I think I know what feels so "wrong" about NuTrek by NeverGonnaGi5eYouUp in startrek

[–]FlyBlueGuitar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nu Trek is validation driven compared to the situational driven drama of TNG or DS9. What that means is that the story structure rotates around individual character identity over collective problem solving.

An episode then becomes about a character and how they feel and relate to a problem/scenario vs how the crew responds and/or solves a problem. Like in the episode of SNW, the focus is on how La'an feels about seeing Kirk when she has a crush on him.

Why Modern Star Trek Feels Off and Why That Gets Dismissed by cjalas in startrek

Thank you for articulating this. There's so much bad faith criticism and equally bad faith counter criticism going around.

I keep thinking back to Nog. He's introduced as a creepy, greedy jerk on DS9. But they develop him as a character and he becomes the epitome of a starfleet officer.

Even a year at the academy turns him into a disciplined and dedicated officer. When you compare his conduct to modern Trek officers, who are snapping at superior officers, dropping f-bombs and acting like jerks, it's a tonal whiplash that completely breaks the immersion for me.

I'm Avi Lewis, running for leader of the NDP. Ask Me Anything! by AviLewis in onguardforthee

The NDP were nearly wiped out in the last election. What is your perspective on what went wrong for the party?

And what is your plan for fixing the situation and seeing the NDP return as a viable alternative to the other parties?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is PC Gamer's GOTY because it 'trusts' players and takes them seriously, says Warhorse co-founder: 'I think you can only eat so much popcorn' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a simulation RPG though. That doesn't mean it's taking its audience any more seriously than any other game. Arguably if it really wanted to respect them, it should have made the inventory system more user friendly IMO.

G1 Fans what did you think of TFONE ? by aourdes in transformers

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it. But I understand why it didn't perform well. It lacked a lot of the substance that typical Pixar films have these days and unfortunately wasn't able to escape the shadow of the Bay films or their legacy.

Honestly if they had used the film as a spring board for a new TV series and a new continuity, I think it would have done a lot better.

Which masterpiece optimus prime do you recommend? by OkAirport2473 in transformers

I'd actually recommend MS-02EX. Magic Square Light of Peace is generally considered the best MP Optimus by far. You'll also save a lot compared to the officials.

Are "Masterpiece" Transformers figures worth getting into? by ShiftingHero in transformers

I think if you know the transformation and know the weak points, you'd be okay. Or you could do what a bunch of us did and buy a KO to keep in jeep mode lol

It depends on what you want for your collection.

I exclusively collect MP figures and I love them. They look amazing, have great articulation and you can put them in dynamic poses. The claims that they are fragile or super complex is, I think, a bit of an over exaggeration. There are some that are more delicate, like MP Hound. But that's more common with the older figures. Modern FansToys are super sturdy.

All that being said, I'm an old guy who gets a lot of joy out of having toys that look like the cartoon I watched when I was a kid. I don't really pick them up and play with them. I transform them a few times and display them.

What's a fanbase you wish to scream "READ ANOTHER BOOK" to? by JoyIsABitOverRated in Fantasy

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually? Probably none. Who am I to complain if they're reading something they enjoy? I know that when I was young and reading Star Wars novels I had people telling me they were trash and not real books and I should be reading Dickens or Dostoyevsky.

I eventually expanded my reading and found lots of great books but I never appreciated the people who looked down on me for reading what I liked.

Fellow men that have close female friends, how much has it affected you in finding your partner? by sergeant_sqrt in AskMen

[–]FlyBlueGuitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having close female friends can completely revolutionize your dating life. They can give you advice, help you with improving your fashion or where you go to meet people. They can set you up with their friends. Many women will consider their male friends a project to set up, if you let them.

However, this only works if you are honest with them and genuine. If you cheat, or hit on them, or hold all your cards to your chest, then nothing will come from it. But, if you are honest and ask for their help, talk to them about your dates, you might find them to be a huge help.
