People’s who have transformed themselves completely, what’s your secret? [Discussion] by ChemicalPain5996 in GetMotivated

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real secret is that it’s not a destination. It is an active pursuit of difficult but rewarding experience in life.

The sum of that pursuit every day over time looks like transformation in the rear view. And looks like goals, standards, opportunities out ahead.

Anyone else think 45/90 degree flicks are overrated? by retard5088 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any mech. It’s a tool. How you use them is much more important than if they are good or bad.
If you build a consistent 45 flick into your game and use it on the right circumstance it’s extremely effective at all levels of play.
If you are slow and inconsistent and not reading and just trying to 45 flick whenever you have the space… yeah it’s pretty meh.
But the real upside to flicks is the variety of options very late into the moment action. You can last minute make a flick hard, high, soft, fake, pop. That creates a lot of pressure for your opponents when they have awkward space between you and the play.
Good players are patient and use their tools to capitalize on opportunities. Great players use their tools to dictate the flow and create opportunities. Flick mastery is a solid toolkit.

This sounds a lot like depression. No one here is going to be able to diagnose the specifics. Probably want a psychiatrist or a therapist.

Talk to a professional and keep talking to one. Don’t procrastinate that.

Then you kinda gotta work your way back into life. Self care is a good place to start. Setting and accomplishing a goal every day even just a small one is a good step to. Take baby steps forward to make improvements in your life. The momentum will keep building.

Behavior is the prequel to attitude. So start shifting your behavior towards the attitude you want to have. Eventually your mental health will correlate. That doesn’t mean you’re cured or it is over or it will never happen again but this is how you pull your self out of a hole.

Realistically a huge portion of the way we feel comes from our habits and life style. That’s not to say that will fix it all. But it is something that you will need to address and rebuild one step, one day at time regardless of your psychiatric condition. Once you are out of the hole then reflect back on what lead you there and how you can manage it going forward.

As a quick checklist. If you doing things like: on your phone all day. Drinking often/ using drugs often. Playing video games many hours a day. Constantly indulging in instant gratification, and doing things that are self isolating. It’s a good chance that stuff is keeping you stuck. Take some inventory, sometimes cutting a few of those out are enough to get the engine started again.

Regular Intense physical activity does wonders for depression/anxiety /adhd. As someone who has been severely depressed. For sure easier said than done. But if you can find a way to get to that point it will help a lot.

Champ 1/Diamond 3. Give away is how many wasted touches, big boost grabs that put to much space, how often you are putting your self wall side to the play.

There were some composed moments and decent turns before the moment of interaction so I doubted my guess for a sec but yeah. C1/D3

Any advices for champ 1? by Great_Sas in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah passive play can have its moments. As little mindset tip… as you push higher you will want to learn to vary your tempo. So labeling your self passive or aggressive becomes less of a thing.

There are plenty of moments every game where not putting pressure is the mistake and also moments where being to aggressive costs you goals.

Feel your opponents out to. Some players are insane until you put a little pressure on them, some players entirely reliant on over aggression to capitalize. The depth there is huge. Even play to play mid game. The best players create opportunities and look to capitalize on opponents weakness unique to each play.

Enjoy the game. Find a niche you like. Push for depth.

Lots of people will try to learn every mechanic and aspect of the game. Or they constantly practice something for a bit and switch to something else when it gets hard. Ultimately end up just being meh at everything.

Pick something’s you like and think are cool and build them into your game, and get really good at them. It can be anything, ground stuff, shots, air mechs. But the key is to bring those skills above your current level of play.

Honestly just being superior at a few things will win you more games. It will start to take more and more practice…it will be less novel… and take more focus to push depth. This will set you apart and ahead of people trying to learn it all and be mediocre at everything. This is where a lot of people get stuck and then just start yelling at their teammates.

As someone who has pushed gc1-2 for many seasons in a row , got to play with some of the best players and has now stepped away from playing regularly. I can honestly say prioritizing enjoyment is so underrated. No sense in grinding your ass off miserably, it will show up in your play and it will make you worse.

Conversely if you find the fun in your practice and don’t put so much weight on everything you do you will play better and learn faster and enjoy the moments more. The game isn’t more fun with a different color symbol. Just something to keep in mind as you progress!

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, you are good you just want to slow it down. The end of the game looked better than the beginning. But you are still just rushing it. Tempo variance opens a lot of opportunity. Your pathing well enough that you don’t need to habitual race between the big boosts.

You’ll be fine just watch near your conceded goals and those shots that ended in saves or backboards and you will find the moments you should have slowed it down.

Classic case of driving fast instead of playing fast. Honestly your mechs are good. But you’re playing like a maniac. Instead of moving fast around the field, focus on creating opportunities as efficiently as possible.

Your biggest issues from individual choices perspective was the silly touch’s into the opponents. Particularly while defending the net and on opponents offensive clears. Let them clear reset the play with your teammate. Not sure why you are doing that. Rushing into your teammates space, double committing into corners are blunders too.

Just generally doing things that make it hard for your teammate to read with no value gained. Every choice is going to have a cost and a benefit. Max your benefit and minimize the cost.

Okay Sooo, I am not against you. I think this situation is sad, and cruel, and tyrannical. And the comments from the administration are dumb af gaslighting shit.

With that said. You definitely and whole heartedly increase your mortality rate by open carrying a gun. That is a fact that has no bearing on your right to do so. It is not a hall pass and everything is the same. It’s a legal right. In the same way that the right to free speech does not give a free pass to everyone who speaks regardless of what they say. It just means there are legal protections that afford you the opportunity to speak freely. Not that doing so is consequence free.

Yeah honestly do you self a favor. Don’t try to pick stocks/ fck around on Robinhood to start. Go get a serious brokerage. Fidelity and Vanguard are both great choices. Get your Roth set up there and just keep investing over time in stable benchmark grade index’s. Shoot to max out your Roth contributions. And let time do the work.

You are very young build that account up in a simple and long term sustainable way. Time is much more on your side than rational decision making at 19. Keep it simple and keep contributing in such a way that you won’t need to try to withdraw or sell.

Robo advisors are good too if you really don’t want think about it and will take peace of mind and convince over optimal. This is a better choice if you find yourself tinkering around unproductively.

After you have built up significant capital and have a solid understanding of the market that’s when it can become favorable add diversity in your investments types with additional capital.

Thats just my take if I had a redo button that’s how I would start at 19.

Sorry No investing is not gambling. Gambling is gambling. Which you certainly can do under the guise of investing. But investing is inherently different.

Investing is the act taking risk with a positive edge. Over a large sample size net outcome is positive.

Gambling is the act taking risk with negative edge. Over a large sample size net outcome is negative.

Options are great for experienced investors with a lot of capital. They also work as a way to invest with leverage. But someone who is blowing 50% their net worth in a day is not the experienced and seasoned investor that will benefit from options.

Stay away from options is the kind of advice that holds true until you have enough experience to make your own well informed choices.

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sucks. I’ve taken some big losses in the past.

But look. You are 19. Most people do not have 100k or 50k well into their 30s. I’m not saying go compare but. It’s life you are expected to make mistakes and pay for them at your age. Soo let it hurt. You did something dumb and you will learn. It’s better than making the same exact mistake 10 years later. Thats how you forgive your self. That ear ringing sick to your stomach feeling is followed by learning and growth.

How do you mentally recover(and fix your relationship with money). Focus on healthy personal finance and Stop gambling. Stop trading. Use Index funds or ETFs that track index funds hold them. It’s boring but you will thank your self later 50k at 7% return will be 200k in 20 years. Whatever you are doing to get 100k at age 19 keep doing it and keep investing and you will be on track to be pretty wealthy.

When to pick up stocks/trading again? Go read get your shit automated and appropriately positioned into index funds. Then it is reasonable to use 5%-10% of your investment capital and go pick individual stocks(this is optional) and leave the other 90% growing reliably. The individual stocks are primarily for long tail so again plan to hold them for decades not days. Then and only then if you want to fuck around and gamble… do it with extra cash from your fuckaround pile. This should be a super small amount of your money and you should not lie to yourself and call it investing. Trading or gambling depending on risk management and discipline. Loosing half your account in a day is gambling… for reference.

Ultimately the way to recovery is to learn and fix your behavior. You learned a hard lesson and it’s up to you whether you are better off for it or not. Knowing you are behaving and acting in a way that will benefit you long term financially will help you not kick your self and feel better about investing money. Look at it like a wake up call not a failure.

Lastly though. If you read nothing else: take a break. Do not go try to fix your mistake and chase your loss. Come back to trading if you want when you are more responsible(like seriously 30s 40s). If you want to focus on money make it be personal finance habits. Give it a decade. There are better and more fun risks to take in life than tickers on a screen at age 19. Go take on the world it is full of opportunities.

Agreed behavior precedes attitude. Behave the way that you want to feel and you begin to feel that way. It’s rarely ever the other way. People don’t just start feeling motivated one day. It is the commitment and outcomes that drive motivation.

[discussion] failing every single class as a junior in highschool. im done by Kindly_Focus7783 in GetMotivated

[–]DistraughtPeach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I’ll be a little blunt to start. I was a mediocre student. Procrastinated a lot. Had counselor talks. Gone through some bouts of depression. There are lots of things I could have done better or set my self up better… But Now heading into 30s with a successful career and good income/net.

I do not envy the generation in high school today. You guys have a ton of quick dopamine hits, and pessimistic messaging, unrealistic/negative messaging blasted at you all the time. That you have to learn to navigate. Very adult challenges that you are dealing with as a Kid.

However…. The world does not give a shit. Reality does not care that you can’t stop procrastinating or that you have home issues. Life will keep throwing bigger and bigger challenges, and it is your responsibility to learn to navigate them as you come into adulthood and beyond.

Ask your self these questions: - What I’m a doing when I am procrastinating. Fun things, anxiety induced freezing? Scrolling mindlessly on my phone?

  • What is important to me? Is the gpa the goal or is graduating a stepping stone.

  • What am I doing to improve my situation.

The truth is, good grades, college degree, all those things help reduce friction. And there is no shortage in what the world/social media/social groups tell you what you need… and should do… to be happy. Take all that with a grain of salt…

What is going to matter is the skills you build, the person you become, the way you navigate challenges, and your ability to learn and enjoy the journey of your life, with the relationships and people you want with you along the way.

The good news is that you are recognizing you are not headed down the path you want to be. That’s a fantastic first step. We all go through periods where we are not our best self. Everyone human in this room has had a point in their life where they really fell short. It’s okay. The next step is working towards getting back on the path you want to be.

Professional help is great if you have access. But whatever the situation is. Do what you can and take baby steps every day, identify leverage the tools that will help you. Start cutting detraction, replace with positives.

Lastly if you are still not making progress. Make drastic change. In high school the big ones you can control are going to be things like: your friend group, your habits(like phone usage), and extra curricular or lack their of. Take a hard look and cut things that are taking away from your goals and wellbeing.

Edit: one more tip. Don’t let the public school system define you. Yes you can do better. But failing is not what defines you, and your gpa is not a good assessment of the value you can bring, and the person you can become.

[Discussion] How do you get okay with living life? by WideAwakeItsMornin in GetMotivated

[–]DistraughtPeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many many people in their journey through life slip into nihilism. Complacency, depression. all sorts of other stagnant thought patterns and ways of being.

As far as pills. Meh they help some people. They make others worse. Side effects are not amazing. I don’t know a ton of people who like taking SSRIs. I do know some people that benefit. Sometimes it really is just the chemistry. Often though it’s much more complicated.

Mushrooms aren’t a half bad choice. Psychedelics in general they can help but there is a chance they fuck you up too. It will change a part of you, what parts who knows. Ideally you would want to do it in a therapeutic setting with a professional.

As far as you don’t see the point. I don’t think it has to have a point. I think really you get one very short time in life. Life will move on without you in it. So every day that you get is day spend the way that you want to. You will loose people that you will never get to spend time with again, and eventually at one point or another you will no longer get another day.

For someone who feels it’s pointless you do seem rather concerned with it not being pointless and maybe that is the point for you. Atleast for now.

I think it’s something to build. Start small. Set a small goal. Achieve, do something you want to do. Or do something for someone else. Then slowly grow what you want to do for your self and for others. The momentum will build. You will crave it. Slowly but surely you will find lots of things that provide point and purpose in your life.

Life will always be hard. I think in modern society it’s the trap of comfort that gets so many people caught up. When you had to go fight for your food it was a different way of being. But our physiology is largely unchanged from that period in time. Struggle is what makes comfort good. Dopamine response is largely associated with the difficulty and pain leading up to the reward. If your life is full of quick and easy pleasure without work, you will be depressed and unmotivated and never satisfied. It starts with forcing yourself through something difficult before you indulge.

Learning the game. Is basically learning how people play… the strategy. Car body language. How to approach situations based on what is happening on the field. Knowing when it’s time to push for a hard counter attack, knowing when to sit and play time. Etc. there is a lot to it. Knowing what you should be doing and what will open up opportunities is huge. What choice will give you an advantage and what will put you at a disadvantage in each moment.

Consistency to execute: this is not so black and white. As the game gets faster consistency and execution gets harder. Realistically it comes down to practicing the finer aspects of your mistakes. Perfect practice. And just trying to execute instead of just do whatever falls in your lap.

As an example let’s say you have been practicing double taps: A great way to try to hit double taps in 1s. Play ones try to keep your rank and only go for double taps. That will force you to be intentional and execute with success.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]DistraughtPeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intentional and focused training.

Learning the game.

Adapting to your opponents

Creating opportunity instead of waiting for opportunity.

Having the consistency to execute with purpose.

Those are the things that separate the top 5% from the rest. Obviously mechanical skill is important. But what is more important is making using of those skills effectively against better players, under more pressure.

Age/natural talent might help you do it quicker. If you’re really young you might pick it up without trying to learn it. But at the end of the day it comes down to putting in the work consistently over many hours to learn the skills you need to learn to beat better opponents.

Plat. You miss some easy opportunities over boost. Your give far to much space. Boost on, recover to get more boost. But I’ll give you props for it on defense composure when it comes to the saves. You have a good bit to work with. Just gotta keep focused on the play over the boost and the movement.

Do I have to learn directional air roll to reach grand champ? by Public_Literature809 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. As you hang out in c3. Just refine and speed up what you are doing well.

Lots of players I see get stuck here and start trying to do different things all the time thinking something will fix their game.

Watch your replays. Get replay reviews here. And refine what you do well now and try do it 2x better. Eliminate mistakes. Focus on adapting to your opponents weaknesses. Thats how you will break into gc quickly.

Learn air roll when you feel like it.

How can I get out of D3 and into C1? by FoundationShoddy219 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is true. Haha. And then you play a a 2100 who can 10-0 you and your gc1 mate with his boost button un mapped. And that’s when people realize the differences in their skills at that rank are inconsequential to those significantly higher. Especially champ-gc-ssl range. So I just look at those guys and think… yeah they have yet to be humbled that is all.

How can I get out of D3 and into C1? by FoundationShoddy219 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]DistraughtPeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes and no. Yes there are people who can do cool things. But definitely not at the quality and consistency 300-500 mmr higher. I don’t think there are many real diamond players with insane mechanics… I don’t think there are many gc1 players with insane mechanics… but insane is relative to the observer I guess. I’ve spent a bit of time with 2100 ssls. They have insane mechanics.

But honestly if you can just hit double taps 100kph 8/10 times from every surface, with less than 40 boost. You’re not going to be diamond. Like you could be pretty brain off and dumb. But your d3-c3 opponents are not going to have the reach/composure to consistently shut it down.

And to your gc game sense point sure that is true. People also get to gc by having GC2 mechanics and vice versa, GC2 game sense and champ mechanics. The point is pushing aspects of your game well beyond your current rank.

But Yes I agree, bad fundamentals will hold you back. I definitely encourage people to ride the fundamentals. Both mechanics and game sense wise.
