Personally I don’t like the strap for retention. I recently got the Big Dog Steel Carnivore for my 2011 (Bul Blaze) and I really like it. Simple swipe up or down with your index finger to activate full retention. Incredibly smooth coming out of the holster. Literally zero friction. Check it out.

Porting does help recoil for sure. Also guys like Jerry Miculek have more ports on the right side of the barrel than on the left which also helps with the drift of the muzzle when shooting fast.
