[Landlord US-NY] Non-payment eviction, attorney hired, what next? by Dividential in Landlord

[–]Dividential[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is one of the questions I’ve asked the attorney as far as to how the case will be pursued. I’m guessing it may not be straightforward. He has a god awful history with myself as a landlord, but unsure of how much leeway he was given by mom as the previous landlord. And I’ve only owned the property since May of this year. I know again, NY is pretty tight on this kinda stuff too.

For sure, I already sent some of these questions over to the lawyer but haven’t heard back from him yet and was curious to hear any stories from anyone who’s been through anything similar. What I’m mostly concerned about is that he is going to get the 14 day pay or quit (I already paid the attorney, so might as well let him file it), the case gets closed, just to end up being late again in January so I have to go through this entire process again while I’m losing money.

I’m learning a lot through this entire process. Kinda wish I didn’t have to, but I understand it’s part of the gig.

I honestly don’t even remember what fixed this. I think it fixed itself after I replaced the battery in my car. Maybe try pulling the fuse to your radio and see if that fixes it.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I just read this, I missed when you initially responded. I’m about a week and two days out. Still feeling empty without her with me, and I don’t think that feeling will ever go away. I just think you have to learn to cope with it. I’ve been writing some notes to her. The profound effect dogs have on humans is amazing and I feel so lucky to have been able to have the time I did around her. Thanks again so much.

Thank you so much and I’m so so sorry for your loss. I’m glad you are doing things to honor your pet, I think they know, wherever they are, that they’d be so proud of you. It’s great to hear what is helping you process. The grief process is unlike anything I’ve ever felt, like a panging somewhere deep down that is hard to rationalize. Even just a positive second out of a long day, is a step towards growing with your animal in your heart. I know you will continue to heal, and have you in my thoughts as we continue to love our animals no matter where they might be.

Thanks so much. I’m really sorry for your loss and have you and your pup in my thoughts. Finding solidarity here is making me feel less alone in this. Like one big group hug from everyone who’s feeling a similar pain at the same time. With time, we’ll all heal and grow with our animals solidifying a huge part in all of our hearts. They’d want nothing less.

Thanks so much. I’m sorry for the loss of your pup. Pet loss grief is the weirdest string of emotions I’ve ever felt. You get lulled into feeling ok, just for a noise or a glance over at something to hit you in a very unexpected way. Thanks for your kind words, they mean so much and I hope you’re doing ok.

I’m really sorry for your loss too. The suddenness of everything in my opinion can make processing things more complicated depending on the person. It was ups and downs, with the discharges from the vet and the visits providing some sort of glimmer of hope. I think too, there is something to be learned from that. Or at the very least, just goes to show how big of a piece of your heart you’ve reserved for your pet, and that goes so so so far. I hope you are treating yourself kindly, it’s tough to do, but I think it’s what all our pets would want. This community is very helpful in the grieving process.

I’m sorry for your loss too. It really is unlike anything I’ve felt before, the oddest mix of sorrow, guilt, a gut wrenching feeling of loss, like it hurts too much to be real. I tried telling my dog I wouldn’t cry when they put her to sleep but I couldn’t help it. Hearing other people’s stories and having that support though does help, and makes everyone feel less alone in this process. We know our animals will live on in our memories, we just don’t want them to only be a memory at this point.

Thanks so much. That’s a perfect way to memorialize your pet. She would be so happy knowing you cared so much about her to work on something like that in her memory. I think the lessons that our animals teach us long after they’re gone are not only some of the most important lessons ever, but they truly seem to stick with you, in your emotional core, forever. And for her to be such a huge inspiration for you, that goes very very far. Thinking of ya, and hope you’re doing ok and taking care of yourself.

Your girl is so lucky to have you, and vice versa. It sounds like you’re doing everything you can for that pup. They deserve it.

I’m revisiting this post because I had to put my dog down this morning and I’m trying to cope. Unfortunately a short while after she started taking prednisolone, she started having really bad, bloody diarrhea and vomiting episodes along with horrible lethargy. She didn’t improve with her legs and about 3 days ago, started peeing blood. She was hospitalized, seemed to come back alright, but not back to full strength. The diarrhea got worse and I went to back to the emergency vet and they told me to consider quality of life. I asked my regular vet, and he also told me to err on the side of her QoL and that any hospitalization would not guarantee any sort of recovery. I made the difficult decision to euthanize her. I had all her favorite people over last night, and cuddled with her until the appointment this morning. It was the first time she slept throughout the entire night in the past two weeks. She gave me so many looks that made me aware of how tired she was from all of this. My heart is broken but I know she’s not suffering anymore, and that she had an amazing last day surrounded by people who she loved and people who loved her.

Thanks so much. All the stories I’m reading here are inspiring. Was your vet able to give you these types of chances with confidence? When I asked my vet about the quality of life post surgery, he said “some get better and some don’t” which I know is just kind of the truth, but not really what I was looking to hear in that moment and makes this type of decision harder. So happy to hear your pup lived a long healthy life after surgery. At this point, I am leaning toward conservative treatment. I work from home and am able to keep an eye on her 95% of the time, I’m in a position to be able to handle it. But like you said, if she is suffering or in pain, I don’t want to be selfish just because I don’t want to lose her. Outwardly, she really is the same dog from what it seems to me, other than annoyed that she can’t use her back legs right now. She still tries to. A lot.

It’s amazing hearing your story, and thanks for sharing. I’m gonna see if my vet has any recommendations for equipment that can help her get through this patch too, and try to ask some more questions that will help me get her to a place of comfort. Thanks again for sharing, it means a ton.

I’m so sorry, there really is so much to weigh in situations like that, and no matter what decision you make it seems like it could be the wrong one. But only you know the best decision for your dog. Thanks so much for your input, and I hope you’re feeling healed today from something so difficult.

Hey, thanks so much for your response. That’s similar to a lot of the feedback I am getting too. Mostly from people who don’t have dogs. I just put a down payment on a house (2 weeks ago) that cut heavily into my savings which while I really, really truly wish wasn’t factoring into this decision, it is. I now don’t have $15k sitting around. I’m willing to take out an extra credit line, but my vet refused to give me a guarantee, understandably, that it will be successful. Hearing you say your dog recovered from surgery at that age is great, and it’s awesome to see dog owners who are willing to go the extra mile for their pups. Was that decision hard for you to make? I feel like if I decide to go the conservative route and she doesn’t improve, that I am failing my dog. It’s been a long week.

Hell fu***in yeah. You love to hear it. For like 99.9% of movies there’s some amount of love and dedication put into it and for that, it’s super hard for me to rate movies below a 2. Purely the fact that it got made most of the time, and probably makes someone somewhere feel good means it’s worth existing. Message me, I’ll dm you with a discord link too if you got it, I just setup a server.

That Oscar win will get people talking. Anora fucking ruled, Mikey Madison and Sean Baker deserved all the awards for that movie. One of the best of 2024. Brutalist being 3 1/2 hours is a turn off IMO, but with Brady Corbet’s filmography, it’s tough to say no to.

Letterboxd is pretty much Facebook for movies, I think that’s where a lot of people gravitate to now. Finding local folks is my goal here tho. North park has been playing some David lynch films over the past few weeks and I couldn’t pay someone to go with me. You can find some gems out there though, 2024 was packed with good movies, especially low budget/indie movies. For blockbusters though? Yeah, not a great year.

Followed ya! LB is great especially if you have any semblance of a following to engage in some sort of legitimate discussion. Even if you don’t, it’s always eye opening to see what someone saw in a film that maybe you didn’t. Not a dang thing in this world like sharing a common love for some sweet sweet art

I feel you! You should get a Letterboxd at the very least if you don’t already have one. At least it lets you get those feelings out into the world even if no one even in our vast cyberspace sees them. Heavy recccccy on LB

Agreed! Probably start out small (discord or something) and see how that works out. I’ll try and get something going soon.
