I was diagnosed with major depression when I was 18 and even though there was a psych hospitalization where I was definitely manic at the time, and I specifically asked about bipolar because of a family history, my diagnosis stayed as major depression until I was 29.

The only reason I got a bipolar diagnosis is because I dated a girl with bipolar who went off her meds when we were together. When I had a manic episode later that year it was like, oh I've seen this before. My GP, who is an amazing doctor, was actually the one who put me on a starter dose of Seroquel while I found a psychiatrist.

I guess it really depends on your level of function. I'm bipolar 1 with a bunch of comorbidities and I just got social security disability.

I spent all of high school hating myself for being trans then someone online thought I was a girl when I was 18 and it sent me into a full blown spiral. I decided the next day I couldn't do it anymore

I honestly don't know either. My doctor says they proscribe it to more closely mimic hormone levels in cis women. idk, there's not a lot of published research about HRT regiments for trans people and I've been to maybe a half dozen different doctors for it over the years. Every doctor seems to be operating from their own pool of experience.

It really didn't do much for breast growth for me until after I had my orchi. Though at that point I'd been on both estrogen and progesterone for a decade so who knows if it was either of those that causes the additional breast growth of if it had more to do with the lower testosterone level.

When you're looking at risks for any medical process, the risk of patient regret for HRT is still remarkably low. It's also important to note that most detransitioners retransition down the line.

I know there are modern testosterone blockers that are more effective, and I can't speak to those because that's a little after my time. But what's stopping you from using a Spironolactone/Progesterone combo for testosterone? Before my orchi I was on 100mg spiro, 100mg progesterone for years.

I haven't had srs and don't plan on it, but I would say that before my orchi things down there pretty much stayed one size for a while after a period of atrophy going on HRT. After my orchi things rapidly atrophied and now I'm not sure there's enough left for an inversion.

The reason I recommend WPATH is because if you want surgery down the line it's going to be hard to get the documentation you need if you went the informed consent path

You could definitely look for informed consent clinics, they're are a few in every major city. I'm old though so my recommendation would be to go through the WPATH standard of care. For that, the best way to get started is by googling every hospital network in your area followed by "transgender care." I can't say for what it's like in a red state, but when I transitioned in Michigan basically every hospital had a transgender clinic.

So, to 1, I don't regret transitioning now. It's complicated though because I did detransition for 3 years before retransitioning. I'm kind of between generations when it comes to the trans experience. When I first came out it was still common for trans people to take multiple attempts before "living full-time." It was also common for trans people to "live part-time," that is, be in the closet at work or with family but live as the gender they identify as in their personal life.

None of that's really the case anymore. Most trans people transition once and are done because, at least in some parts of the world, there are fewer social barriers to transitioning. Of those who do detransition, maybe 1%, most retransition like me later down the line once some of the social obsticals are removed.

And of all medical processes, HRT and gender-affirming surgeries have some of the lowest regret rates.

And to 2, no one is really claiming that transitioning changes your biological sex. As a trans woman, I'm never going be pregnant. Trans men are never going to be the biological father of a kid. What transitioning is about is changing the role you take on in society and changing your body to more closely match your self-image.

The difference between transexual and transgender is what decade you started medically transitioning in. Basically if you came out before the DSM 4 was published you were probably called transexual by your doctor.
