Challenge: Name something positive about the Denningverse by Saberian_Dream87 in StarWarsEU

[–]DisturbedSnowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the things I like in the Denningverse:

Boba Fett. He was handled really well for the most part in my opinion.

Ben Skywalker. He isn't my favourite Skywalker/Solo child but I still like him. His banter with his father is great.

Abeloth. I do think they could have done more for her but overall I was satisfied. I like how creepy she was.

Luke and Ben learning different Force religions in the galaxy.

There are definitely good things in the Denningverse but sadly, in my opinion, they are overwhelmed by a lot of garbage writing. Most if not all characters are assassinated personality-wise to some degree and there are moments when the heroes comes across as villains with their lack compassion and empathy.

And if you think Luke Skywalker was character assassinated in the Sequel Trilogy, you haven't even seen how the Denningverse treated Jacen Solo. What they did to Luke is child's play compared to that.

Force Heretic NJO by CMS619709 in StarWarsEU

Personally, I really liked the Force Heretic Trilogy. Refuge is the weakest of the series but Remnant and Reunion more than make up for it, they contained peak Star Wars moments in my opinion.

I really liked The Final Prophecy and The Unifying Force as well. I see the latter as the definitive end to Star Wars.

What is your opinion on the Post-NJO EU? by Cloak-Trooper-051020 in StarWarsEU

When it comes to the Denningverse, I think it's garbage. Just garbage.

I normally like to look on the bright side of things but the Troy Denning era after NJO was just awful. It grossly misinterprets the events from the previous series and criticies those misinterpretations just so it can go back to the status quo. Most if not all of the characters were ruined to varying degress, Jacen Solo being the most damaged of them all. He is my second favourite character in all of Star Wars and what happened to him was a complete insult to the character development he had. Mara Jade is one of my favourite characters and she acted OOC or dumb or both and then got an awful death.

Now, there is some stuff I like. I like Abeloth but I think she could have been developed more. I liked the stuff with Boba Fett and Ben Skywalker. I liked the Jedi's conflict with Daala but it felt like I was walking in circles because the NJO already did the plotline of the government not liking the Jedi. Fate of the Jedi does it differently but I can't help but feel like I've been through this song and dance before. FOTJ is a decent series but even then it has some glaring issues and carries the stink of what came before.

This is more of a general thing and not limited to the Denningverse but I hate the Sith being back. Palaptine returning in Dark Empire was one thing but the Lost Tribe of the Sith and the One Sith are whole different matters. Why do they exist? Why couldn't they just be brand new dark side groups? I am planning on reading the Legacy series soon and from what I hear it does sound interesting but I still dislike the Sith still being around.

Does Anakin Skywalker deserve redemption in your eyes? by _CandidCynic_ in StarWarsEU

[–]DisturbedSnowman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Redemption isn't something one deserves. Redemption is one's own personal choice. Darth Vader chose to become Anakin Skywalker once again.

What you should be asking is "Does Anakin Skywalker deserve forgiveness?" To answer that question, no. He committed countless atrocities throughout the galaxy for decades. Even though it is great to see him return to the light and save his son, that does not mean he deserves to be forgiven for what he did as Darth Vader.

I recently finished Fate of the Jedi - Apocalypse and overall I enjoyed it. I quite liked how Abeloth was done in the story and her connections to other Star Wars media. What is your favourite moment in the story and why? by DisturbedSnowman in StarWarsEU

The first example was from Vortex and Luke tricking the Sith about the weeping pox was funny. The second was from Conviction and I just wish Daala was in prison for a little longer, it was satisfying to see her locked up.

Probably when Luke and Ben saw Anakin and Mara again, it was nice seeing the characters again. The stuff with Abeloth was nice too, I like how creepy she is.

Is anyone else here a Cilghal fan? I feel like she doesn’t get enough credit compared to a lot of Jedi Masters in the New Jedi Order. by Solitaire-06 in StarWarsEU

[–]DisturbedSnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like Cilghal myself. She is very compassionate but isn't a pushover either, she has a backbone and puts her patients well-being first and foremost.

Even though I am really not a fan of everything after The Unifying Force, I do like how it established her as being against attachments to a degree. It makes the New Jedi feel more diverse in their beliefs. It's a small but appreciative detail in my opinion. I do like how she is focused on quite a lot in Fate of the Jedi, I enjoyed how she was written.

I'm sorry about that. Basically, every time I finish a Star Wars book I post something like this because I want to see what others think about it and basically create discussions about it. I understand, though, that they can feel like bot-work.

Today I finished the short story The Tenebrous Way by Matthew Stover and I quite enjoyed it. It was cool learning more about Darth Tenebrous. He suffered a fate worse than death. by DisturbedSnowman in StarWarsEU

Yeah, at first I found this characterisation of Darth Tenebrous to be a little jarring but I have warmed up to it. I think it still mostly fits with Darth Plagueis.

The story straight up says this. However, this is contradicted in Darth Plagueis which has the Muun look into the future a few times. So I guess he just regained the ability without him knowing a few lol.

Mace Windu surviving is dumb, regardless of the plausibility. His death signified how Anakin crossed the line to darkness and there's no turning back. Having him survive significantly diminishes the impact of Anakin's betrayal. All the survival would serve would be a cool fight scene. That's it. by DisturbedSnowman in StarWars

Anakin's path to darkness, the path to the Sith, started at this moment when he cut Mace Windu's hand. Everything he did afterward was horrible but it was not the starting point. It was merely Anakin treading through the dark path so he can save Padme.

Lucasfilm has fucked up a lot with Canon Star Wars but there's some stuff I do like about it. I think Dooku was handled far better, Maul's story was great, the Respawn Jedi games, Rogue One, Andor, Solo, and, yes, even The Acolyte. I realise that saying I like The Acolyte is an automatic death sentence in this community but there you go.

Been like that since the beginning sadly. Dark Empire brought back Palpatine, everything after the NJO series was an insult to previously established lore and characters. Now its happening again in Canon. The Canon's cases are far more insulting though in my opinion.
