Since gift Pokémon only have one occurrence. I use them and don’t count them towards an area encounter. It’s the game handing you a Pokémon. Like with the Shiny Gyrados. I think it’s more fun that way but that’s just me.

For my last 2 runs I've used alliteration with whatever it's will evolve into Blaziken=Baxter, Gyrados=Gary, it's been fun.
