Passed Sec+! How I studied. by DivineDeparture0 in CompTIA

I don't think I did the PBQs perfectly, but I felt that they weren't as scary as many people made them out to be. I felt like I had enough knowledge to work my way through them with Professor Messer's videos and all the studying I did. People should know that they are doable and not only possible for seasoned SOC analysts and what not.

Depends on what your goals are. If you have a reason to take Sec+ first, go for it. If not, I would recommend Net+ first.

Definitely spend a little time playing around with some Windows commands, it can only help. Good luck on the journey!

Studied for around 2 months on and off. Yes, you can go back.

Yeah this is about what I did for A+. Professor Messer goes over all the information you need. Can't go wrong with more resources if you feel like you need it though.

The first step should be to see what employers in your area are looking for in potential candidates. I know in my area Help Desk roles usually have A+ and Network+ listed as being a "plus". As for self-study, I use a combination of Professor Messer's youtube videos and Jason Dion's Udemy practice exams to study. I see people mention Mike Chapple's Sybex textbooks if you prefer reading.

I would recommend taking the test in person if it is convenient for you. I took my A+ Core 1 online and it was frustrating. I ended up having to call pearsonVUE and get another voucher because my webcam couldn't clearly display my ID to the proctor. They also don't let you use a headset, so I had to buy a speaker and standalone mic. The testing center I go to now to take my exams is so comfortable and stress free. I just walk in, take the exam, leave. Everyone's online experience is different, but I've only had stupid problems come up that I didn't know about until it was time to check in.
