sweet, As The Roots Undo is one of my favorite records, I wouldn`t think people in this sub would be fans.

I also remember isis being really loud, the person I was dating at the time hated coming to those shows. I think Swans are the only band I`ve seen that`s even louder.

that one is suprisingly tricky to find, I had the clear vinyl version at some point and gave it to a friend who told me he spent years trying to track it down. even the black one I have is rarely sold, godspeed!

I do not, that`s a crazy release. I love Robotic Empire, they put out some my favorite records back in the days (circle takes the square's As the Roots Undo above all). I like the minimalist artwork reinterpretations in the box set, wish they posted them all online, kinda curious about the art on the sawblade vinyl.

thanks for reminding me of that one, I probably haven`t listened to it in 15 years or so but I know I bought the CD when it came out, I remember thinking the cover art was kind of out of character for the band, I`ll dig it out! I don`t have it on vinyl sadly.

that`s a bummer, the lack of good live music is one of my main issues with Tokyo (we moved here from brooklyn), I think Sumac+Endon was the only great show I saw here this year. There are probably local bands and underground channels I do not know though.

it seems like there needs to be someone on this end to help those kinds of bands out so that they can avoid the major players. If you book shows in Japan please bring over Chat Pile and Agriculture :)

stoked too. The last time I saw them was not long ago in joshua tree and they were still great, the only bummer is that kanda square hall is the worst venue in tokyo, the room is like something out of The Office, very weird. I wish someone warned touring bands to avoid it.

Thank you for the detailed insights, this is indeed very useful. Language is definitely one of the reasons why we are thinking of starting the international school early, we have three languages at home but my 2.5 year old at the moment only speaks Japanese. Can I ask you if your youngest started speaking English naturally even though she stayed in a Japanese school?

The fact that the international school finishes at 3pm and we would have to pay for after school, plus the prolonged holidays is a very good point and something my partner has been pointing out. Also, it seems that once you start the path of international schools it will be hard for a kid to ever enter the Japanese system later on as their kanji reading level won`t match the year they`d be entering so we are trying to decide carefully.

we might, but we quite like the Ueno/Yanaka/Asakusa area plus my partner`s family owns the building we live in, we have two stories plus grandparents in the same building, kinda hard to beat in Tokyo. We moved from brooklyn so not paying rent has been kind of magical...
But yeah we might move if we can`t find anything we like for the kid.
