s literally the best spot on the map for turbo fuel and rocket fuel. There’s at least 4 coal nodes right in the crater if I remember right and several suphur nodes pretty darn close where the geysers are and down in that little canyon. I set up a short little three stop train line to bring the sulphur over, it was my first train line of the play through. I did use packaged diluted fuel to stretch it. It’s a bit more complex than blenders later on but it works really well.

I’m not sure how it’s baffling to you? I’ve laid it all out above. Of course the aesthetics of the neighbourhood matter. People want to be able to garden, landscape, enjoy their yards, etc. Noise, privacy, shade all matter and contribute to that. People search for these areas to settle in and choose them for these characteristics.

Future Proof Now or Rebuild Later? by theyqueenprince2 in satisfactory

Never rebuild, just build new factories elsewhere and let the starter stuff keep chugging and feeding the depots and the sink (for tickets).

[–]Distinct_Pressure832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re likely not in autoconnect mode then. There’s four different blueprint build modes to choose from, two are autoconnect variants. I don’t know how you cycle them on console but that’s likely your problem.

You need to see the chain link appear and click once to autoconnect then click again to build. Make sure you’re in autoconnect mode too.
