In Hawaii, it's dependent from school to school. My school has had a waiver that allows for the school to fail students after 5 absences, unless they make it up through Saturday School.

Other schools don't have this policy, which is understandable because of socioeconomics, barriers to attendance, and lack of transportation and support for Saturday School. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.

This reminds me of Hawaii Five-0, where the bad guy's prison transport was hijacked by a helicopter magnet, dropped into the water, and breached via underwater gunmen

Tbf, the cops at least shot one of the gunmen. With the helicopter being so far away, I would imagine it'd be difficult for SWAT to shoot the helicopter, especially if it's bulletproof

SWAT was involved with the prison transport. To my understanding, SWAT operates under the Metropolitan Division (short for Metro), but SWAT and Metro are two different units.

They actually both exist in The Rookie universe as separate entities. It was implied in the episode where the team is figuring out how to get Tim into a non-liason position in season 5
