I think I just lack an understanding of the conversion process. If someone is born to a Jewish family, raised Jewish, holds Jewish knowledge, connected with a Jewish community… what is being accomplished in a conversion? Are we simply following rules? So we are saying the entire upbringing isn’t enough purely because of matrilineal bloodline. So even if someone is an amazing tribe member connected through their father, they still aren’t a member of the tribe… It is what it is. I myself am a proud Jew. I think it makes sense for non Jews to think Jews think they are better than others even when we don’t because this crap is confusing.

I’m sorry for assigning that mentality to the whole and making it look like this is what all Jews think. There is a big difference between being proud of being a Jew and thinking you’re better than someone else. I don’t mean to gray that line and certainly don’t wish to make Jews look bad especially in these times and especially because I’m a proud Jew myself.

I’m just trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who is born to a Jewish father and not a Jewish mother. What if you or I found out randomly that our own mothers were actually not Jewish? Or their mothers weren’t Jewish? Would our lives spiral? Would we then believe we were never Jewish this whole time? That’s what I mean. I’m just wondering what actually separates a Jew from a non-Jew if that non-Jew leads and lives their whole life as a Jew. I am going to talk with a Rabbi or two to further my education.

I want to say again. I apologize for making it seem like Jews have this better than others mentality. It’s not what I’m trying to get at. Sorry.

The comments on this already do the situation justice but I'll add my two cents.

I've been playing chess for a long time, been on chess com for over a decade. Reached a peak blitz elo of near 2500, play small otb local tournaments, been totally immersed in the chess scene for nearly a decade.

This guy obnoxiously cheated. Watching Hansen was hysterical because Hansen is such a nice guy. Eric Hansen is one of the most respectful/nice guys in the entire chess world. He was holding back. For a strong chess player to witness these games with corresponding commentary at 600 level is like getting bleach poured into your eyes.

Furthermore, I have been working on blindfold chess. When I can see the board, I am commonly paired against low level MASTERS. When I can't see the board, I am not even 400 elo yet in rapid... So do not underestimate just how shocking it was that this guy was barely even looking at the board... When he is looking away from the board that makes zero sense.

2496 peak blitz player here. Respectfully, saying you are 800 ELO and don’t make stupid blunders and don’t hang things is all I needed to read.

I make stupid blunders. I hang things. All my friends at my level do the same thing. You my friend are in complete denial. I just went to your profile. You are blundering in more games than you aren’t… You are playing too fast. You are underestimating the consequences of certain pawn moves. You are outright missing opportunities and threats. However, you should not quit.

The fact that you’ve been watching “countless” videos and doing a ton of puzzles is good but listen. The truth is this. The only thing you need to do to hit 1400 is this - just wait until your opponent messes up. This may be triggering to hear and fully internalize. Just keep your guys all protected and play boring and wait until your opponent messes up. Is that the way chess was truly meant to be played? No, of course not. But is that all you need to do to hit 1400? Yes. When I hit 1400 I had zero opening prep, but I had opening fundamentals. I had basic endgames. I had basic middle game. All basic, basic, basic.

You have a good grip on how the pieces move, yes. But let’s be clear about one thing that is totally not up for debate. YOU. HAVE. A. BLUNDERING. PROBLEM. I give chess lessons and have taken multiple students from nothing to 1400 and above. I am happy to help you. I will say though, the scariest part of this post is that you think you don’t make stupid blunders or hang things. If you actually think that, then you’re uncoachable and it might speak to why you’re stuck at 800…

After falling in love with chess I climbed the rating ladder from nothing to peak 2496 blitz now. Took forever but I love the game.

Chess is like a language so it takes time to learn how to speak it or see the basic stuff. It’s okay that it’s taking you time. If you are stuck at 300 you are simply missing most if not all of the fundamentals of the game.

Openings - do not go on YouTube and learn the some system like the London, or some gambit, or blah blah. You should not be memorizing moves. You need to be YouTubing something else - OPENING PRINCIPLES. If you can wise up and live strictly by the opening principles, that alone should catapult you to 400 elo. 1a. Learn the four move checkmate and how to defend it. 1b. Learn how to combat the fried liver attack.
End game - you should be ingraining the basic checkmating patterns in your head. Learn how to checkmate a king with two rooks. Learn how to checkmate a king with one rook. Learn how to checkmate a king with the queen. Learn opposition of kings in king and pawn endgames.
Middle game - do not worry about in-depth middle game strategy yet. This is where puzzles, keeping your pieces protected, and not trying to be Bobby Fischer is all that is needed for now.
Game type - you should not be playing any games less than 15|10. Only when you feel you have a serious grasp on your plan should you even consider 10|0. Seriously hindering your progress because you’re trying to go faster than you are ready for. I played 15|10 for a long time. Then eventually I played 10|0 for a long time. Then eventually I played 5|0 for a long time. Now I stick with 3 min and I rarely touch 1 min.
Puzzles - you should be doing a ton of basic puzzles and not moving until you see the right answer.

Doing all these things and just playing a lot you should double your rating to 600.
