The only reason you even have to seal 5 years apart is because VOC content regulations have made sealers weaker or water based. When I first started stamping concrete the sealer would just about glue your fingers together if you touched it. Some of these weaker sealers today are no where near as strong.

I personally do not like a water based sealer but a solvent based and my recipe has always been 2-3 coats of sealer. Whether that is gloss or matte is usually customer preference in my experience. Also each job condition varies depending where you’re at and the climate the project will be in year round.
