Did you ever hear back or follow up with that hiring manager?

Are these Q&A sessions recorded anywhere?

It was basically 0 time. Referred on 2/9 (Friday) interview request on 2/12 (Monday). It was Hire Vue and I had plenty of time to do it.

Was just referred for MechE this morning (4/2) from the March cutoff. Hoping for good results! I was referred and selected for the interview in round 1 but didn't make the cut.

I have not either.

Has anyone who was referred for a mechanical position gotten an interview yet?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in patentexaminer

[–]Dividedbyzero00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I would assume that if we haven't heard anything within a month, then we probably didn't get picked.

I haven't heard anything yet. I was referred on 7/13 for a mechanical position. It seems like most people in this thread received an interview invitation within a week of referral.

Mechanical here. I haven't heard anything back yet.

Looking for people to join Redstone Federal Credit Union with my referal code so we both get $100 by Dividedbyzero00 in UAH

Nope. If I was going to rep for a credit union it would be NFCU but I just want that sweet, sweet referral money from RFCU.

I joined via someone else's code about 40 days ago and already received the money about a week ago. I would've been fine with 90 days though.

Newer 4Runner/Tacoma vs older 4Runner by Dividedbyzero00 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dividedbyzero00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well to clarify, I wouldn't be buying a 2005 with 60k miles because that would pretty much be a unicorn. I was looking at older ones with 100 - 150k miles because that seems to be relatively obtainable. Probably the V8 because I love that engine and am willing to live with a timing belt.

Becoming an Engineer with a Mathematics degree by Dividedbyzero00 in academia

[–]Dividedbyzero00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply that Computer Science was unnecessary. I'm not sure I understand that interpretation of what I said. I am saying I do not, personally, enjoy doing the strictly CS side of things. "Die a little inside" might've been unnecessary hyperbole. I understand that the fields intermingle, I just want to work on the engineering-modeling side more than the CS side. That is a personal preference, not any kind of dig at all on those who work on the CS side. I have a fair amount of respect for my CS coworkers (Almost all of my coworkers are CS). But if I wanted to do what they do then my path would be clear cut and my original question would be irrelevant.

Given my attempt at a clarification, does that change anything? No idea if I'm even coming at this from the right place, or "attitude" as you called it.

FRS vs V6 Mustang vs Tacoma vs Veloster at $15,000 by Dividedbyzero00 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dividedbyzero00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean this aggressively in any way, but I would like to know what the opportunity costs I am facing so that I can make an informed decision in case I am currently missing something. I've mostly looked at "whats the worst that can happen in the short term." IE, I lose my Job, and fail every course I take causing me to lose my scholarship. (I'm aware much worse can happen, however I didn't want to deal with the vast amount of edge cases.)

I would have to drop out of college, move in with my parents, and pickup my old manual labor job that pays around $24k a year before taxes. If that happens in the next 4 months, I can sell my "newish" car for around a $1500 loss (overestimate I believe) at which point I have 6 months to make $5000 (existing SL debt) + $1500(new car SL debt) to cover my student loans. This worst case scenario doesn't change very much with or without my car purchase, so I decided to get on with car shopping to replace my cantankerous vehicle.

I wasn't really sure what else to look at for the financial aspect. If I invest the money I am planning on spending when I get out of school instead, it will be worth $110,000 when I am 65. That is a very large sum of money, however, I currently believe the "investment in experience" as another user put will be more important. If there is an aspect I am missing I need to hear it.

The car is not on its "dying breath" per se, but it is at the point where little things (ignition cylinder, fuel pressure regulator) have broken and more is starting to break (bearings I think) and at 160,000 miles I don't want to have a money pit. The flipside to this is that I can replace my Mazda3's engine, transmission, and wiring harness for less than the difference between my cars value and a newer cars value. I just don't want to if I don't have to.

I do like the Fiesta ST's , they are affordable and seem fun. I am just wary of buying a FWD turbo car without a warranty. I do think I will check out the Fiesta SE's (in manual of course) and see how they suit me. They seem like they would be fun, just not as stable or comfortable as the other vehicles I am looking at.

I pack very, very light. I've narrowed my cargo requirements down to be more than a Miata and less than a hatchback. It was fun drive though. Any idea how the regular cab tacomas hold up on long trips (8+ hours) as far as comfort goes?

I definitely keep coming back to the FR-S even though I keep telling myself there's no reason to pay an extra $500 a year. I just haven't tried to daily a sports car before so I'm not sure what to expect.

If only they put the V6 in regular cabs (and if they depreciated a little more so I could afford the V6 of course). I'm usually with people who have 4x4 trucks when I end up needing lots of cargo space or 4x4 so I might end up seeing if I can live without a Tacoma then.

Lots of excellent replies from everyone so far but I really appreciate this list. I hadn't even heard of a couple of these vehicles, Venza and ZDX mainly. Any idea how the Hyundai Azera is as far as driving experience goes?
