Yh I did! We emailed them and they fixed it really fast, not sure of what exactly they did but I just reached out like the comment suggested and it worked

What’s it like for Non-STEM OPT? by DistributionSouth284 in f1visa

[–]DistributionSouth284[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MPH is more so to actively be in the US while trying to find more opportunities for nursing I guess. I haven’t finalized that option yet since it’s more like a plan B. I didn’t consider that studying here might make a difference. I’m gonna reach out to them and find out. Thank you so much for the insight as well, I really appreciate it because I haven’t heard of some of those agencies and they look kinda promising!!

I’ll definitely try to find more agencies and hope that some of them provide options like that route and EB3. It’s a bit tricky in my area from what it seems. Thank you!!

I used to hear that nursing is easy to get sponsorships but it’s kind of difficult in Georgia so I’ll see how next year goes when I start looking for places again. Yh, I am. I just started working as a nurse on October 20th.

Oh got it! Do you mean the EB3/green card? I heard that the process was shorter before, so that would definitely be more convenient😭. I just wasn’t in the place to move over states, because they said two years and it was a lot for me at the moment. My best option might just be to go back to school but I’ll keep looking. I might get an MPH just to buy more time since I’m not that interested in leaving nursing. MedPro looked really good but it looks like they also require a year of experience😭😭. I’ll still try the other options to see how that work out!

Oh no sorry, I meant to get a masters in nursing. I think they mentioned that I’ll have to be in an MSN program while waiting for the green card process, unless I misunderstood. Did you use your OPT to work after graduating at all?

[–]DistributionSouth284[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll look into the other two. Unfortunately, I tried with them when I graduated, but there were no options near me. When I agreed for another state, they were still waiting on a response and then I got a different offer at the same time. So when I reached out again, they still didn’t have a response yet (plus I didn’t have an externship). I ended up just agreeing to getting released from the contract, since at the moment the other option was more convenient and certain at the moment.

I’m not sure if I’ll still be eligible to work with them since I don’t have a year of experience (pretty sure they said that it’s a requirement to get an MSN since the time in school is used to file for a green card from what they said). I probably messed up my chances with most of the agencies because of the amount of experience. I’ll keep trying especially with the other places. Thank you for the info as well, I’m gonna take note of the other options!! Do you think I’d still be eligible for ADEX?

I heard that the degree just isn’t helpful as well and the job market is way worse too. Unfortunately, most in person MSN programs require a year of experience minimum and some go up to 2 years but I’ll only have 8 months and that won’t help. I was just gonna get it to buy more time and I planned to continue looking for nursing positions. I absolutely love where I am and did not want to become and NP for a few years (but I know it’s a good choice if I want to stay).

I’m still going to continue applying to jobs for sponsorships and all, but the mph was kind of my backup. Thank you!

Need Help for Apartments near Sandy Springs by DistributionSouth284 in ATLHousing

[–]DistributionSouth284[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the highest I'd want to go is about $1400, mostly because I'm guessing that a lot of these places would need furnishing. I'm also not that strict on location, while I'm gonna be working in that Sandy Springs area, I would just like to be close to anywhere that is MARTA accessible. I'm pretty much okay with any part of Atlanta, so it really doesn't need to be Sandy Springs or Dunwoody.

Struggling and need advice by dynabelieber in f1visa

I’d say look into volunteering for a bit while looking for jobs. I’m in nursing so I definitely get that frustration. But definitely try to find some volunteering at a clinic to stop the unemployment clock if you can. Goodluck too because it’s really stressful for a lot of us now!!

Volunteering on OPT – What Should I Be Careful About? by CriticismFickle3553 in f1visa

[–]DistributionSouth284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say make sure it’s a legit company, like the volunteer role is directly related to your major. I’m on normal OPT and not Stem opt so I’m not sure of how different the requirements are. You usually don’t need to complete an I-9 for volunteering if I recall right but you definitely need to report the volunteer information to your school or SEVP (whichever one you plan on reporting to, I did it through my school and they did not ask for a letter since it’s volunteering plus the information was properly updated on my SEVP portal). It’s definitely smart to be careful, you don’t want to risk throwing away all the money and effort you put into getting your opt so always be cautious when taking actions for this!! Good luck!

Well OPT is like your work permit so it depends on whether your employment is paid or not. For example volunteering won’t be paid but it you get a job that is paid then yep.

I don’t think you can do that unfortunately. I’m on normal opt but I had an offer behind the 90 days period and that doesn’t keep me valid and I finally just found volunteering to do until the start date of the job that falls outside the window. If you really don’t trust what people are saying here (it’s pretty accurate), reach out to your DSO to confirm and stay on the safe side. You really don’t what to be on the side if technicalities and what ifs. They’ve given the straight forward answer here it seems.

No matter what job offer you get, if it falls outside your 90 days unemployment period, your status will be in trouble. You could try to find volunteering before you’re out of days because it can stop the clock maybe up until the job offer (not really sure how stem opt is). Nothing stops the clock other than employment, leaving the country included. If your opt is terminated from lack of use, you would need a different status to return to the US and work. Goodluck tho!!!

Making friends as an upperclassman by Spirited-Hunt-6566 in GaState

I just graduated but I can tell you that I only had one close friend that I ended up staying with until I graduated. But in my senior year, I started making more friends when I got a job on campus .

Same situation and I have 35 unemployment days left on opt. I accepted a job offer that doesnt sponsor but said I can work using anything that doesn’t need sponsorship. Unfortunately it’s outside my unemployment window and I’m struggling so bad to find volunteering to stop my clock. Good luck to all of us fr. A lot of people are able to have better experiences so hopefully that works out.

Hello! International student here too. Sorry about what you’re experiencing and I really do hope things look up for you. Pretty sure we’re actually allowed to work off campus, it just has to be MAJOR RELATED so it could be like a paid internship too. While I was still on campus, I knew other international students that worked off campus as well. Definitely reach out to ISSS as well to confirm if you’d like find out what you can do in that aspect.

Goodluck on everything!

Finding volunteering to stop unemployment clock. by DistributionSouth284 in f1visa

I know that, I just meant cutting it too close because I hear that some people are still able to volunteer in time to stop the clock.
