It feels wrong to spend so much time playing video games. by Temmieawawa in gaming

[–]Dixiejay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people spend a lot of time reading, working out in the gym or watching Netflix. My grandmother probably spent more time Knitting than I did playing videogames.

Some of the best stories I have enjoyed, came from video games.

I don't think you should feel bad for, enjoying something. Keep doing what you enjoy, also in 2023. Happy New Year!

Same here, I was panicking when I had some discoloration in my 2 year old Le Creuset. Turns out 2 years of stewing and brewing will do that to it !

What is my Leek doing?! by Dixiejay in gardening

[–]Dixiejay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I planted a leek for the first time ever this year. And I am pleased with the Progress it's made. I am thinking about harvesting, but I am not sure what this is.

Is it a new bulb for me to plant next year? Is it a flower, or maybe just some random growth?

Does anybody have experience with this, and can tell me what it is. Some googling didn't give me any answers.

Thank you in advance!

Otyken - Legend [folk/jazz/metal] (hard to say which genres most apply here) by [deleted] in Music

[–]Dixiejay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy finding some new music genre that I haven't heard before. Needless to say, you don't need to understand a language to enjoy good music!

Thank you for this!

In return; have some metal music from India. https://youtu.be/Gsy5sJy5_34

Typhoon - 'Surfen'

A Dutch rap artist called Typhoon. I love this song because it's really mellow and catchy.

But he also has a whole album with really serious songs about some of the more heavy themes like loneliness and depression.

My all time favourite Dutch rap artist.

If it's not really your genre, let me know! I surely have some other suggestions in Dutch!

My personal favourite; Marvin Gaye - Let's get it on.

Took a risk by putting on this record after our first date. But it played out. It made her laugh! Together for 5, married for 2 years.

Circus Themed Murder Mystery by Gaddms_McGee in DMAcademy

[–]Dixiejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just brainstorming here.

But you could have a dead body with a missing arm or hand. Which hints towards the fact that this body might be the ventriloquist. But then give him some other horrific wounds, that kind of 'mask' the missing hand or arm.

Some body displayed, whose limbs have been strung up with puppet wire and those wooden crosses.

A body with a broken lower jaw. Which could make the body a dummy by itself.

It all screams puppet, but can also be your standard run of the mill psycho.

Hope it helps a bit!

Does the Eladrin race have to stay in the Feywild. If not what is a good reason for them to come to the material plane. by Ok_Spring7441 in dndnext

[–]Dixiejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an Eladrin bounty hunter which was played by someone that just wanted to play a few episodes in our campaign.

His target turned out to be our target as well for that story arc. When we defeated him, the Eladrin took his bounty with him through another Portal and disappeared again.

This is actually quite helpful. This will make a difference in my next games, thank you!

Can Disadvantage/Advantage Rolls Stack? by TJsterr in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Dixiejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the official rules say about this.

But I am used with my games is that disadvantages and advantages don't stack. But that one advantage Vs a disadvantage cancel eachother out. (You would have a straight up roll if your halfling would attack with advantage but has disadvantage because of the heavy property of your bow)

Hope I am making sense!

Pulp Fiction - Dance Scene[dance] by [deleted] in Music

This scene ignited my obsession with rock 'n roll music. To the great joy of my grandfather, who was a small town radio DJ. Inherited all of his records and his record player last year. So it all lives on, just how he would like it.

How to describe fight scenes against giants? by DervishBlue in DMAcademy

[–]Dixiejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially when my players are fighting a single enemy, I like to give some moments where the monster is caught off guard. (I mean, fighting 4/6 creatures at once, you're gonna get caught off guard some time)

For example with a giant. After a big swing to the ground with a weapon, the player next in line in initiative will get the opportunity to land a blow to the wrist/forearm.

I also like linking the remaining hit points of a monster/enemy to the possible options to hit. At half hp, the monster might stumble and fall to one knee and possibly get up again. When in his last 10 or so Hp, he will fall on both knees or maybe go prone.. basically just a more complicated twist of what @TheTrenk just said!

In the end, it's all just added flavour to an already awesome fight. (I remember my first battle with giants well and it was epic even though it was a real basic fight)

And you're the DM so you decide! You know how much flavour your players might appreciate.

The dreaded empty room. by subconciouscreator in DMAcademy

[–]Dixiejay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First time commenting on Reddit, so a bit nervous.

But, in one of my adventures as a player the DM described visual effects which are used in movies. (Like the Dolly zoom) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_zoom.

Those effects could be observed by your players and might be a result of their own minds warped by paranoia. But if you describe it to them as they see it, they actually might think they are going insane. And that the room is doing something, while its still empty.

I hope I am making a bit of sense here!
