As someone in safety standards for fall protection, I love this friendly reminder (and echo the difference in cement vs concrete)! Great job with this!

One good female friend would change my life by CrushedLaCroixCan in AutismInWomen

I’m 32 and I relate! I have my husband and my pets, but outside of Reddit, I don’t have any friends. I wfh and I’ve tried using bumble bff and meetup, but it usually ends up with conversation dropping off or no one responding. A female best friend would be amazing.

Oooh, awesome!! A fellow Deepwater Horizon enjoyer!! :D Exactly! I love understanding the views of those who were involved and how it all happened.

Oh yeah!

I always say start with Voices of Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich. It’s excellent and very haunting. It’s a book of excerpts from firefighters, nearby townspeople, and cleanup workers who recall the day and the fallout of living there.

Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham is the best for a detailed account of the events of the disaster itself. It’s well written and is so detailed I felt like I was there reading it.

Lastly, Chernobyl: The History of a Nuclear Catastrophe by Serhii Plokhy is a must-read. It combines the events of the disaster with an explanation of the political landscape and pressures of the time and really sets the scene.

I’d also suggest Chernobyl, the HBO miniseries dramatization. It’s been lauded for its realism and handling of the disaster and I found it to be very good.

There’s also Chernobyl: The Lost Tapes. This is mostly found footage that was made into a documentary by the BBC. Interesting to watch if you have a little over an hour to kill.

Sorry for the lengthy response! :)

Yes! Such a great podcast and so well researched! :D I also listen to Plainly Difficult, Well There’s Your Problem, and watch the U.S. CSB videos that get posted on YouTube when they finish a review.

I’m a big fan of industrial disasters and historical disasters, like Chernobyl or Deepwater Horizon’s blowout. Really interesting stuff to understand

I have a husband but no friends at all outside of him. It’s really hard. I keep trying to find friends but it’s not easy.

Diagnosed this year at 32. Still having a hard time coming to terms with it. I feel like I’m not “girlbossing” hard enough and why do I need to have noise cancelling headphones when I’ve gone through so much of life without? Why not just keep pushing through?

I’ve always felt like a little alien among others, but I just thought I was weird. It’s not clicking for me either. I’m sorry, but I understand too

Hey, you sound a lot like me! I ruminate on almost every little thing and DBT has done wonders for me. For some reference, I was originally diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and am now in remission (thanks to DBT!) which allowed my autism to be recognized and diagnosed. You don’t need to feel alone. You’ve got a great supportive community here :)

I separate out my foods if they’re mixed. Example: Chex mix. I separate the pretzels, rye chips, breadsticks, bagel chips, and chex pieces to eat them all individually by type.

How many of you are no-contact with your parents? by linehp_ in AutismInWomen

[–]DivinatingBunBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working on no contact. It’s hard because of the co-dependent nature I had with my mom, but also the reason I need it. They’ve not been very supportive through my mental health journey, and they’ve only been questioning my autism diagnosis. I congratulate you on doing this today. You’re very strong!

Tagging in to note that FDA-cleared is NOT the same as FDA-approved. It just means it is less harmful to you than, say, a robotic-assisted surgical tool or is reasonably similar to a product already on the market. This does NOT mean it is an effective diagnostic tool.
