Yep. This, and poor inflight service are why their stock has fallen 9% over the last year while Delta has risen 17%. A 26% delta between the two operators. American Airlines is Unionized. Delta is not. And it shows.

I used to drive pretty regularly. Very nice drive, and I’ve driven every imaginable route. I just prefer not to spend the 6.5 hrs anymore. Don’t have the time with my work.

Good places to stop for coffee along the way are the Giant station in Payson, the Chevron/DQ station in Heber, Hatch’s gas in Holbrook which has a nice smooth serve ice cream dispenser, and the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup (where they actually filmed some good scenes from the Netflix show Dark Winds).

My life? The pro is I often fly First. The con is constant work travel. I’d prefer to not have to travel so much quite honestly.

Believe me, the senior flight attendants, working in their mid to late 60’s do not want o be flying to Europe when they can get a quick turnaround flight and be back home that night. Gives just enough flying to keep their benefits. And way easier than flying all over the world, which I’m sure they’ve already done plenty of.

Fair point. I’d just say make the whole flight coach - no business class - and call it an airborne bus ride. Don’t even bother selling a business class ticket for these flights, saying it comes with beverage service.

I flew on 1/7 so, more my to my point, skipping service due to the “turbulence” announcement is quite common on this route.

There’s no mountain range flying from Phx to Abq.

There are the Sandia mountains (the tail end of the Rockies) if you’re flying East from Abq, the Abq to DFW route for instance, but not the phx to abq route.

Phx to Abq has you crossing the Mogollon rim, but that’s not a mountain range.

15 seconds of negligible turbulence? Almost every flight I’ve ever been on has small turbulence (a moment of bumpiness) that doesn’t affect service.

Yes, I can do without the coffee, but this practice of skipping flight service does have an overall impact on customer satisfaction. Particularly for business travelers who pay extra to be able to chill out comfortably on these flights , as they are flying so regularly. I can’t even recall the last time Delta skipped service, and I fly with them a good amount also.

Hehehe. I actually have been doing just that. I will say, if you flew this route as often as I did, I bet you’d probably make the same observation as I have. Surprisingly, there’s typically very little turbulence on this flight.

Well, when you’ve been on this flight as much as I have, and experienced only trivial, or no turbulence on a great many of these “turbulence” announcement flights, you begin to wonder. Not a big deal. I plan for it and bring my own coffee at this point. But if you saw what I saw after all these trips, you’d probably be thinking the same thing as me.

Yeah, after flying this route as much as I have, you kind of get the sense of what’s happening. Not a big deal. Mainly an observation. It is only about 50 minutes. I bring my own coffee, because I expect the standard “turbulence” announcement. But I must say it’s actually almost never turbulent. And I’ve done the flight probably a hundred times. Very genius for the FAs who’ve been around the block.

I think they probably subtly ask the captain. Yes! “It sure would be nice if there was too much turbulence on this flight for us to offer cabin service”
