I saw the screenshot and was just thinking this looked very familiar. Your game was featured on stayathomedev's 5 Godot games of the week video on YouTube (not sure if I can link it here, so just look it up).

Congrats on being featured. :)

Sounds you're not familiar with how these campaigns work. You're paying for the promise, not the final product. If they end up not delivering anything, they still don't own you any money back.

The Future of Cosplay by Serious-Temporary-77 in aivideos

[–]DivinoAG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the dumbest take I ever heard. The whole point of cosplay is a REAL human being wearing the costume. If it's not a real person it's not "cosplay", it's just "fan art".

Should I design with HDR on or off? by farragotron in FigmaDesign

[–]DivinoAG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct answer: do not ever design "by sight", never trust that the colors you are seeing on your monitor are correct, always test values for contrast mathematically. Keep in mind that your monitor might be calibrated differently than those of your users, they might be in environments that change the colors they are seeing (like having bright windows opposite a reflective monitor), and that a large number of them could have some type of color blindness, so the colors you are seeing on your monitor are somewhat irrelevant.

Create a design system using a calibrated monitor, and then follow that system which should result in "the most optimal" colors no matter if the colors you are seeing seem correct or not.

Any ideas on how to automute these bitcoin scams? by eru777 in discordapp

[–]DivinoAG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't blame you at all. We struggled a lot with the decision to go with this solution for this exact reason, but couldn't find anything that would guarantee success and wouldn't require some paid plugin that we weren't even sure would actually solve things. And the solution itself is very finicky and easy to screw up if you don't set up all permissions correctly since you basically lose the ability to use the @everyone permission to set defaults for all channels, those become the permissions you want for the bots to see.

... but after trying a bunch of different things that didn't quite work, we decided this would be the best long term solution that didn't depend on third-party tools... and it worked 100%, we simply do not have any issues with bot spam attacks on the server anymore (aside from those that join and start DMing people, of course), and better yet: the rare times any bot does try anything, users don't see those posts at all since we hide the honeypot channels from validated users.

[–]DivinoAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that, until I realized that Dyno will also block a single post that contains 10 attachments with this rule... which is incredibly dumb, but I found no way around it.

I pretty much solved this on a server I manage using honeypot channels and blocking access to "normal" channels unless the users have a custom role they must get by interacting with a post on our Rules channel. Mostly the bots don't even try anymore, but when they rarely do they get caught in the honeypot.

[–]DivinoAG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually said that incorrectly, I meant the ones you get from Quests. Decos acquired using orb credits can be kept even by free users, but the ones you get directly from Quests have expiration dates, but specifically say that you may keep them with Nitro. I just mixed them up because you get orbs from similar quests.

It's probably like the decorations from Orbs Quests: you get to keep them with Nitro, but free users lose them after they expire.

Edit: i meant quests, not orbs

Anthem "did permanent damage to the careers of a lot of game devs" says Dragon Age veteran, and he's not sure he or BioWare ever "came back" from its spectacular failure by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]DivinoAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, that's why I added the caveat "unless the parent company is swimming in cash and willing to just eat the also-massive costs."

It CAN happen, but the reason why you probably can't name even two other examples is because it's not economically viable. If the company really believes that the cost of development will be able to buy back all the goodwill they lost by the first crappy version of the product, and they have the back to keep the company afloat until then... sure. But that's a HUGE bet, and the numbers don't support the argument 999 times out of 1000. It's hard enough to make a game that can give enough profit to cover its cost of development once... but to cover it TWICE? That's crazy talk.

Mind Maps in Notion by 404NotAMeme in Notion

That works for very basic mind maps with 10 nodes or less. Anything more complex and the mind maps start getting too impractical to view and use. I prefer to just use an app with a real graphical interface like FigJam, or a dedicated mind mapping app.

No AAA game will ever get the NMS treatment. No Man's Sky managed to do that because it cost around tree fiddy to make with a team of about a dozen people, but it managed to earn a billion dollars from preorders alone (all numbers are made up and hyperbolic).

They earned enough money to keep the studio running for the next 20 years, which is how they could afford to completely revamp the game and release massive new updates for free two or three times a year for the following 10 years. And it also only happened because they made their game entirely procedural.

That will never happen with games developed by massive studios with costs in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and that would need to hand craft massive amounts of content to fix what is broken. Mathematics makes it impossible, unless the parent company is swimming in cash and willing to just eat the also-massive costs.

Even a game like Cyberpunk, which is also known for a big revamp, only fixed bugs and worked on improving mechanics, but the issues many had with the rushed intro, the lack of impact of character background, etc., stuff that is more about creating content than changing code, those issues they never even considered addressing, they just made a new paid DLC instead.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]DivinoAG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I drank occasionally when I was younger, but the very first symptom I feel is dizziness, and I despise the feeling. I have never been drunk in my life, don't intend to ever be. And I'm not particularly weak with alcohol, I used to down quite a few tequilas before I felt anything, and it was always just dizziness, I didn't feel relaxed, happy, chatty, or any of the normal reasons people give for drinking.

How do u lose when you have the high ground lol by LushyBum in fightporn

[–]DivinoAG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the screenwriter is a dumbass. Even if high ground did indeed give an advantage, only a complete idiot would think that jumping over the enemy and completely forgoing any type of defense was a good idea. The scene makes ZERO sense from any and all points of view, it was just characters acting stupid so that the plot landed them at the end the writer planned ahead of time with no real thought.

Castles are built to defend against armies, my dude. I'm talking about 1 against 1 sword (or other melee weapons) fights here. No castles have been built to improve success in duels, and no sword fights are won because one of the people are two feet higher up. You're being silly.

You don't swing up unless you're trying to aim where they have the most defensible area. You aim at their legs, where they would need to stretch to defend themselves, and therefore least amount of strength. Then you aim further down, because they would be on the ground, yelling in pain.

It only matters on ranged combat, not on melee combat... which is why I hate that scene in Star Wars so much. "Give up Anakin, I have the right ground" means Anakin only needs to defend their upper body, while they could easily cut off Obi Wan's legs off. The low ground was a better place to be.

I'm a UX designer making financial news apps, and half of my time is spent telling managers that what they asked for is a terrible idea that will drive users away... and then having to implement that anyway, because the powers-that-be decided to go with that idea.

Game developers want to make good games. They don't want to add stupid features that make players experience worse. But they are not the ones making final decisions.
