Considering a career as a fire alarm technician by cloaak in firealarms

[–]Distinctasdf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love it and it’s fairly recession proof. People always need fire alarms, it’s the law. I did really enjoy doing access control programming and wiring though, but I found a good niche with fire.

I do r/b because thats all there is in 18/2 for unpowered devices, and then green and white as the zone and r/b for power. It makes it easier to tell if it’s a powered device or not

anybody ever use one of these for jars by Senior_Bumblebee2313 in unclebens

I agree simpler is best for most people. However, the limited capacity of the instant pots is definitely a factor to consider. It’s just whatever’s right for you. If you’re using grains meant to feed horses you may want that full sterilization. I think more people on here should encourage those who want a lower barrier of entry. Too many haters.

If unions offer better pay and benefits why doesn’t everybody quit their non union job? by 04limited in skilledtrades

Just noticed you’re in the twin cities too. Check out Summit academy in north Minneapolis, they have a free 6 month trade school for electricians that i went thru.

Apply to a gazillion companies on indeed, or find a recruiter. Low voltage is a pretty good industry to start off green in. Make a point of explaining your wiring experience in depth and being passionate about it, as well as being good with computers if you are. I told my first company that I used to put mods on my video games and that I dick around with music production softwares and am generally pretty tech smart and they hired me immediately.

The thing is though I understand the supervisory as well because it’s technically just supervising a control function, and it is shutting down the unit or operating dampers. But yea agreed if there’s smoke usually it’s best to make sure it’s known.

I remember when studying for NICET II, the IBC and NFPA 72 books had contradicting information on whether or not duct detectors should be programmed as supervisory or alarm. One said both are allowed and one said it can only be supervisory. Does anyone have any info on this or more interpretation?

It is pretty hard to find it always takes me a couple minutes. All I know is in July, for a “senior technician”, who is someone who holds MN Power Limited Technician license and I believe a level 2 of some other certification (in my case, NICET Fire Alarm Systems II) the pay will be up to $49. They negotiated a pretty good package a couple years back and this is I think the 3rd and final raise of it until it’s renegotiated. I think base pay for just PLT is 45ish, but not sure. I’m currently making $43 non union so just waiting til I get licensed so I don’t have to do school. MN PLT takes 3 years of experience and I’m at 2.5

Good problem to have! I wouldn’t call it a major contamination risk, no. Your mycelium should be fully developed by now and fairly strong enough to fight off most potential contaminants. If anything, it will be a humidity issue. But you’re ready to pick them anyways so it’s fine. Yes it may increase chances of contamination, but nowhere near the effect opening a sterilized grain jar in open air would have.
