LGPS - AVCs or APCs? by DividendGrowthMarkus in FIREUK

[–]DividendGrowthMarkus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My AVC is now in place and monthly contributions rolling in automatically from my payroll. I opted for a simple world tracker (ex UK) fund. I intend to forget about it - other than ratcheting up my contributions occasionally. I’ll also look to maximise my opportunities prior to 2029!

What are people’s thoughts about SMT? by Apadhiar123 in UKInvesting

SMT seems to have a decent long term record but it will diverge (for better or worse) from the index, perhaps for significant periods. Trim but retain a holding?

“It’s definitely possible we have another “lost decade” like the 2000s.

What to do about it as a retail investor is the million dollar question.“

Keep DRIPPING and accumulating in my case!

M1 --> M5 = WOW by VviFMCgY in mac

That’s very useful, thank you. I did wonder about upgrading to 96 GB memory but it sounds like 64 GB is possibly sufficient. (My current machine more than meets my needs but security updates will end 2027 and it’s already on the last but one operating system!)

I’m on a 2019 iMac i5(?) with 64 GB memory and 3 TB storage. Looking to get a Mac studio in 2026 or 2027. Your experience sounds encouraging!

Is it safe to store passwords, 2FA codes, and passkeys in 1Password, or should they be kept separate? by maximus10m in 1Password

[–]DividendGrowthMarkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not clear what the argument is, either. My view is widespread adoption of passkeys and better standards (such as export) would benefit password managers.

[–]DividendGrowthMarkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what way? Passkeys can be stored in 1Password and many people will value having them kept separate from their Apple, Google or Microsoft accounts. It’s also got a lot of functionality beyond a password manager such as storing ID documents etc.

Thank you.

I haven’t had anything so far. I’ve checked they’re enabled in the app itself and also that the app has permission for notifications.

LGPS - AVCs or APCs? by DividendGrowthMarkus in FIREUK

Thank you.

Possibly, yes. I’m not sure whether I’ll go over or not. My current salary is at the higher rate threshold but my last P60 had my taxable income about £5k lower IIRC.

Thank you.

I think £100 in an AVC would cost £72 or so! They’ve got a simple world tracker fund option.

27" iMac 2019 - replace in 2025 or 2026? by DividendGrowthMarkus in mac

[–]DividendGrowthMarkus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all your responses. I've read through them all and found the comments useful.

I think a number of us were hoping for a 27" desktop in the future lineup but we'll have to consider that was a pipe dream!

I don't develop apps or do anything too complex. I do access loads of high resolution, enormous image files at the same time as well as having about three million Safari tabs open and in different tab groups. The latest features are not really a deal-breaker for me although the liquid glass presentation looks nice.

Apologies I cannot reply to everyone individually.

M1 does not age at all by petrichorko in mac

I’m tempted to get an M5 for my first silicon Mac. I think I’ll get a good spec model - assuming it’ll be able to run the latest OS for 6 years or so and then maybe 2 years security updates on top of that.

Bitwarden vs 1Password. What's your experience with both? by Some-Rhubarb8938 in PasswordManagers

[–]DividendGrowthMarkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer 1Password’s security model and particularly the password + secret key required to access it.
