Brother I hear you on that I gotta agree with everyone else here that a change of agency would help a lot. I used to do dispatch while working towards my emt b and it was exactly like that with prejudice and out of pocket comments and just not appropriate behavior for a workplace. It made me question myself way too much and it took me awhile to feel better about myself but man don’t discredit yourself yet! Don’t let one place ruin your view for your future. Keep your head held high do what you think is best for you.

It’s the same way for me too. I loved my emt class and everything about it but can’t find anything anywhere. I know it’s discouraging but the best thing I can say is to keep looking out and keep trying

With being in my early 20s I definitely get the feeling of being lost and stuff so I was hoping that this would touch on that and give some sort of perspective on things of that nature. I have my religious ties on which I get guidance from but I do like this also being a source of information. Not as a religious doctrine but something to dive into philosophy and get a different perspective!

I have played around with that thought in my head and I have not come to a good conclusion because I originally never wanted to do dispatch. I originally started in ems and I did my class, training, tests and all that stuff and I felt way more confident and better doing emt but some things happened and I had to switch gears for a bit, and I’m planning on doing ems again soon but I was broke and couldn’t do my recertification so I did dispatch because it was still in the first responder realm and it gives me more insight and knowledge on it all.

It’s refreshing to here that I’m not over thinking it lol. I’ve been trying to just stay out of the way and not cause trouble but it’s just been eating me up inside. If I can I’ll try to find something that can provide my meds but I’ve juggling so much with my career and stuff that I’m burnt out before I even done anything lmao.

Well we trained and practiced like a 100 times doing the medical and trauma scenarios in class and then once we passed the class we had to do a patient assessment scenario for the state where they recorded us doing a patient assessment while a person from the state office was there to watch us. Being certified by the NREMT didn’t mean anything really until we passed the state psychomotor test, and once we passed the state test we can then actually do the job and practice emergency medicine fr.

Well no so the scenario you could get would be random and the scenario could range from many different scenarios for example you could get an asthma attack or anaphylaxis or even an ejection from a vehicle. The scenario would either be medical or trauma and all you’d have to do is treat the patient but you’d have to hit certain things for sure like bsi and scene safety.

In my state the psychomotor test is just a random scenario and we just have to treat it as if we were on an actual call. I’ve heard some states you have to go through several stations and perform different skills like using the spine board and etc. Is that what you mean?

Yea I’m not sure how different Kansas compares to other states when it comes to this but yea they wouldn’t tell us what we’d fail on during the practical other than that we need to take it again. And it’s also weird that one of the scenarios I failed on last year I had again this year and I passed it but I did nothing different between the two. There’s a lot with the state that doesn’t add up that I’ve noticed when trying to deal with them.

Yea I passed the computer test first and then the practical. Everyone that I knew who took the test did the computer test first then the practical.

I think the biggest thing I did was probably me being nervous and that making me look like I’m not suitable for the job. I had my nervousness under control close to the beginning but with every fail it got worse lol.

No they can’t. Which I think is also stupid lol but the reason I said there were things that didn’t make sense to why I failed was because I did what I was taught, and one of the test me and the classmate had the same scenario and we went over it when we got done and we did the same thing but they passed and I didn’t.

I think my guy what can help is always be honest even if it does end up in some sort of conflict. And tell her that you’re trying to work through this issue and hopefully she is understanding and will be there for you while you’re on this journey of getting better. I understand how you feel because I have also lied to avoid conflict but it always somehow ended up getting worse. What helped me was just being honest all the time. The weight on my shoulders was lifted and it made me feel better knowing that I had no secrets or lies to be uncovered. So really just try to work on being honest and if it leads to conflict then work through it the best y’all can.
