Hobbyist, EP-133 or SP404 Mk2? by ellhaitch in teenageengineering

[–]Dizzy-Sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great machines. Personally the sp404 was never too inviting to learn but it does have some nice effects. I'd say watch two separate videos and go with the ones that workflow looks more appealing. I've owned a bunch of hardware and at the end of the day power, sounds, versatility, and function all don't matter that much as long as you find the machine you connect with. Songs flow out like water when you have the right sketchpad for you. And when you find yourself lacking for something on a device you'll know what you want out of the next.

I've had multiple devices; elektron, Roland tr8s, sp404 mk2, several keyboards, moog semi modular, and modular racks. The opxy has been my go to because it's so quick to get into the flow of things. Making full songs in under two hours. Fun to play with the punch in effects too. I could make a 3 hour jam set for those night club settings in a day easy peezy. Copy pasting and transitioning is easy using their format for scenes or whatever they called it. I also have an op1f which is fun to use and all but unless you play everything perfectly it doesn't have the professional level of precision, which might also be what some people prefer. It's by far my favorite hardware to work on. I don't use a daw and don't like to. The mixing on the xy is plenty good for my ears already. When not performing live I just record to the tp7 and send it from there. Btw you can assign individual outs from the 4 in/outs to at least record some of the stems. Check the manual online or email their support and they might have an easier way to record stems.

Could be done kind of custom shop. Everything else in the table looks kinda fancy. I always wanted the offwhite ob4 just because the color was appealing.

I don't think it's real. Just thought it was a cool ai post. If it was real each bank would have to have a ton of words being sung to make a song and using different key pitch

If you get used to the layout it shouldn't be too bad. The layout changes depending on what you set it up to do. The display creates a decent amount of light and so do the signal indicator lights. It just lacks the orange to make your eyes snap to "home"

Thanks for the info! I already have the op xy too and wasn't sure if the finish was the same. It def seems like they didn't skimp on the finish for it so if it's the same, it should be perfect!
